TESS VALMORE

The July was a huge 41 bout card plus two retro bouts. The card was so big that some expected fights had to be moved to the next PPV or an event later in the month.

All four title were up for grabs. Kristen Stewart repeated her previous victory over Miley Cyrus to retain the Flyweight title. Demi Lovato defended her title against Demi Rose Mawby, who had had only three conventional bouts. You have to wonder. i’ve seen Mawby before, but I have no idea who she is. Is having a big butt her only talent? Taylor Swift surprised me in beating Yvonne Strahovski. Quite frankly, I was hoping Yvonne would win as she is one of my favorites. Righetti defended her title against Regan in a bout that was for the best of seven, as well as the title. The fight was better than I expected, but Regan appears to be well past her prime even in the shallow welter division.

In the welter division there were only two bouts other than the title fight, neither of any importance unless you call Rhoda’s win over Garnn, who was in her debut, important.

There were three lightweight fights that will make changes in the rankings. Anillela Sagra defeated Missy Peregrym which should boost Sagra’s ranking while putting Peregrym’s “comeback” on hold. Amanda Cerny upset Ambrosio that will drop Ambrosio’s standing and increasing Cerny’s but probably not enough to get into the top ten. Finally, Didonato took the biggest step towards the top ten by beating Palicki

The bantams featured several fights of importance in the standings. Brie Larson should move up on her win over Holt. Scodelario’s win over Chopra should put her in the top five and in position for a title bout. Kosarin lost to Jenner, but Jenner is a top lightweight and the result shouldn’t effect the standings. Dobrev should retain her ranking with her win over Mitchell. Lilly’s win should have no effect since it was a mismatch.

The flyweights had more top ten members in action that any other weight division. None had a result that should change the rankings. Vanessa Hudgens celebrated her entry into the Hall Of Fame with a win over Evigan. Cheryl Cole suffered a minor upset at the hands of Camila Mendes The much hyped Madison Beer won in a tryout. I must say Tisdale is not much of a tryout. The question as the end of the card as far as flyweights are concerned, is will Stewart continue to duck Vanessa Hudgens?

I could help but notice that this card was a disaster for Pretty Little Punchers as they were involved in four bouts and lost them all.

Hopefully the bouts that didn’t make the card should be featured on a week night card, so those fighters don’t lose the opportunity to fight on the next PPV. I realize this will require extra work, but I have no qualms about extra work as long as I don’t have to do it.

Why, if the card is so big all the fights requested can’t make it, are we having retro bouts?

There was an unexpected debut in this card appearing in the cougar bout. That brings the number of debuts for the year to 50.
