SUPERHEROINES AT THE ASYLUM III: SEASON OF THE WITCH PPV
Posted by HBO's Boxing At The Asylum on June 30, 2020 at 3:22am
BEFORE:
"Look," says Zazie with a smile. "A girl's got to start somewhere. Why not right at the top?"
"She has talent," says Chloe with a nod. "No question about it. But. You know the saying. There are lots of girls at this weight she can beat. I'm just not one of them."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Welcome to the Party' by Diplo..."
McCarthy: "This is a GREAT song!"
Cassie: "A major endorsement, since, you know, you've been LEGALLY ENJOINED FROM SINGING..."
McCarthy: "JUST ONE SONG AND SHUT UP, SCABBO!"
O'Dell: "This is going to be a very long night, gang. That song was part of the soundtrack of 'Deadpool 2', and here comes one of the stars of that film, the lovely Zazie Beetz!"
Tess: "And, Beetz wasn't wrong about starting at the top. Bennet currently ranked number two in the world at bantam, and she's been ranked in the top five for quite some time now."
O'Dell: "Zazie into the ring and helped off with the robe. Crowd liking that black and white striped number she's wearing. And, that's..."
McCarthy: "AWFUL! TERRIBLE! AN ASSAULT ON MY OLFACTION!"
O'Dell (sighing): "'Uh Oh', and that can only mean that the singer of that tune, former Unified Bantamweight Champion Chloe Bennet, is on her way to the ring..."
Cassie: "And, as Tess pointed out, Chloe's right in the middle of the bantamweight title picture. She's got an opportunity to get a shot to get those titles back this year. But, she needs a win tonight for that to happen."
O'Dell: "Bennet into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that blue number we've seen before and looking very, very good in it. Ladies about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Chloe. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Beetz has a good song, but she also has NO FCBA wins. Bennet."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Unanimous for the first time tonight. And Beetz immediately out to make our panel look bad. She's dancing around the ring, jabbing, circling, sticking an accurate jab in Chloe's face. Bennet moving the feet, looking to close and bring her rival to battle, but Beetz not having any..."
Cassie: "Not a bad strategy in dealing with Bennet. You don't want to stand and trade with her..."
O'Dell: "And, ranged boxing isn't your ticket, either. This, however, a war of movement, may just be something Beetz can work with. She's ranging all over the ring right now and frustrating all attempts by Chloe to create pitched battle. Instead, itz Zazie who's calling the tune right now..."
McCarthy: "No WONDER Weirdo didn't let this girl fight for the title. She can't even handle THIS tomato can..."
Tess: "Um. Bennet has not only FOUGHT for the title, she's WON it..."
McCarthy: "Blah. Blah. Blah."
O'Dell: "Ten seconds to go in the first, and it's been Zazie's round from the beginning. She's going to dance these final seconds away, keeping that jab popping. There's the bell. And, there's no doubt about it. Beetz takes the first and grabs the early 10-9 advantage."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Chloe beginning to cut the ring down a little as we start the second. She's coming forward, bringing Beetz to battle. Some sharp exchanges resulting, and the former champ is getting the better of those, no question of that. But. Zazie doing a pretty good job of holding her own, Mac..."
McCarthy: "She's not getting intimidated or blown out of there."
O'Dell: "She is not. Chloe, meanwhile, looking a lot more comfortable on these terms. She's at middle distances landing in combination, closing in and working a little body, going back to range to box effectively. Beetz slipping to open canvas, getting back to the jab and circle..."
Tess: "And, Zazie is very effective on the move. Very."
O'Dell: "Absolutely is. Chloe closes again, works some body. Beetz ties up, forces a break, then gets back to moving. She's dancing all over the place as the final seconds of the round tick away. Zazie going to leg them away again, and there's the bell. Close this time. Bennet."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Plans for both fighters pretty well set. Zazie wants to move, Chloe wants to bring her to battle, and it's all going to come down to which fighter is able to execute the plan. Right now, it's Beetz again, ranging around like she did in the first, being very, very hard to pin down, and, all the while, scoring on the move..."
