Taylor Swift vs. Yvonne Strahovski (Results: Lookout!, Story: Fates)
Taylor Swift: 30 years old, 5’11”, 42-17 since 2009, Fates Boxing, Lightweight Champion
Yvonne Strahovski: 37 years old, 5’8”, 66-30 since 2008, Lookout Boxing
Before:
Tonight’s lightweight title bout pits the two top blondes of the lightweight division up against each other. The challenger, Yvonne Strahovski, is a future Hall of Famer, has had five title reigns, and had set the record for consecutive title defenses during her reign from 2013-2014 with seven successful defenses. Her opponent, Taylor Swift, may only be in her first title reign, but there she has certainly made it count. Swift broke Strahovski’s record last month for consecutive title defenses and now is in what will be her ninth consecutive title defense.
While Yvonne has spent her entire career with Lookout, Taylor has bounced around from stable to stable, but once she joined Fates, she went on a thirteen fight winning streak that was only shattered by Strahovski’s stablemate, Kate Upton, in humiliating fashion two weeks ago. But tonight, Swift’s focus is on maintaining her lightweight record of perfection at Fates and further etching herself into the history books.
The two blondes fought each other twice before in 2019, with Strahovski defeating Swift by KO7 in February and Taylor returning the favor by KO9 in July in her second title defense.
At the press conference, the competition between the two is apparent from dialog.
“Well, I think Kate Upton proved that Taylor Swift is mortal, and, frankly, she’s nowhere near as good as I am.” Strahovski starts, “I mean, she took some easy fights as champion, has stayed well away from her stablemate Emily DiDonato because she knows she’ll lose, and I’m pissed she broke my record. I’m taking the title back, retaining it through when I get inducted into the Hall of Fame, and will break Taylor’s record and reclaim it.”
Swift itching to respond, “First off, I basically defeated everyone in the top ten, including you, your stablemate Kissy Peregrym, and Kendall Jenner. Oh, and outside of lightweight I buried Kate Upton too, and am counting the days until I beat her again and humiliate her. So don’t say I’m not afraid of taking hard fights.”
Yvonne merely laughs, “So why did you avoid Kendall Jenner for so long? Why are you avoiding DiDonato? You know you needed luck to beat them, so you entirely avoided one and only took up Kendall once you knew that you had tied my record.”
“That’s not true!” Swift exclaims.
Yvonne laughs again, “Regardless, your little reign is going to be over tonight. Everyone is sick and tired of hearing about how you’re the alpha blonde of the FCBA, of how the lightweight division is your sandbox. At least Emily would be likable as a champion because of her meteoric rise from not having a stable to being one of the elites who isn’t insufferable. So shove it, Swift, and enjoy your final hours as champ.”
Come time for the fight, the crowd is buzzing with excitement - a match between the two girls with the most consecutive title defenses at lightweight, the former record holder going against the reigning champ who break her record. First out is Yvonne Strahovski, who takes off her robe to reveal a bright pink sports bra with white gloves and trunks, her hair up in a ponytail. The future hall-of-famer gives a brief wave to the crowd, but quickly returns her focus to the ring. Taylor Swift soon comes out afterwards, belt around her waist. The champion has chosen to wear a matching gold sports bra with her golden trunks, and has blue gloves for the fight. The two girls go face to face in the center of the ring, Swift looking down at Strahovski. The referee pulls the two girls apart, asks them to touch gloves, which they reluctantly do, and he calls for the bell and off we go for the lightweight title!
Round 1:
Swift and Strahovski waste no time in going after each other, with Taylor looking to land her jabs from range while Yvonne wants the counter. Taylor fires off a big right jab that smacks Yvonne in the mouth and the Aussie stumbles backwards. Taylor bounds forwards, looks for a big left to Vonnie’s jaw - but Strahovski dodges the blow neatly and pops the singer in the nose and Swift is stunned! Strahovski slams a right into Taylor’s jaw and sends her staggering backwards while shocking her back to reality! Swift giving up ground and Strahovski throwing quick punches, moving the singer back. Taylor plants her feet and throws a punch that skims off of Yvonne’s ear and Vonnie responds with a right hook that wobbles Swift and then follows up with an uppercut that drops Swift on her butt! It’s a first round knockdown for the challenger and Strahovski goes to the corner as the ref starts to count over a stirring Swift. One. Two. Taylor moves her arms around, looking to roll herself onto her belly. Three. Four. The singer gets onto her belly and starts to get her knees under her at five. Six. Swift on all fours. Seven. Eight. Taylor pushes herself up at the count of eight, looking a bit shaky, but the referee checks in on her and determines the champ can continue. Yvonne looks to push the tempo, but Taylor lands some jabs to keep Yvonne away until the end of the round. The bell rings and the looks between the two corners are already disparate - the Lookout corner feeling confident and the Fates corner scratching their heads as Strahovski takes the opening round on points, wide.
