BEFORE:
"This stable struggles for years at welter," says Mackenzie with a shake of the head. "And, yet, when MY phone rings, it's to come in here and fight some kid from the CW they signed? This is a mistake. And, she's going to pay for it."
"Davis wants to talk?" asks Kennedy. "Well. I'm going to do MY talking in the RING."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Blister in the Sun' by the Violent Femmes you hear. That song is from the 'Halt and Catch Fire' soundtrack, and here comes one of the stars of that series, the lovely Mackenzie Davis!"
McCarthy: "And, Davis is RIGHT. Weirdo wouldn't know a welterweight if he stumbled over one!"
O'Dell: "Davis wasting no time getting down the aisle and into the ring. She's helped off with the robe to reveal and black and white striped number and a body that's definitely been trained hard for this one..."
Oh the shark, babe
Has such teeth, dear
McCarthy: "HE CAN'T DO THIS! I'LL SUE!"
Tess (sighing): "For the MILLIONTH time, Wiz BOUGHT the rights to use this song..."
McCarthy: "STOLE! He stole MY song! It's a TRAGEDY OF JUSTICE and I'm going to SUE!"
Cassie: "Uncle Wiz has more lawyers on retainer than you have naked pictures floating around on line, so..."
McCarthy: "You LITTLE..."
O'Dell (sighing): "Last fight of the day. Hang in there. Booze coming. But, until then, let's keep our eyes on the ring, where the lovely Kennedy 'Mac The Knife' McMann..."
McCarthy: "Siri, CALL MY LAWYER!"
O'Dell: "Is climbing in. McMann being helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing a lovely lavender number that's got the crowd's attention..."
McCarthy: "LOW STANDARDS!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Aaannndddd we're about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Kennedy. Mac?"
McCarthy: "I WILL NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE YOU AMBULANCE CHASER!"
O'Dell: "MAC!"
McCarthy: "WHAT! That clown is deliberately not taking my calls!"
O'Dell: "A PICK!"
McCarthy: "McMann is Mac The Fraud! Knock her OUT Mackenzie!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "There's the bell. Ladies getting to range right now, and that's not a surprise, because both are long and have plenty of reach and DAVIS GETTING RIGHT TO WORK! She's touching up the redhead with some hard shot, forcing Kennedy backward in the early going..."
Tess: "Davis a little taller and has a bit more reach and that is playing right now..."
O'Dell: "Is, indeed, because the Canadian is getting OFF and forcing the American to the defensive. McMann giving ground, covering up, not doing much on offense. She's definitely a bit out of sorts at the moment, as Mackenzie dispenses with the formalities and gets AFTER it in her first FCBA round..."
McCarthy: "GET her, Mackenzie! Serves her RIGHT for stealing my nickname and song!"
O'Dell: "Fifteen to go in the first and Davis in complete control. Redhead not hurt, but she's taken a lot of fire in this stanza and continues to do so as we head for the bell. NICE combination, Davis! Blonde landed a HARD right in there and there's the bell. Mackenzie takes the first. Wide."
Cassie: "And leads 10-9."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with Davis again coming forward behind that jab and McMann stops her COLD! Kennedy firing back with a hard right hand and now it's the redhead going to the offensive. Mackenzie might be a bit buzzed right now, and Kennedy taking full advantage..."
Cassie: "Might not be buzzed, but Kennedy got her attention..."
O'Dell: "Sure did. And, McMann now taking the fight to the older woman, banging away with both hands, backing the Canadian up and pinning her to the ropes. Mackenzie with the guard high, jabbing back here and there. She's taking the worst of it, but not going into a shell..."
McCarthy: "I LIKE this kid. Maybe, when I retire, I'll let HER be 'Mac The Knife'..."
O'Dell: "Down the stretch in the second, which has been just about a polar opposite of the first. McMann's been in control and taking the fight to Davis. Mackenzie banging back hard now as we approach the bell. SHARP exchange there to end the round. And, it's Kennedy's. Wide."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Ladies back to work at range in the third. This time, neither pressing the issue. Instead, blonde and redhead going to get their respective boxes on. Wiz on record as saying McMann has the Anna Torv template, and we're seeing some Anna style boxing right now..."
McCarthy: "This girl isn't in Torv's LEAGUE and never WILL be!"
O'Dell: "Meanwhile, Mackenzie doing quite the job of boxing with as well. Davis' jab isn't just long, it's educated and stiff. Blonde moving the feet, head, and hands well. No question she's got the athleticism to not only play this game but fight at lightweight or welter."
Tess: "Just thinking that, Jenny. She's tall enough. Walks around about 135. She could be a problem at welter."
O'Dell: "Final twenty seconds of round three and not much in it. Ladies boxing, moving the feet, putting punches together well. GOOD right from Davis and McMann fires back with one of her own! There's the bell! And, an exchange of smiles between the fighters before they head to their respective corners. Nothing it in at all. Even."
Cassie: "And, so is the fight, at 29."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Back to boxing, with the blonde snapping that long left jab home more frequently now. Mackenzie getting the range on the younger woman and dropping in hard right hands behind the left. McMann forced to cover up as the Canadian's getting in rhythm now..."
