New Year's Boppin' Eve 6: It's Still NBC At The Asylum PPV
Posted by HBO's Boxing At The Asylum on Dec 31, 2020 at 12:09am
BEFORE:
"Really excited to be here," says Stephanie with a smile. "About to break out on television, and now it's time to break out in the FCBA. And, what better time and place than breaking IN a new year at the Asylum!"
"She talks a lot about breaking," says Ariel with a shake of the head. "But, the only breaking tonight will be me breaking her FACE."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and 'Too Darn Hot' by Cole Porter..."
McCarthy: "Now, THIS is good music..."
Cassie: "Not surprised you like it, since it was written when you were a little girl..."
Tess: "Waiiiitttt for it..."
McCarthy: "You LITTLE...that song was written in the 40s!"
O'Dell: "For the musical 'Kiss Me Kate', and the young lady coming to ringside right now, Stephanie Styles, starred in a Broadway revival of same..."
Cassie: "And, she's starring in NBC's 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' opposite Front Street's own Jane Levy!"
O'Dell: "Stephanie into the ring and helped off with the robe. She's wearing a magenta number and clearly all the dancing on the boards has served her well. And, that's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' you hear behind us, and that can only mean that the lady singing this cover version of the song, Ariel 'Dangerous Curves' Winter, is on her way to the ring."
Tess: "Winter, of course, has locked up her spot in the Front Street flyweight division, as has Kristen Stewart, and we're going to know soon who'll be joining them, if anyone..."
McCarthy: "Well, I know who'll be joining me as a fighter ranked in the Top Twenty at age 47. No one. EVER. Because, I'm the Greatest Fighting Playmate of All Time and the first EVER fighter to be ranked in the Top Twenty AFTER her 47th birthday! And, if THAT doesn't get me in the Hall of Fame, it's a tragedy of justice!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Winter into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve..."
Cassie: "Neve, incidentally IS in the Hall of Fame..."
Tess: "REALLY, BFF?"
McCarthy: "And, I was ROBBED when I fought her! ROBBED! I had her beaten time and again and those fights were STOLEN from me, just like my spot in the Hall of Fame! I'll SUE! You owe me restitution!!!!!"
O'Dell (sighing more deeply): "Winter wearing that curve-hugging white number we've seen before, and the crowd showing its appreciation. Time for some picks. Tess likes Ariel. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Typical Dancing Hooker Opponent. NO FCBA wins! Winter."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Unanimous. Let's see if our panel is right. Styles going to move early. Not a surprising fight plan against a physical fighter like Winter. Stephanie using the jab, keeping the feet moving, making Ariel work to cut the ring. Winter trying to match footwork and bring her rival to battle."
Cassie: "Styles is a dancer, so she can move, and you're seeing it right now."
O'Dell: "No doubt about that. This is Vanessa Hudgens style legging going on at the moment. Winter taking plenty of jabs to the face and some follow on rights as well, struggling to run Stephanie to ground. Styles reversing motion, jabbing, circling, showing fast hands along with educated feet..."
McCarthy: "This is J-MAC style legging! You know, the only woman in FCBA history to be ranked in the Top Twenty at age 47!"
O'Dell: "Fifteen seconds left in a fast-paced first round. Styles has had control from the beginning and she's keeping it as we head for the bell. Good combination by Stephanie stops Ariel's pursuit and there's the bell. That was impressive stuff from the newbie. Stephanie. Wide."
Tess: "And Styles leads 10-9."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with Stephanie on the move again, but Ariel beginning to get the geometry right. She's angling, cutting, closing, and then banging. Styles tying up in there, but Winter's seen this game before and she knows how to play it. She's shoving off, working body..."
McCarthy: "Ref needs to WATCH her in there! Campbell trains these girls, so they've been taught low blows!"
O'Dell: "Winter backing up Styles with a hard combination. Stephanie covering up, getting hooked to the body. Broadway star tying up now, but Winter leverages, works body until Styles manages to force a break. Ariel right back after the older woman, backing her up with another hard combination..."
Tess: "You can see why this girl's going to be on the roster. VERY physical for this weight..."
Cassie: "And, Uncle Wiz LOVES physical fighters..."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch in the second. Ariel's been in control the whole way. She backs up Styles again with a hard combination. Stephanie taking some hard shot and shipping it well, but she's taking too much of it. One last flurry from Winter and there's the bell. Ariel. Wide. And we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third begins with more cutting of the ring by Winter. Styles tying up immediately, not letting Ariel get much going inside. Then, she slips away to open canvas and gets back to the jab. Stephanie very athletic, moving very well. Winter closing, banging some body before she's tied up again."
Cassie: "I'm impressed with Styles. She doesn't look out of her depth in there."
O'Dell: "Definitely does not. Winter again inside to work some body, but Stephanie quickly wraps her up and forces a break. Styles back on the move, jabbing, circling, stopping to pop and landing a nice combination. Winter cuts her off, steps in, bangs those ribs before Stephanie slips away."
Tess: "Two way round, Jenny."
O'Dell: "Absolutely. Neither fighter getting all of what she wants, both getting enough to score points, and it will likely be a near thing when we get to the bell. Almost there. Ten seconds to go. Good exchange there with both fighters landing a hard right and there's the bell. Styles. Barely."
McCarthy: "And, Stephanie is up 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Settling into a pattern now. Styles on the move, Winter cutting, closing, and then Stephanie ties up, doesn't let Ariel get much going inside, then slips away. Styles scoring some on the move, but not a lot, because the younger woman's cutting and closing quickly."
McCarthy: "If Styles can keep this up, she'll win the fight. All these Campbell-trained girls at Front Street are one-trick ponies."
O'Dell: "Winter inside, working body. Styles ties up, slips away to her right. Jabs, circles, reverses direction. Winter cuts, closes, goes back to work downstairs and ROCKS STEPHANIE WITH A RIGHT UPPIE! Styles stumbling backward and DROPPED WITH A LEFT HOOK!"
Cassie: "May not get up from THAT..."
O'Dell: "Winter to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Styles down on her left side. Rolls to her belly at six. Seven. Eight. She's not going to make it. Nine. TEN! It's over! Stephanie still down on her belly as the count passes her by and it's OVER and your winner by KO4 is Ariel 'Dangerous Curves' Winter!"
Tess: "Part of what makes Winter a contender at this weight is that she hits well ABOVE it."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore."
Tess: "I have our winner, Ariel Winter, and, Ariel, she showed she could move in there..."
Ariel (nodding): "Very quick. She can hit, too. But, she can't hit like ME, and that's the difference."
Tess: "Well, you finished the year 8-1 and clinched a roster spot. That has to make you feel pretty good..."
Ariel (smiling): "All except for the '1', Tess. But, we've got a new year coming, and my goal in 2020 is to get another shot at that gold and bring it back to Front Street." |
