Intro:
One of the first fights in the newly formed Cougar division takes places between Lucy Liu and the debuting Ming Na-wen.
Lucy is 50 years old; she stands 5'3, holding a record of 81 wins, 54 coming by way of knockout, with 39 defeats, she is a former seven time FCBA flyweight champion, a former two time FCBA bantamweight champion, while also a Tractorpull Hall of Famer.
Ming is 55 years old; she is 5'4, this is her debut, with the Macau born actress most famous for roles in films like Street Fighter and now the TV show Agents of Shield.
Both fighters were interviewed at a boxing gym, sitting face to face in a ring wearing dresses, a white dress for Lucy, black for Ming, neither looking too pleased to see each other.
It is Lucy asked about why she got back into the ring, smiling as she answers "I honestly missed getting into the ring but I know I will never be able to compete with these youngster, this division will allow me a fighting chance and maybe settle some old scores"
When Ming is asked why she is making her debut now, she smirks as she stares at Lucy, saying in a stern tone "it is well known that at the height of her powers here that Lucy kept any other Asian fighter down"
That makes Lucy chuckle, she replies "I have heard this so mainly times, that I supposedly kept women like you Ming down, whether it be Hollywood or in the ring, the fact is you were a nobody till only recently"
"I am not talking about my acting career Lucy" says Ming as she sits forwards on her stool, pointing at Lucy as her temper looks to be rising.
"We both know if we were allowed to fight years ago I'd have kicked your ass, there's a reason why the girls on my show asked me for advice when they first started in their careers" adds Ming as she stands up.
Lucy matches her as the two come nose to nose, Lucy telling her rival "oh I wish you had tried years ago, I'd have loved to have seen what excuse you came out with after I beat you" leading to shoving, forcing the interviewer to hold both back.
Both leave the ring after exchanging threats on what they will do when that bell rings, one last intense state before they step out of the ring.
Fight night; out comes Lucy with a smile on her face, her coach follows her down the ramp, looking excited as she jogs.
She is wearing a white sports bra, white trunks with "Legend" in black letters on her waistband, white shoes and black gloves, her hair is up in a ponytail.
Getting into the ring; Lucy poses at the center of the ring with her arms in the air, smiling as the crowd chant her name, she then heads to her corner to warm up.
Ming now heads out with her coaching team behind her, she looks intense as she marches down the aisle towards the ring.
She is wearing a black sports bra with red trim, matching trunks and shoes, red gloves, while her hair is also tied back into a ponytail.
Climbing into the ring; Ming heads straight over to her corner, thudding her gloves together before she shadow boxes to warm up.
When the fighters come to the centre of the ring, with both intensely staring as they go nose to nose, the referee needing to push them apart.
They thud their gloves together before they return back to their corners, ready to start 10 rounds of Cougar action.
Round 1:
Out come the fighters to the center of the ring, while neither has the hand speed of yesteryear, they are landing pinpoint jabs as they circle around each other.
Lucy shows off her experience to slip a jab to land a left cross to the cheek of Ming, two body shots follow before she takes a right across her face that makes her retreat into space.
It is becoming clear that Lucy is landing the cleaner punches as they trade more leather, the smaller fighter dips down more to dodge before countering.
But Na-Wen is able to adjust as the round goes on, landing a double jab to the top of her opponent's head, then landing a left hook as Liu steps in closer.
As the ten second warning sounds, the two fighters step in close to let their hands go, grunting with effort as the crowd roars both women on till the bell rings to end the round.
Lucy gives her fans a quick blown kiss before she sits down, clearly confident tonight will be another win on her record.
Round 2:
As they start off trading at the center of the ring again, Ming steps in closer with a double jab between the gloves of her rival, just missing with an uppercut that looked to have real power behind it as Lucy moves back out the way.
Maybe Lucy let herself get over confident as Ming is taking the fight to her, a right snaps the head back of Liu as she finds herself on the outside of the ring.
Ming controls the pace this round; keeping Lucy on the move on the outside, while she targets the face of Lucy with straight shots, most are blocked though.
Managing to dodge a left cross; Lucy counters with a right to the body, then an overhand left lands on the cheek of the Shield star, allowing Lucy to escape off the ropes.
But Lucy doesn't get much space as Ming keeps coming on the attack, forcing Lucy into heated exchanges, with both separating for a moment and taunting the other to bring it.
Lucy goes to step in with a right to the body, she gets caught by a left across the top of her head though as Ming steps to the side, a right smacks Lucy on her face to knock her back a step.
The round comes to an end with Lucy behind her guard, Ming turns on her heels to return to her corner looking deadly serious, something Lucy is told she needs to be by her coach.
