TESS VALMORE
I must say I am happy the way the Asylum fights turned out. I went 6-0 on predictions. After my no so great 13-8 performance at the PPV, it ran my monthly record to 19-8. While I am happy, I must say I am not surprised
The opening bout featured Kristen Stewart and America Ferrera. This was Ferrera’s first fight. She didn’t get a lot of experience. About a minutes worth. I am surprised they let me interview Stewart after the fight since I am a fierce critic. If she is the top flyweight at Front Street, the stable is in flyweight trouble. Look at her competition this year. Three fights were against newcomers One win was against a 42 year old who hadn’t won a fight since 2010 and the other against a fighter who hadn’t won an FCBA bout since 2011. She fought one good fighter during the year and got her head handed to her. This is the way it had been her entire career. Her 35-6 record is a joke
Winter fought a newbie in Jeffery and walked away with a five round KO win. Winter is being brought along slowly after joining Front Street. Stewart better look over her shoulder Winter may replace her at the head of the bench
Swan got another newbie as an opponent Heelan lasted less then four. No big surprise here.
Megan Boone was in her second fight. She gave Dennings much more trouble than I expected. She took Dennings into the seventh before going down to a KO
I just dropped Arterton out of the top ten lightweights because of competition. This is a great example. Arterton is a top lightweight. What is she doing fighting an opponent who has had only two fights in five years and lost both. DeVitto’s last loss was to a bantam. It didn’t take a genius (which I am not) to predict a Arterton win
Perry faced the best fighter by far in this PPV. Wagner is getting up in age, but is still capable. She is a front street favorite. Five of her last six fights have been against Front Street fighters and had beaten both Swan and Arterton. A Wagner win would have been an upset but not particularly earth shaking. Of course it didn’t happen as Perry won on six round TKO
As I have said previously, while I am not thrilled with Front Street’s of general scheduling easy wins, the strategy works. It’s produced four unified champions in the last two years. I guess that is why the Wiz is a manager and I am a reporter
