Before: former beach queens face off in the big leagues—real heart-warming, small-celebs-make-good type story here—you can smell the surf and sand in the air at prefight.
“You know, there was always talk on the beach circuit of a “Super Bowl of the Beach’ between Nikki and myself,” recollects Jenny, but it never really made economic sense. I fought a lot of the Australians when I was on ‘Lost World’ and I feel I know Nikki’s game inside and out. I love the fact that she’s done so well and I just wanted to congratulate her—I know her road’s been every bit as tough as my own.”
Visser backed up on her side by a glaring Anja Coleby—no love lost between Coleby and O’Dell. Who’s savage brawls are legend Down Under. “Jenny THINKS she knows my game,” says bright-eyed Nikki at the podium, “but I’ve sparred hard rounds with Anja and I KNOW I’ve got O’Dell clocked. We’ve got O’Dell clocked. We’ve got a lot of unanswered questions between us that are finally going to get resolved, and I can’t wait t lift her belts!” Tension arising as COLEBY, not Visser, frequently gets in O’Dell’s face and exchanges words—Nikki playing it smart letting Anja bait the fiery Jenny in the weeks leading up. Punching pink bikini for Jenny, short ponytail—royal blue bikini for Nik, white petal pattern around the cleavage.
During R1,2: Jenny taking charge—jabbing out of a tight crouch, working her way in close with swinging right hands to the body. Then beating Nikki up to the ribs and tummy. Visser head-to-head, laying in with Jenny but really soaking it up—Nikki shutting down, lolling on the ropes, just letting O’Dell get of. O’Dell muscular, crisp--reaching in to push at Nikki’s biceps, putting hooks and uppercuts together ,pounding the waist then working up-torso. No secret behind Jenny’s intention: beat that body, steal those legs and make Visser fight a tough-slogging ground war.
R3: Nikki spreads Jenny out of the jab, stepping right, loosening up and extending better on punches. Nice carving right hands from Vik—silky smooth as she twists her torso and pulls ‘em through: Jenny’s chin standing up firmly to stroke as Visser headhunts for points in the third.
R4: Nikki steppin’ laterally, keeping the jab on Jenny, then beating O’Dell to punches as Jen walks in. Visser getting off in brisk three punch sequences, then stepping away—ratatat stuff keeping O’Dell covered up if not doing much damage. Nik also employing her stabbing tummy jab to good effect. Visser attempting to drain Jenny’s tanlk as well, doesn’t want O’Dell muscling up down the stretch.
R5: Jenny cutting off the ring, jabbing hard to Visser’s chest and tummy—Nikki’s back hitting ropes/covering up earmuff. Big banging O’Dell round—Jenny hammering her foe relentlessly along the ropes—she’s shadowing Nik as she slides to the side, pinning her down with stiff stick, then banging her hefty rights and lefts. Flanks take a tanning, jugs a-clubbing, ribs and tummy all dug up.—Jenny constantly at Nikki with aggressive hound-and-pound, Visser’s mouth hanging open, legs stomping jiggly, buttocks wobbling: Jenny rings ‘er up bell to bell, stomps back up upbeat to her corner eager to continue. BSE corner likes what it sees: You’re beating her UP, Jen--just stick with the program” HER butt in the ropes, you beating her bod and arms. She’s wearing down Jenny—just keep scrubbin’!”
R6: Jenny walking Nikki down—Visser using the ring, finding Jenny the jab and landing some serious right hands on advancing O’Dell chin. Nikki nice and relaxed, stepping to spots, walking Jenny in, then slicing that clean right to chin—she’s got O’Dell hurt in the middle minute, stooping forward paralyzed behind her mitts. Lost opportunity—Visser disengages, steps around her jab rather than really taking it to O’Dell—Jenny able to shake off the hurt, regroup in the final minute.
R7: Jenny’s swinging right hand In Visser’s ribs the dominant punch of the round—Nikki grimacing, shying away after contact. Nikki’s flat footed now—reaching in under O’Dell’s arms and bogging down rather than looking to counter-punch—Jenny slowly imposing her will. Jenny coming forward behind a smart, scolding jab, bashing the body, mauling and bumping ruff inside—not pretty, by she’s bullying Visser at the ropes by the bell.
R8: Jenny pouring it on—dishing out a hard, non-stop drubbing along the ropes as Visser wilts to her right. Nikki covered up under fire, not answering back—Jenny’s fists are bouncing off shoulders, skull and ribs with increasing brazen ferocity. Middle minute classic JOD: pushing into Visser to stack her, heave-ho punching amidships, then straightening to catch Nikki uppercuts—poor Visser bludgeoned takes a veteran knee to catch her breath, Shabby 8, Nik—Jenny batting her gloves together as she marches in from the neutral corner to clean up strong to the break. Thick spanking shellack dished put champion to challenger—Visser sullen, lumping up, concerned during the break.
R9: Jenny wants more Nikki: Nikki doesn’t look too anxious to mix it up. O’Dell uptempoing to chase Visser down, doing a nice job with mobile Aussie, stapling the jab to her,
directing her to the ropes, then piling in rugged. Jenny warned for casual head-bumping, elbow-nudging, shoulder-shoving—she’s being very rough and physical with Visser. Nonstop cudgeling against Nikki’s chest, biceps and shoulders—thick, tucking lefts and rights fitting in snug behind the elbows steadily wearing Nikki out. Visser open-mouthed, bleak—she’s clinching for ref’s breaks: Jenny pushed back, then wading on in, eager for the work. Bell: Jenny punctuates her dominance with a fat right hand flat to paunch—Visser showing her frustration, whines to the ref rather than getting working-woman’s justice on her own.
R10: Jenny up off her stool hard-eyed, batting gloves together—Visser worn away, no dance left in those once-proud legs. Nikki tagging Jenny a lead right hand on then hoisting a thick left square to jug as if to say “What’s it going to take to back you up?” Jenny walking through everything, club-clouting back right/left to the jaw—elbows up as she jams ‘em in short. Visser beaten back to ropes with a discouraged look—she’s showing supple left and right uppercuts, bending side to side, looking for lightning in a bottle. O’Dell pressure steadily decisive—relentless beating of Nikki’s arms and chest shutting Aussie down—Visser covers up shabby down the stretch, All Jenny, looming over top a crouched Nikki, pounding lefts to hips across the back—dipping right to tuck the right hand up underneath. Visser in a bad way, Coleby shrieking at her “30 SECONDS!...25 SECONDS!...HANG ON NIKKI!—20 SECOBDS!...” Bell: Jenny back straight, helping herself to Aussie jug with short-shrugging lefts and rights—ref bodies hungry champ off as Visser slumps exhausted in the ropes. UD10 wide for the winner and STILL champ—Jenny O’Dell.
After: Badly battered Visser helped to her corner by Anja—Nikki showing real heart in not succumbing to O’Dell’s final-round lambasting. Jenny fresh ‘n sweaty, glorying in decisive victory: she’s settling in nicely atop the charts at 130.
“You know—Nikki LOVES her legs—she pampers them, she dotes on them—going after them was the only key to victory for me tonight. We worked so hard on closing and banging the body for this fight to take away her legs—I wanted to be fighting off Nikki’s chest every second of the bout and I knew I’d use her up if I did that. She’s not typical beach—she’s always had more FCBA friendly style—I think I really got into her head with beach style roughhouse and I bullied her a bit tonight, made her quit up here (taps her temple with a knowing finger).” So what’s next for the ever-more-dominant champ? “You know Aristide has done a great job moving me—whomever we get, I’m sure it will be a great fight for the fans. I have no druthers: the line forms on the right, babe!”
