Intro: The opening bout of tonight's card sees a battle of youth vs experience, as Sydney Craven looks to continue her unbeaten run against Sammy Winward here in Goodison Park in Liverpool. Sydney is 24 years old, she stands 5'3 and holds a record of 2 wins, both by knockout and 0 defeats. Sammi is 32 years old, she stands 5'5 and holds a record of 2 wins, both by knockout and 10 defeats.
Both fighters were interviewed at their gyms, with the former Taekwondo fighter turned EastEnders actress finishes a heated sparring session with stablemate Melissa Suffield, the two bump fists at the bell but glare at each other to show the fist bump might just be for the cameras. Getting her gloves off; Sydney leans over the ropes and smiles as she says "so you guys come all the way for little old me, that's cute" winking at the press. "Sammy is just some out of shape hag to me, I mean do you see her on TV anymore, gone are the days her and Roxanne Pallett could get you lot excited by mud wrestling, which I'd kick both there arses at... Now she is run down and waiting for me to knock her out so I can continue on my way to getting a fight against Cheryl Cole for the title" says Sydney before wiping her brow. Stepping out the ring; she stops to tell the journalists "oh and just so all the girls in here know, I am the best in that ring" staring at Melissa, who leans over the ropes and stares back, with the press wondering what is going on with those two. Sammy's training camp looks a happier one, she finishes up cooling down and on her way to the showers, takes the time to talk to the press. "I hear Sydney has been saying she is knocking me out, silly little bytch; I might not have had the stellar career I hoped when I started in the BBU, but I sure as hell am not going down to some s*** from that shit show EastEnders" says Sammy with a hard look. She adds "just a warning to her and the rest of the division, I feel in great shape and I'm going to turn my career around, just you guys watch" smiling as she heads to the locker room to shower.
Fight night; the jam packed stadium first sees Sydney come out with trainer Kara Tointon in tow, Sydney looks all business as she walks down the aisle set up down to the ring. Her attire tonight is a red sports bra with gold trim, gold coloured gloves, red trunks and shoes, while her brunette hair is in a double braid. Stepping into the ring; Sydney raises her right fist in the air and turns to face each side of the crowd, then settles into her corner to begin warming up with Kara's help. Sammy now comes out with her coach, she is blowing kisses to the fans as she heads to the ring, but her eyes never leave the ring as she is look at Sydney. Her attire is a yellow sports bra, matching trunks and shoes, with silver coloured gloves, her blonde hair is up in a ponytail. Climbing into the ring; Sammy points at the ring centre as she faces her opponent and tells her "this is where I am knocking you out!" To a roar from her fans. After both fighters have been given a moment to warm up, the referee waves them to join him at the ring centre, where both women look each others trim fit bodies and smirk, trying to show they are not impressed by the other. They are asked to touch gloves, which leads to both women swiping them together, more interested in getting things started as they head back to their corners. Your commentary team for this fight are Denise Van Outen and Anna Woolhouse, as the bell rings to start 10 rounds of flyweight action.
Round 1: Both fighters square up and trade in close straight away, they seem like they want to show the other that they are not afraid of the other, but it just leads to them parrying and throwing punches back. Sammy shows her experience to get on the move, making Sydney follow her and using that reach advantage to land the jab between her gloves to her face. The Marti's corner telling Sydney to tighten her guard as her face is getting hit too cleanly for their liking, but Sydney is taunting Sammy; telling her to hit her harder as the blonde scowls in reply. Sydney soon dips under the jab and comes inside to bang away to the body of the veteran, knocking her onto the ropes, where she shows her hand speed with a well drilled body attack that has Sammy gasping. Pushing Sydney back to open up space, Sammy moves off the ropes and throws more punches in bunches to try and keep the youngster back. With Sydney showing off impressive head movement to dodge most of the punches aimed at her head, Sydney even puts her hands behind her back and clowns around with her opponent. The late part of the round sees Sydney take a jab to the top of her head, but slips under a follow up right cross and comes up with an overhand right that smacks Sammy to the side of her head. The bell rings with Sydney bullying Sammy onto the ropes, the referee needing to step in to break them up as they keep trading. Both fighters scowl across the ring at each other as they sit down, Anna and Denise agree that Sammy did enough to win that round, but Sydney hasn't left first gear yet in their eyes.