Round 2:
Yvonne again charges out of her corner and Taylor looks to preempt her with a right, but her punch sails wide of where Vonnie is and Strahovski clocks Swift with a right to the cheek. Taylor is reeling again and it looks like the champ may have seen her day come as Yvonne bobs left and sticks the champ with a right. Straho throws the follow-up left but the blow gets smothered as Swift clinches. Yvonne tries to wriggle her way out, but Taylor holds her tight and the referee has to get the two girls to separate. After the break, Strahovski again looks to dart in at Swift, but this time, the younger blonde is ready for her and Taylor literally beats her to the punch, rapping Strahoovski’s chin with a right and Swift steps forwards and connects with a one-two to Yvonne’s body, knocking her backwards. Strahovski quickly gets out of Swift’s range to regroup and when Taylor closes the distance, Vonnie steps in, feints high then plugs Taylor’s body. Swift may be the bigger girl and have an impressive winning streak against lightweights going, but anyone who fights three times in the span of fifteen days is going to be sore, and Vonnie found a spot that makes Taylor wince and again the singer clinches, only this time, the bell rings. The two girls go to their respective corners, and while Taylor didn’t get walked over like the previous round, Yvonne still wins on points, but close.
Round 3:
The advice in the Fates corner is pretty clear - either pick it up and pull it together or lose the title. The round starts and the two blondes start circling each other, but the tactics remain the same as Swift wants to use her range to strike out at the smaller and more nimble Strahovski. Taylor feints with her left and socks Vonnie with a right, knocking the actress backwards. Swift steps up and Strahovski hammers a right into Swift’s belly and Taylor’s eyes go wide. The singer instinctively lashes out at her opponent and makes contact with the actress’ chin, giving Taylor just enough time to dig a left into Strahovski’s body, and now it’s Swift who backs off to prevent Strahovski for hitting her back. Both blondes warily eyeing each other, feinting and trying to get their opponent to jump, but neither girl can get a full commitment out of the other before the bell rings. It’s a close round, but Taylor barely ekes out ahead on points.
Round 4:
Strahovski settling in well, appearing relaxed as she gets off of her stool, but Swift is on edge. The challenger wastes no time in baiting out the champ’s jabs and Straho shows off some fancy footwork, basically dancing around Swift’s strikes before the actress feints high, gets the singer to bite, and then plug body. A gasp gets caught in Taylor’s throat and Yvonne nails another blow right into Swift’s right ribs, forcing the singer to exhale. Taylor quick on the clinch, holding Vonnie until the ref breaks them apart. After the two girls get separated, it’s more of the same, Strahovski going after Swift’s body and Taylor just looking to keep Yvonne away. Taylor connecting with some blows, making good contact with Strahovski’s chest on two occasions, but Strahovski always gets in three punches for every blow Swift connects with to the bell. For yet another round, it is a tale of two corners as it seems like the writing is on the wall for Taylor Swift’s record-breaking title reign, and Yvonne Strahovski seems determined to defeat the woman who broke her record for consecutive lightweight title defenses.
Round 5:
It’s round five, and the crowd consensus seems to be changing. When the night started, the crowd was split as to who would win. But now, there are murmurings - if Swift loses the fifth, is the writing on the wall? The only way to find out is to see what happens this round as both girls know what’s at stake. Taylor opens the round up with a feint with her right before connecting with a straight left right to Strahovski’s button. Vonnie’s head snaps backwards and Taylor sees her chance. Leggy blonde charging forwards to throw a right - but Swift whiffs and Yvonne buries leather into Swift’s midriff, shooting the singer’s butt out and nearly bending the blonde double! Taylor’s arms instinctively cover her face and does so just in time as Strahovski uncorks a vicious right that smacks right into Swift’s guard, but knocks Taylor’s arms into her face with plenty of force and Swift staggers backwards, her legs wobbly! Taylor tries to turn her backpedaling into circling, but Vonnie cuts off her angle and pops a quick right into Swift’s tummy and the blonde singer goes into the ropes with the middle rope saving her from a knockdown! Strahovski closes in and raps off two blows but somehow Swift gets back to a reasonable position and thumps Vonnie’s ribs, but it’s not clean and barely enough to get the actress to back off, with sweat pouring off of the singer. The two girls spend the final seconds trying to fake the other out, but not making any moves until the bell. Swift goes back to her corner, head hanging low as she’s drenched in sweat and knows she’s in a big hole. Is this the end of her reign and her streak at lightweight? Is Strahovski the one to end Swift’s reign?