Round 3:
It's Ming who starts off the faster of the two, landing a double jab to her opponent's face, she lands a right hook that sends Lucy onto her heels.
Covering up more tightly; Lucy finds herself having to move side to side near the ropes as she tries not to get pinned to them, while Ming is hunting her down.
A right to the body of Lucy opens her up, they trade hard leather as Lucy tries to take the fight back to Ming, ending up taking an uppercut that knocks her head back.
Lucy covers up again as Ming knocks her onto the ropes, going to work on Liu's body, Na-Wen is looking to break down her rival, her fans yelling support as Lucy pulls her into a clinch.
After they are separated; Ming tries to keep the pressure on Lucy, missing though with a straight as Lucy ducks down to counter with two left hooks to the ribs, making Ming hiss out.
The round comes to a close with both fighters again going head to head in a fiery exchange to the bell, eyes burning holes through their rival as they pass by to their corners, red marks are appearing on their porcelain looking skin.
Round 4:
Both circle around each other to start, trading more combinations as they scowl at each other, Lucy dips her head down to come inside to land three body shots, before being shoved back and hit with two punches into her face.
Things are getting more heated between the two as they come inside, Lucy using her left shoulder to bump back Ming, landing a right across her face.
As Lucy is driving back her rival with body shots, she has her opponent behind her guard, grunting out with each shot, with Ming needing to nudge her back to get away from the ropes.
Keeping the pressure on though; Lucy slips a straight to land an overhand left to the side of Ming's head, followed by a straight into her nose.
Blood starts trickling from the nose of Na-Wen, who comes firing back after landing a left across the face of Liu, they nearly clash heads as they work in tight.
The bell rings with Ming wiping blood from her nose, they return to their corners looking angry that neither can seem to grab control of this fight, getting cleaned down as their coaches tell them to step it up or find themselves on the losing end of things.
Round 5:
Lucy is dipping down to drill in body shots as she moves side to side, looking to annoy Ming as the older fighter swings more hooks.
Settling down; Ming lands a jab to the top of Lucy's head, then a right hook turns the head of the hall of famer, with Ming pushing Lucy backwards.
Knocking Lucy along the ropes; Ming opens up a cut under the left eye of the Elementary star, with Lucy pulling Ming into a clinch, the two fighters grappling on the ropes as the referee moves in to pry them apart.
After being separated; Lucy steps in with a right to the face of Ming, more blood flows from her nose as it's Ming now finding herself forced into a corner.
They let their hands go in the final seconds of the round, blood and sweat getting knocked into the air as the crowd roar them both on till the bell rings.
Returning to their corners; they both need cleaning up from their coaches, Lucy getting her cut patched up as Ming gets her nose worked on, they wince while being worked on.
Round 6:
Ming starts off strong as she jabs towards the cut on Lucy's face, stepping forwards while trying to really hurt the most defensive Liu.
Ducking a straight; Lucy comes up with a uppercut that snaps Ming's head back, an overhand left follows to wobble the legs of the older fighter.
Lucy piles on the pressure as Ming is forced onto the ropes, a straight lands on the nose of Na-Wen to open her guard up, with a flurry of punches snapping the head back of Ming, A RIGHT HOOK SENDS MING DOWN TO THE CANVAS ON HER SIDE!
Raising her fists in the air; Lucy turns to the neutral corner as the count begins, 1...2...3...4.. Ming shakes her head as she moves to all fours, 5...6...7.. She leans on the middle rope with her back, 8...9... Trying to get up, Ming slips and falls back on her backside, 10 ending up counted out!
Winner Lucy Liu KO Round 6
After:
That's the first win that Lucy will be hoping will lead to another title, she flexes her arm as she smirks at Ming, yelling "I told you!" Before jogging back to her corner.
While Ming has to be helped to her feet, she mouths "damn it" as she heads back to her corner, sitting on her stool with an angry look on her face.
Both women having to be cleaned up as they sit staring across the ring at each other, Lucy smirking as she sees the disappointed look on the face of her rival.
They come to the center of the ring; Lucy gets her hand raised as Ming shakes her head, with Ming leaving as Lucy tells her "anytime you want a rematch, just say" hands out at her side looking ready to go now.
Ming heads up to the back with her coach beside her, she doesn't look put off by this experience as she talks about getting another fight before maybe taking another crack at Lucy.
Who inside the ring is mounting each corner, raising her arms in the air as the crowd chant her name, Lucy taking all the love in with a smile etched across her beautiful face.
When she leaves the ring; Lucy waves across her waist saying "I will be the first champion" smiling as she turns to head up the aisle, her coach praising her as they discuss the comeback run.
