'Bastille Day' Boxing from Cannes

BEFORE: This could be a memorable weekend for the French nation as their football team prepares for the World Cup final over in Russia however down in Cannes the Bastille Day festives conclude with a BBU-sanctioned bout between aspiring contender Elodie Yung and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard.

Yung remains undefeated in boxing competition while Cotillard has struggled for success away from the theatres but she offers the elite brand name and enjoys a standing ovation from the audience which clearly makes the younger brunette jealous. Elodie vows to stun the older woman and keep herself in the thick of bantamweight title picture even though BBU TV's Georgie Thompson doesn't think the raven-haired beauty can elbow herself to the front pages sooner rather than later. The 120 lbs division is simply that crowded these days and Yung needs to batter more demanding opponents than Cotillard if she wants to catch enough attention outside of the home country!

Elodie Yung wears a black sports bra, light blue panties and red gloves. Long black hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Marion Cotillard wears a red sports bra, blue hotpants and matching blue gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a curled ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.

Round 1:
Marion's sluggish start gets punished straight away and even the crowd's support doesn't allow her to match Elodie's up-tempo swinging. She eats a hooking rally to drop back onto her heels and soaks up more pressure when Yung simply whacks her from both flanks to indicate she won't drag this contest through unneccessary measures. Marion tries to keep up with the frantic pace but gets outworked in close range and battered onto the ropes with Elodie clocking her into visible bruises within the opening couple of minutes. Marion's guard takes one brutal hit after another and the poor veteran can only clinch her foe into safety but the ref is quick to react and gives Yung a late opportunity to underline her dominance. She splits Marion's gloves one more time and bends her sideways across the turnbuckle when the clock finally expires and halts the rampant performance from the younger brunette.

Round 2:
Cotillard tries to improve her footwork but Elodie stays on top of the action and picks her way through a very shaky defense and pins the older brunette on the back foot. Marion tries to swing herself into contention and while she scores a couple of good punches, the Yung response reels her behind a desperate earmuff come the one minute mark. It's getting a bit one-sided again here in the ring and Marion's squeals indicate how badly she struggles to embrace the fellow brunette's heat. Elodie misses a few shots here and there but then switches low and drills the exposed tummy to back Marion into the ropes where more punches come crashing down on the aching veteran. Cotillard's head swivels back & forth and the embattled veteran sinks on jelly knees when Elodie rips through her nasal ridge to inflict a bloody gash late in the going. Ugh! Marion wobbles back to her corner and the Cannes audience has apparently switched sides to support the younger actress now.

Round 3:
Marion gets glued to the spot when she struggles to embrace another high-octane rush and Georgie Thompson begins to wonder if Clara Morgane should have been approached for this contest since Elodie simply takes the Academy Award winner to the cleaners and works on her nose wound to the point Cotillard only moans from behind the guard while getting picked off in relentless fashion. She drifts back to the ropes and connects with half-hearted hooking drive but eats too many shots on the return to throw Yung off her aggressive stance. The prowl continues and eventually traps a slow-moving Marion in the corner where Elodie prefers to bang extra juice to the body and leave the older woman gasping for air at the bell.

Round 4:
It seems like Elodie has taken her foot off the gas a bit early in the fourth but Marion's unable to make it count as she bounces off the high guard and eats a swift reply when Yung finds her mojo back. She tags the wounded nose with several quick hooks to sink Cotillard into spasms but it's a hook across the boobs that sends the older woman trembling before a vicious uppercut slams her on the chin AND DROPS TO HER KNEES in the process! Elodie punches the air in delight while Marion takes the standard eight count before recovering. She remains visibly shaken but is allowed to continue and Yung quickly pounces on her to wreck more head-hunting damage. She pummels the aching veteran back to the turnbuckle where the curled ponytail goes for a ride and there's literally nothing Cotillard can do other than stopping the Yung assault with her face! Elodie realizes she's got the veteran on the last boxing rites and pulls back from the kill shot as if she wants to torture her a bit longer here! The clock expires with Marion almost fainting into the abyss and Georgie Thompson believes she should abandon this fight next!

Round 5:
No French fighter quits on her stool on Bastille Day though and a banged up Cotillard makes it out of her corner only to meet a crushing attack from the dominant foe; Yung connects with the temples from both flanks before piercing the solar plexus and sending Marion into a whimpering demise. However she still manages to blast her with additional aerial strike on the damaged nose which terminates Cotillard's resistance on the spot. SHE COLLAPSES FACE-DOWN at Elodie's feet and the ref promptly waves it off! KO5 Elodie Yung!!!

AFTER: The 'other' Elodie might currently hold the French bantamweight title but Ms Yung did herself no harm in a brutal destruction of Marion Cotillard that ought to open some elite doors in the near future. While Clara Morgane's status remains a little unknown, Elodie Yung might well be heading into immediate stardom even though she refuses to acknowledge her partisan peers when she speaks to Georgie Thompson several minutes after tonight's bout: "Argghh... nobody cares about Clara anymore! Unless she wants to book a trip to the surgeon soon! She's old news and way below my standard these days. Meanwhile Marion's people contacted me over taking it easy and boy, they are sooo stupid! I could have send her packing with a broken bone or two but she escaped the worst scenario here! Nevermind that! I only wish the World Cup victory doesn't overshadow my tonight's performance because I'll have to start all over again and maybe take Clara for a ride next. Allez les Bleus!"