Round 6:
Swift exhausted, wincing as she gets off of her stool, Fates seemingly wants to turn his back on the fight. Strahovski is practically licking her chops as a visibly battered Swift warily gets out of her corner. The first minute is all Strahovski, dipping, ducking, dodging, and diving out of any of Swift’s blows and pumping out a quick punch or two before repositioning. Vonnie dips right, goes to Taylor’s ribs with a left, drops back. Repositions, feint high, go body with a right, drop back. Reposition, feint high - and get rocked by a fast left from Swift that leaves Strahovski stunned before Taylor crashes in a right hook that knocks Vonnie backwards and on comes Taylor! The champ getting her second wind as she dissects Yvonne’s guard, battering the actress around the ring. Strahovski doing a good job staying on her feet, but that isn’t going to win her the match and Taylor makes a lasting impression on Yvonne’s body as she fakes low, Vonnie covers up her head, and Swift plugs tender Aussie midriff as the bell rings, getting a shout out of her opponent. Swift stares down her opponent for a second before returning to her corner, knowing that she won the round. The only question is whether or not she won a battle in a war she will lose. In the Lookout corner, the message is simple - it was one round, just don’t let it happen again.
Round 7:
Blonde girls showing signs of tiring as they open the seventh with a sloppy exchange. Swift lunges a bit with her first punch and Strahovski takes the blow before countering with a right that knocks Taylor in her face, just beneath her left eye. Blonde girls back off and reset out of fear that they are too exposed. After a brief pause, Strahovski bobs right - and Swift catches her with a left hook that nearly drops the actress! Vonnie’s wobbly and Taylor sticks the actress with two quick rights to knock her back into the ropes. Ref’s watching closely, making sure Strahovski isn’t totally getting pummeled in the ropes while Swift unloads on the actress. Yvonne manages to wrap her arms around the singer and forces a break, and when the action resumes, Swift gets to work with her jabs, making use of the waning seconds to snap Strahovski’s head backwards and getting the Aussie to stagger as the bell rings. Referee quickly gets between the two blondes and at the end of seven, it’s clear that while Strahovski started off strong, Swift has turned the tables, winning the seventh by shutout.
Round 8:
Taylor comes out with a fire in her eyes and for the first time this fight, it looks like the champ has a shot has a shot of adding to her record-breaking achievements. On the other side, Yvonne is merely looking for a better round than the previous ones, but right out of the gate, it appears to be a tall task as Taylor Swift quickly crosses the ring and splits Yvonne’s guard with a right that makes its way to Stahovski’s chin. Vonnie launches a left hook in response, but Taylor leans back just enough for the punch to only move her hair as the punch goes by and Taylor rocks Yvonne with a right! Strahovski’s knocked off balance and Taylor crashes a left into the actress’ chin and down goes Yvonne onto all fours, her arms nearly giving out as well! Now it’s Taylor’s turn to go to the corner as the ref starts to count. Strahovski’s shaking her head as she struggles to get up as the ref reaches five. At seven, the actress winces and gets one foot underneath her, then stands up at eight, but looks wobbly. Ref checks in on her and Strahovski convinces him she’s okay as he lets the fight get back underway. Vonnie looks for a quick right to Taylor’s body, but the singer shifts and the blow barely glances off of Swift’s midriff and the singer strikes the actress with a vicious right that opens the Aussie’s right cheek up! Vonnie winces and looks to force Taylor away with a right, but this time she totally whiffs and Swift comes in with a right hook that sends Strahovski into the ropes on wobbly legs! The ropes save the actress from a knockdown but that’s about it as Swift pounces, landing an uppercut as the shorter girl’s arms are briefly caught on the ropes and Vonnie sinks into the second rope. Taylor unrelenting, just going for quick blows to the head and Strahovski’s guard falls AND THE REF HAS SEEN ENOUGH, GETTING BETWEEN THE TWO GIRLS! This match is over - your winner by TKO8 and STILL LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION, TAYLOR SWIFT!
After:
A come-from-behind victory for the champion as she extends the record to nine consecutive title defenses over 245 days and counting. Taylor dripping with sweat as she waves to the crowd while posing from the ring post while Yvonne is getting tended to by medics. Taylor prances around the ring for a minute before going over to Strahovski, tapping her shoulder, and heading out of the ring.
“So, who can stop me in this division?” Swift rhetorically asks. “Nobody. Absolutely nobody. I beat Kendall. I beat Strahovski. Twice. I beat Lima. I beat Katy Perry. I beat all these girls who everyone thought I would lose to again. And Kate Upton, don’t think I’ve forgotten about you. But right now, I’m just focused on holding this title for as long as I can. So who’s going to be sleeping next?