Cassie: "And, that's the key point. You can't just dance around. You have to get leather on, and Zazie is doing it."
O'Dell: "Older brunette has length and quickness and she's using both very, very well. Bennet not hurried. She's taking her time here. Working the feet, trying to slow her rival down. Not getting it done at the moment, but, it pays to be patient in situations like these..."
Tess: "No doubt, because, if you get sloppy trying to close down, you end up getting caught."
O'Dell: "Exactly. And, Bennet is not the underdog with nothing to lose here. So, she's remaining very sound, even in the face of what has to be a little frustration at this point. Final seconds of the round ticking away, and Beetz going to leg them out again. There's the bell. Zazie. Wide."
McCarthy: "And Beetz back on top 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Bennet a bit more aggressive in cutting the ring down now. She's determined to get Beetz brought to battle. Zazie scoring well from range, piling up points while she's in motion. Chloe cutting, now getting in and banging. She's working a lot of body now, Mac. Wants to get into those legs do you think?"
McCarthy: "That's exactly what I think."
O'Dell: "Beetz ties up effectively. Ref going to break them and Zazie back on the move. Chloe working the feet, angling, cutting, back inside to work body, but Beetz again tying her up, forcing another break from the referee. Got to be impressed with the way Zazie's fighting here, ladies..."
Cassie: "No doubt about it. She's no kid and she has experience at other levels, but, for a first FCBA fight, this is good stuff."
O'Dell: "Twenty seconds left in the fourth. Been a close round this time, as Bennet's getting points inside, Zazie from the outside. Beetz dancing around and legging out the last seconds as she has ever round so far. And, there's the bell. Not a ton in it, but Beetz has got the round."
Tess: "And, she's up 39-37 after four."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Beetz on the move again, and Zazie looking to be in plenty good enough shape to dance all night long. She hasn't slowed a bit to this point. Chloe stalking, angling, cutting the ring. Zazie tying up, Referee breaks and Beetz back on her bicycle, snapping out that hard, accurate jab..."
Tess: "This girl has been impressive. No doubt about it."
O'Dell: "Has, indeed. Bennet angling forward, stepping to, working some body and ROCKING ZAZIE WITH A RIGHT HOOK! Beetz all wobbly-butt now after a BLAZING right hook from the former champion. Zazie taking heavy fire as Chloe lets the hands go. Beetz backed to the ropes..."
McCarthy: "Ref need to watch carefully..."
O'Dell: "That's what he's doing. Zazie with the guard high and tight. She's putting the body on sale, and Chloe's doing some buying. She's concentrating upstairs, though, looking to finish this thing. Beetz tying up. Chloe stacks her, goes right back to work, but Bennet's out of time. There's the bell. Chloe. Wide."
Cassie: "But, not only is Zazie still standing, she's still up 48-47."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Bennet working forward aggressively now. She's looking to finish this thing. Beetz giving ground, playing defense. Legs seem better, but, perhaps, not all the way back. Chloe sitting down on punches, sending the power shots at the older woman. Zazie doing well to stay off the ropes at the moment."
Cassie: "Doesn't want to end up there, that's for sure."
O'Dell: "Chloe crowding, banging some body, going upstairs to back her rival up again. Beetz tying up, trying to slow this thing down but Bennet continuing to toss the hard, accurate shot and SHE DROPS ZAZIE WITH A RIGHT HAND! Beetz crashing to her back after a BOOMING right..."
Tess: "This thing is history..."
O'Dell: "Beetz down on her back, eyes closed. Chloe to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. No movement at all from Zazie. Six. Seven. This is going to be academic. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is 'The Next Big Thing', Chloe Bennet!"
McCarthy: "Lucky punch!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Chloe Bennet, and, Chloe, she gave you trouble for awhile..."
Chloe (nodding): "She's slick. And, she's quick and athletic. Not easy to find. But. Eventually, I'm going to find you. And, when that happens, it won't go well for you."
Tess: "I know you're pushing hard for another shot at the title. Could have happened this month. What are your feelings on that?"
Chloe: "Look, I work for Front Street. I know what's happening here and why. I'm on the team. I'll get my shot. And, I won't waste it." |
