Lucy Hale vs. Lily Collins

BEFORE:

Collins on quite the run and certainly in the mix for a title shot, while Hale, a former champion, has been up and down the past couple of years, mostly down. But, Lucy's not at all intimidated by Lily. "She's good," Hale admits. "Very good. But, I'm better, and I'll prove it."

Lily, meanwhile, not exactly showing her rival a ton of respect. "This girl is just a stay busy while I wait for my chance at the belts. And, when I get it, they're GOING around my waist. Count on it."

ROUND ONE:

Lily, despite the height and reach advantage, wants to do what she likes to do, pressure. She's forward immediately, looking to bang with the shorter girl and BOOM! A right hook from Hale and Collins in HURT! Lily stumbling, almost going down and Lucy all in immediately, pummeling her rival back into the ropes and giving her a thorough going over. Collins keeping the guard high despite Hale doing some work on her ribs and midsection. She's trying to ride out Hurricane Lucy as the former champion throws everything in the arsenal at her. Hale piling up both points and hurt, but can't seem to find the 'off' switch despite her best efforts. Final seconds see Hale land two big shots, but Collins ships the shell and stays afloat to the bell. When it rings, Hale has the first wide and leads 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

Lucy back to work. Collins still a little unsteady and Hale taking full advantage. She's working body, head, body, backing the taller girl up, scoring and piling up hurt. Collins engaging in a fighting retreat, but, she's still retreating. Mid-round things change. Lily able to stabilize her front, begin firing back. Things hang on an edge for a bit, then Collins begins getting the better of things. She's now tossing Lucy on to the defensive, piling up points of her own. By the closing stages of the round, Lily's in command, but she still hasn't quite made up the stagger. Hale's early advantage is holding up, barely, and, when the bell rings, it still is. It's Lucy claiming the points by about as slim a margin as possible and extending her lead to 20-18, but Collins has found something.

ROUND THREE:

And, she's using it. Lily's got the geometry about perfect now. She's landing hard left jabs to the head, using those to set up follow on rights and build combinations. Hale thrown onto the back foot and can't seem to get off it. Collins is all about pressure, pressure, pressure. Hale unable to handle it at the moment. Result is she's backed up again and again and eventually finds herself on the ropes, where Lily goes to town. Brit getting off ALL kinds of lusty as the American takes a ton of punishment to both head and body. Lucy game, shipping the shell, firing back when she can, but it's mostly one-shot stuff, while Lily's putting punches together in a big way. By the time the bell rings, Hale's looking a bit scuffed and Collins has taken the points wide to cut Hale's lead to 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Lily keeps coming. It's not broken, and the Brit isn't going to fix it. Instead, she keeps up the steady pressure, continues to back up Hale. Lucy trying to get her feet set, fire back, but not having any success doing it. Eventually, though, she manages to start holding canvas. And, when she does. Hammer. And. Tongs. Ladies having at it in the middle of the ring. Hale DETERMINED not to allow Lily to continue her dominance, while Collins is determined to do exactly that. Result is heavy fire being exchanged for well over a minute. Until Collins is forced backward. Hale steps to, works some body. Lily ties her up. Lucy shoves off. Works some more body, then backs Collins up with some hard right hands. All of a sudden, Hale is in charge, and she stays that way to the bell. But Collins' early lead holds up, and she's able to take the points close to even things at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Hale stepping to Lily. Collins giving ground again. Until. BOOM! Nasty right from Lily and Hale is HURT! Lucy stumbling backward and Lily DROPPING HER WITH A STRAIGHT RIGHT! Collins raising the hands in celebration as she heads to a neutral corner. Hale down on her back, shaking the head back and forth as the referee counts down at her. American sits up at seven and manages to make it to her feet at nine. Referee gives her the mandatory then waives on Lily. Collins all OVER a gobsmacked Hale, driving her against the ropes and then abusing her to both head and body. She's landing almost at will, looking back at the ref as if to ask when he's going to stop this thing, but Lucy hanging on, doing enough to keep him at bay. When the bell finally rings, Hale looks a wreck, but she's still standing. Collins, meanwhile, leads 48-46.

ROUND SIX:

Collins POURING fire at Hale. Lucy in full retreat, firing back here and there, trying to slow the Brit down, but having little success doing it. Instead, Collins piles up the hurt, looking for the shot that will end it. BOOM! Straight right hand...LUCY! Hale with a perfectly placed counter and now COLLINS is hurt! Brit all wobbly-butt as Lucy shifts to the offensive. Hale still muzzy herself, so the damage she's doing is somewhat limited, but she IS doing it, and piling up points as well. She makes up the early stagger and pulls into the lead by late in the round. But, she's not able to clean up or pin the Brit to the ropes, which is more a result of her own legs still being wobbly than of anything Lily's able to do. At the bell, Hale's taken it close and cut Collins' lead to 57-56.

ROUND SEVEN:

Hale looking to finish. Collins giving ground, legs still not back. American stepping to, ripping shot to the body, then going to the head looking for the 'off' switch. Brit trying to slow Hale down with jabs and clinches, but not much of it is effective. Instead, Lucy able to do what she wants, punish Lily, to both head and body. BOOM! Right hook, Hale! Collins stumbles...and is DROPPED by a straight right hand! Hale raising the arms in triumph as Collins lies sputtering on her back. Lucy to a neutral corner. Ref counts down on Lily. Collins to her belly at five. To hands and knees at six. Pushes up at seven only to reel to her left and collapse back to the canvas! It's OVER! Collins can't beat the count and it's OVER! And your winner by KO7 is Lucy Hale!

AFTER:

"Lily made a mistake," says a smiling Lucy. "Just not the one you think. Her mistake wasn't taking me lightly. Her mistake was getting in the ring with me at ALL. And, I'll be RIGHT here if she ever wants to make THAT mistake again."