Cassie: "Am I the only one wondering how Davis hasn't been in an FCBA ring before now?"
O'Dell: "Not after what we're seeing right now. Of course, her big, breakout movie did happen late last year, but you'd think SOMEONE would have booked a girl who looks this good before today. And, she's looking plenty good backing up the redhead, forcing her to cover up again and again..."
Tess: "McMann reduced to the odd counter right now. Not hurt, but being suppressed."
O'Dell: "No doubt about it. Down under thirty seconds in what's been a very good fourth round for Mackenzie Davis. Canadian landing some SOLID shot in that last exchange. McMann ships it and stays afloat. One more flurry from Davis and there's the bell. Mackenzie. Wide."
McCarthy: "And Davis is up 39-38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth begins with more aggression from the blonde. She's coming forward behind the left jab now, backing up the redhead. SHARP right hand counter from McMann and DOWN GOES KENNEDY! Davis connecting with a BOOMING right hand and McMann dropped to her back!"
McCarthy: "Another failed Front Street welter!"
O'Dell: "Canadian to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. McMann staring up at the ref. Six. To her belly at seven. Pushing up to all fours at eight. And, to her feet at nine. Referee going to give her the mandatory. And, waive on Mackenzie! Davis letting the hands go in a BIG way..."
Tess: "Kennedy's got some time to kill here..."
O'Dell: "Does, indeed. She's got the guard high, backing into the ropes. Tight earmuff now. Putting the body on sale, but Davis not buying at any price. She's going for the finisher. Ref watching closely. Redhead jabbing back here and there, but mostly just taking as the clock ticks away. Ten seconds. GOOD right, Davis. McMann ties her up...and there's the bell."
Cassie: "10-8 for Mackenzie, who's now up three, 49-46."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Davis back after Kennedy early. She's stepping to the redhead again. McMann giving a little ground, stabilizing her front some. Blonde may be a little gassed. Used up a lot of energy those last two rounds, and she's slowed some in this one, and that may be allowing the redhead some breathing room."
Cassie: "Definitely is. Kennedy getting those legs back under her."
O'Dell: "And, she's able to create the distance she wants now. She's holding canvas, not being walked down. Instead, Kennedy's keeping things at gunnery range. Mackenzie still scoring, fighting on relatively equal terms here, but McMann denying her a clean up."
Tess: "And getting back into the fight while doing it."
O'Dell: "Fifteen to go in the sixth. Close, two-way round. Kennedy a solid flurry that forced Mackenzie to cover up. Davis fires back and the redhead responds and we've got a FIREFIGHT going on as the clock runs down! BIG right Davis and McMann responds with one of her own and there's the bell! Close. Kennedy."
McCarthy: "But, Mackenzie's still up two, 58-56, with four to go."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Ladies going to box at range as we start the seventh. Blonde using that reach advantage to get the long left jab home. Redhead angling to get to sports where she can get off and then doing so and ROCKING DAVIS! Nice right hand from McMann and Mackenzie is all wobbly-butt!"
Tess: "Didn't catch her clean, but she CAUGHT her..."
O'Dell: "And, Kennedy going all in right now. She's determined to finish this thing, backing the blonde into the ropes and having at her with both hands. Mackenzie rolling with, keeping the guard high, jabbing back here and there, trying to ride out the red storm..."
McCarthy: "And, doing a good job of it. Just hang in there and get the legs back..."
O'Dell: "Kennedy pouring fire on the older woman. Blonde soaking up some hard shot, but she's holding on and even banging back in spots. McMann not going to be able to get her out of here. Only five seconds to go. Good right from Kennedy, but there's the bell. McMann. Wide."
Cassie: "But, Mackenzie still leads 67-66 with three to go."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "McMann wants to press early, but the blonde firing right back. Davis has the legs back under her and we've got HAMMER AND TONGS in the middle of the ring! Blonde and redhead going after it big time right now. Heavy fire being exchanged. GOOD right Davis..."
Cassie: "RIGHT HAND, KENNEDY!"
O'Dell: "And DOWN GOES MACKENZIE! What a SHOT from McMann and the blonde crumples to her back. Kennedy to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Davis to her feet. Referee going to give her the mandatory, and ON COMES KENNEDY..."
Tess: "Red storm raging again..."
O'Dell: "It is, indeed. McMann backs the blonde to the ropes for the second round in a row. She's looking to cut power completely. Davis in the high guard, rolling with again. BIG right by Kennedy splits the gloves and wobbles Mackenzie and THAT'S IT! Referee steps in to stop it and it's OVER! And your winner by KO8 is..."
McCarthy: "DON'T SAY IT!"
O'Dell: "Kennedy 'Mac The Knife' McMann!"
McCarthy: "I. WILL. SUE!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Kennedy McMann, and, Kennedy, that was some fight!"
Kennedy (nodding): "Yeah. She's just really physical and really talented and I told her that after the fight. No wonder they cast her as a terminator. She's got lightweight speed and welterweight power..."
Tess (smiling): "That's what Wiz says about YOU..."
Kennedy (grinning): "Well. I like to think I do."
Tess: "So, which division will you be fighting in?"
Kennedy: "I'm going to take whatever fights management thinks I should take. I signed here because of the people who make those decisions, and I'm going to trust them."
