BEFORE:
"Look," says Beth with a shake of the head. "Last time was tough. I mean, Chloe Bennet in my debut? This time? A girl on my level, and I'll show everyone I can beat her!"
"Well," says Sophie with a smile. "I may NOT be on Chloe Bennet's level, but Beth is about to find out she's not on MINE."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'Girl Crush' by Little Big Town, and here comes the star of CBS' 'The Neighborhood', Beth Behrs!"
Cassie: "And, Beth making a good point about the last time she was here. Making your debut against a top contender and former champion is not easy..."
McCarthy: "I made my debut against MANY former champions and I still WON!"
Tess: "I'm not sure if I should point out that Mac made her debut against Jennifer Lopez, who was NOT a former champion, or that the fight ended in a draw..."
McCarthy: "You don't know what you're talking about, Walmart!"
Tess: "ONE of us doesn't..."
O'Dell (sighing): "Beth into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal that white number we've seen before, and that's 'Hotter Than Hell' by Dua Lipa you hear behind us, which can only mean that 'Sultry' Sophie Mudd is on her way to the ring..."
Cassie: "Mudd has looked VERY good since joining Front Street, winning both at JMD and in a traditional fight. Uncle Wiz has a VERY strong bantamweight division, and Sophie might be making it even stronger."
O'Dell: "Mudd into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that Egyptian blue number we've seen before, and the crowd is loving it..."
McCarthy: "Philly. Low standards!"
O'Dell: "Aaaaannnnddd, the ladies are about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Sophie. Mac?"
McCarthy: "NO FCBA wins! Mudd."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, we're underway. Beth wants to box at range here, and no surprise. She's athletic, moves well. And, she probably doesn't want to sit in there and bang with Mudd. Sophie, meanwhile, not looking to get in the phone booth. Brunette wants middle distances..."
McCarthy: "Which goes to show she's poorly trained. Ought to get right in this girl's GRILL."
O'Dell: "Mudd angling, getting off in combination. Beth giving a little ground, moving well, want to create a little distance so that she can get her box on. Blonde putting together some nice combinations, ladies. Getting the hands out and back quickly. And, she's pretty accurate."
Cassie: "Sure is. Doing well on her terms."
O'Dell: "Sophie, meanwhile, angling in, getting off herself, landing some hard shot in spots. Beth taking it well. It's good, back-and-forth stuff as we head into the final seconds. Sharp exchange there, and there's the bell. Close one in the first. Sophie gets the points."
Tess: "And takes the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Tactical stuff again as we start the second. Sophie angling forward, sticking to middle distances. Beth wants more space. Blonde wants to be at gunnery range where she can box with the younger brunette. And, for the second round in a row, ladies getting some, but not all of what they want."
Tess: "Behrs showing some nice feet. Keeps moving, keeps making it tough for Mudd."
O'Dell: "And, its effective. Sophie getting to her spots and getting off in combination, but Beth continues the motion, gets out to longer range, gets the jab working, forces Mudd to try to work to her spots again. It's good stuff from both fighters, frankly, and there's not a lot in it."
McCarthy: "I'll say it again. Mudd ought to just get inside and get physical."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch in the second. Good exchange there and Mudd got the better of it, but Beth circles back to range, gets the jab working again. She's using it to score and to keep Sophie at bay. Final seconds ticking away and there's the bell. Close again. Behrs."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Back to work in the third, and, again, we're seeing a tactical battle. All about positioning and range. The blonde wants to be at long range, where she can use her length, work her jab. The brunette wants middle distances. And, again, both fighters getting some, but not all of what they want."
Cassie: "I like the strategy from Behrs. Mudd a very physical fighter. Take her rounds, you might be able to win this on the cards."
O'Dell: "That's clearly the thinking from the blonde, who continues to move well, work that solid jab, follow on with right hands. Sophie patient, moving the feet, angling, getting inside that jab and ROCKING BEHRS WITH A RIGHT HAND! Beth is hurt and BETH IS DROPPED BY A LEFT HOOK!"
Tess: "That was NASTY..."
O'Dell: "Sophie to a neutral corner. Beth down on her left side. Referee's count at three. Four. Behrs rolling to her belly. Pushing up to hands and knees at five. Six. Seven. Getting to her feet at eight but STUMBLING BACK TO THE CANVAS! Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Beth on all fours as the count passes her by, and your winner by KO3 is 'Sultry' Sophie Mudd!"
McCarthy: "Typical no-win opponent. Lucky she wasn't in there with a REAL fighter, like ME."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Sophie Mudd, and, Sophie, lots of boxing going on there for awhile, but, then you caught her..."
Sophie (nodding): "This is what Neve tells us all the time. Be patient. Don't force anything. The openings for power shots will come. When they do, don't miss them. And, I didn't."
Tess: "So, management has stressed that you are NOT just a JMD fighter..."
Sophie (smiling): "That's right. I'm not. I'm going to fight all kinds of fights. And, I'm going to keep getting better every time out. Count on that!"