Round 2: Back out they come; trading jabs as they circle around each other, Sammy looking comfortable as they keeps Sydney to the outside. As they trade; Sydney slips under a jab and comes inside with more body punches ripping at the abs of Sammy, who gives her a nudge to open up a gap. The fighters trade in close as Sydney looks to bully Sammy back; dipping under a left cross from Winward and comes up with an uppercut that knocks her back onto her heels. Sammy having to cover up as she is driven onto the ropes; Sydney slamming away at the gloves of her opponent, looking to break them apart to smack Sammy's face. Needing to clinch up after Sydney goes to work on the ribs of Sammy, Sammy grapples onto Sydney tightly, with the fighters wrestling on the ropes till the referee steps in to break them up. When apart; Sammy dodges several punches aimed at her head and counters, Winward getting some control of the round as Sydney is a little too keen to get at her. The bell rings not long after to end the round, no afters between the two this time, calmly returning to their corners as their coaches speak to them. "That was awesome, just don't let your temper get to you OK?" Says Kara as she wipes Sydney's face down, with the youngster smiling back.
Round 3: Sammy looks to be boxing more defensive; using her reach to box on the outside as she moves around the ring. Sydney stalking her back with her head movement dodging most of the punches aimed at her, Sammy's fists just not quick enough to catch her younger opponent. Who seems to have stepped up a gear; knocking away a straight and landing one on the nose of Sammy, before following with a right and left across the cheeks of Winward. Sammy trying to cover up as Sydney bangs away at her body, WHEN SAMMY GOES FOR A RIGHT HOOK, SYDNEY DUCKS UNDER IT AND LANDS AN UPPERCUT THAT TAKES SAMMY'S LEGS FROM UNDER HER AS SHE FALLS TO ALL FOURS! Sydney flexes her arms as she heads to the neutral corner, 1...2...3 Sammy can be seen shaking her head, trying to clear it, 4....5...6 she pushes herself up to a knee and leans on the ropes with her right arm, 7...8 before shoving herself up to her feet. The referee checks on Sammy and let's her continue, Sydney looks to rush her as she sends a flurry up top, some find there way to the face of Sammy to knock her back. Pulling Sydney into a clinch as she gets too close, the fighters nearly fall through the ropes as their legs get tangled, the referee steps in as the fighters shove apart and look ready to throw from their knees. Once they are back up, Sammy finds herself being forced around the ropes near the ropes, Sydney banging her fists into the guard of the former Emmerdale star. The round ends with Sydney grinning as she heads back to her corner, having a clear lead now on the scorecards as Sammy looks disappointed in herself. Kara cleans up Sydney; praising her and telling her to finish this as soon as she can, as in the opposite corner Sammy needs patching up as her bottom lip is bleeding.
Round 4: Sydney is quick out her corner, getting right into Sammy's face as she has her aimed onto the ropes, with Sammy doing her best to match the intensity of the brunette. As Sammy misses with a left though, Sydney lands an overhand right that rocks her, A FOLLOW UP RIGHT AND LEFT HOOK ON THE CHIN OF SAMMY MAKES HER LEGS CRUMBLE UNDER HER AND DOWN TO HER FRONT SHE FALLS! The referee nudges Sydney back and orders her to a neutral corner, when he checks Sammy; he deems that she is knocked out, waving the fight off!
Winner Sydney Craven KO Round 4
After: A good statement win performance wise for Sydney, she didn't look too disciplined in tonight but that might be down to level of opposition she was in, she definitely can not clown around with the better fighters of the division. As Sydney celebrates with Kara, Sammy is safely turned to her side and checked on, after some time and smelling salts, Sammy wakens up and is helped up to her stool for more tests. The winner just ignores Sammy as she chats with her coach, Sydney holding her gloves aloft for the fans as they cheer for her, laughing as she hangs them around her down and down her shoulders. The ringside doctor waves that he wants Sammy taken to the back, she is still badly shaken up, leading to two medics stepping in the ring to help her the ring and up the aisle to the back. In the ring; Anna Woolhouse steps inside with a microphone to get a word with the winner, who puts her arm around Anna's shoulder and kisses her cheek, leading to both giggling. After being asked about her performance; Sydney answers "I knew I was too good for Sammy, I mean I have already battered Samia (Ghadie) she is ten times the fighter Sammy ever will be" Leading to the question about maybe this being a backward step fight wise, the reply "I agree but my management want me to get rounds under my belt, I'd love to go straight for the title, I mean I have been a fighter all my life, that's why when I became an actress that number one on my list was to join the BBU, I know I can be the best around here" her fans agreeing as they cheer that. The last question is about who Sydney wants to fight, other then the flyweight champion, making her smile at that part. "Well my stable wants to build me up, so I expect another worn out bytch; who I would want is anybody willing to give me a test, maybe that bytch Lucy Fallon, maybe a Maisie Williams, hell I'll go to Japan and Germany to fight the girls at those stables, I want to be tested is all I ask" says Sydney with her arms at her side. Anna thanks her for the comments and after she leaves the ring, Sydney goes for a victory lap inside the ring, waving at the fans to stand as she goes. Then leaving the ring with Kara, who might not be so pleased to hear her student wanting to fight the world just yet, but the fans definitely look excited by her willingness to do so.
