TESS VALMORE
The April PPV featured thirty-five bouts including three title fights, One title changed hand as Brooklyn Decker snatched the crown from the hands of Adrianne Palicki. That was not a surprise as I had predicted that Decker would win. In the other two title fights DiDonato successfully defended her lightweight title and Evangeline Lilly turned back Scodelario.
The action in the welter division was light which is not too surprising. Lawrence won as did Righetti. Decker, in her first title defense, could go for revenge by fighting Lawrence or Tahnee Atkinson, who have both beaten her and are in the top ten. There is another welter out there, Amanda Righetti. who she should avoid, if she wants to hold the title for more than one fight.
DiDonato now has to look at Kendal Jenner and Alexis Ren, who both won on the card as did Swift. She can dismiss Swift, since she just beat her, but Ren and Jenner will be hard to avoid. If I was her, I would avoid Jenner as long as I could.
The surprise in the lightweight was Tasya Teles beating Missy Peregrym who is a future Hall Of Fame member. Teles was impressive and I think is someone to watch.
In the bantams, none of the other top ten bantams were is action, but main choices for Lilly’s next defense are Bennet, Dobrev and Kosarin. Lilly is 1-1 against Kosarin and has never fought Bennet or Dobrev.
In the flyweights Olivia Holt was not in action since she just won the title less than two weeks ago. The only top ten flyweights in action were Lavigne, Hale and Lowndes. Lowndes’ loss to Portman probably derailed any title match she was hoping for. Hale was impressive with her win over Megan Fox as, was Lavigne with her win over Sarah Carter. Their wins should move them towards the front of the line. You want to know why I don’t particularly care about the flyweights? I was wrong on seven predictions for this card. Five of the seven were in the flyweights.
To this point in time, there have been 236 conventional fights in the FCBA. Number ending by a knockout 236. I continue to wish that writers eliminate the “win by knockout” statistic. It is now meaningless as all fights end in a knockout.
There has been 8 debuts recently which will bring the number of newbies to 23. There is one more to come on the Asylum card, which will bring the number to 24. With the action picking up in the cougars, it seems we will be seeing more of those who we thought were inactive.
