Before:

This bout features two prominent bantamweights looking to get themselves into the title picture. Kat Dennings is the more experienced fighter with over three times as many fights as her opponent Brie Larson. While Larson has remained one of the Fates fighters flying under the radar since she was signed at the same time as her blonde stablemate and current queen of the ice hotel as well as current lightweight champion, Taylor Swift, she has nevertheless made some statement wins and looks to assert herself as a top ten bantamweight.

The two do not have much to say to the press before their match. Larson notes that since 2016, Dennings has a record of 23-2 with the two losses coming to bantamweight champions. Kat compliments Brie for having a stellar year so far, and that she is looking forward to when they meet in the ring.

Come match time, Dennings dons a red top and white trunks, the gloves white with red trim. Larson has gone for a yellow sports bra and pink trunks, her gloves matching her top. The two women touch gloves and the ref calls for the bell to start the ten rounds.

Round 1:

Both ladies get out of their corners and probe their opponents, but both women and their respective staffs have done their scouting. Larson wary of getting too close to Dennings and letting the brunette land her powerful punches as one of the heavy hitters in the bantamweight division. Dennings meanwhile is looking to stop Larson from pushing the pace and using her extra reach. The first minute is fairly even with both women going slowly and trading any blows back on their opponent. But at the start of the second minute, Kat alters her rhythm and dekes Brie and the blonde actress falls for everything. Larson’s entire left side is exposed and Dennings connects with an absolute haymaker of a right to Brie’s jaw and Larson’s eyes get wide as she realizes her mistake. Dennings swings her left in but Larson somehow gets her guard up to block the blow and Brie is still regrouping after that punch. The two women start to play a cat and mouse game with Kat going after Brie and the blonde actress doing all she can to ward off Dennings until the bell mercifully ends the round and unsurprisingly, the brunette takes the opening frame on points, wide.

Round 2:

Brie gets a talking to between rounds and comes out the same as the first round, cautious, while Dennings is more than content with the slower pace to look for big punches. Brie is better able to fend off Kat’s strikes than the previous round and Larson nails Dennings with two solid straights in response to her brunette opponent’s offense. The more experienced actress isn’t afraid of her blonde opponent and steps forwards, trading blows with her opponent and now the tempo notches up as Larson and Dennings trade punches, but neither woman is able to cleanly land anything substantial on her opponent. Kat starts to take back the momentum in the second minute, getting Brie to take more hits than she dishes out, but Larson quickly figures out Dennings and starts using her reach to her advantage come the final minute. It’s a close round, but the judges say that Brie came away with the round on points, close.

Round 3:

The actresses settle down as the third round begins and each woman looks to get her respective style in control of the fight. Dennings the first to strike, coming up with a big left hook that barely clips Larson in the nose. Larson sticks Dennings back with a right as the brunette comes back with a bodyshot, and Larson backs off before Dennings can start working some powerful punches. Kat follows her blonde opponent around the ring and instantly gets a left straight to the face and Brie keeps Kat at a distance where the brunette can’t respond. The blonde actress pops a right straight into the brunette’s chin and Dennings can’t close the gap to strike Larson back. Brie carefully measuring her distance as she bullies Kat around the ring until the bell, and while she wasn’t landing clean shots every other punch, she nevertheless made solid enough contact to win the round on points, wide.

Round 4:

The taller Larson gets out of her corner confidently and starts swinging at the shorter Dennings, forcing Kat backwards, even if her punches aren’t landing. The brunette actress keeps her distance, feinting and trying to get her blonde counterpart to overcommit. Brie keeping everything tight and closes the distance to up the tempo and she gets whacked with a right by Dennings. Larson fighting back, blonde girl striking out at Dennings, but Kat’s connects with an absolute haymaker to Larson’s chin and Brie realizes that she can’t go blow for blow with Dennings in a slugfest. Brie backs out of Kat’s range and warily keeps her guard up as Dennings begins to look for openings. Dennings lets Larson keep her distance, but closing the distance subtly until Dennings darts in and lands a one-two combo, the first punch glancing Larson’s ear but the second nailing her square in the nose and Brie get knocked into the ropes as the bell rings! Dennings visibly frustrated that the bell rang, but she did win the round in a fairly convincing fashion.

Round 5:

Kat looking to build off of her momentum from the previous round and immediately gets in close to Brie and starts firing off punches to the blonde’s body, but Larson is able to move away from Dennings and effectively reset. Dennings once again closes the distance between the two women but this time Larson pops her in the mouth and stops her advance. Kat quickly moves backwards as Brie is now the one moving forwards, working her jab to make contact with Dennings, even if it is mostly into the brunette’s solid guard. Larson bangs a right off Dennings’ guard and the brunette fires back a right of her own, catching Larson in her right shoulder, knocking her off balance enough for Kat to sneak in a clear straight to the blonde’s face. Larson recoils and Dennings lands a glancing blow off Brie’s ribs. The two women take fewer shots at each other in the final minute and the bell rings to end the round. Dennings takes it on points, close.

Round 6:

Dennings starting to feel the momentum and she wastes no time firing off big punches at Larson, but the blonde stands her ground, taking the punches in her guard and jabbing at Kat, not wanting to let her control the fight. Dennins dekes Larson with a left and absolutely buries a right into the blonde’s body but Larson connects with an absolute haymaker of a right out of nowhere to Dennings’ chin and the brunette is stunned! Brie pounds two punches right into Dennings’ jaw and the brunette staggers backwards and the blonde connects with an uppercut that drops Kat. It’s a knockdown for Brie and she heads to the corner as the ref starts counting. Kat is moving her arm, trying to roll herself over, but she can’t roll of her back until eight. Dennings makes a desperate attempt to stand – but she can’t beat the count as she falls back down! Courtesy of a nasty punch that came out of nowhere, Brie Larson defeats Kat Dennings in six rounds!

After:

Larson is positively beaming as she celebrates her victory with a win that all but solidifies her spot as a top bantamweight, becoming only the third woman in twenty-six fights to defeat Dennings since 2016. Brie keeps her celebration short as she goes over to check on Kat, who is sitting up thanks to the help of the Front Street staff. Larson bends over and embraces Dennings, whispering into her ear. Whatever she said, Kat smiles in response and Brie exits the ring.

“Kat is an amazing fighter. To go 23-2 is impressive, to say the least, and she is one heck of a competitor.” Larson compliments her opponent in her post-fight interview. “I was lucky to line up a good shot, and luckily that was all I needed.”

When asked what she told Dennings after the fight, Larson responds, “That she’s an amazing fighter. What else can I say about her? She’s been a star at Front Street, and they have a lot of stars.”

Kat talks to the press later, keeping her comments short and to the point. “Larson has proven herself in her somewhat brief time at Fates. She was the better fighter today. Not much more to say beyond I’m going to get back to my winning ways.”
