Alyssa Lynch vs Ruby Rose
Alyssa: (24, 5’7, 120, 25:12 FCBA, VIXENs)
Ruby: (34, 5’7, 2:2 FCBA, The Fighting Academy)
BEFORE: A mixed last year for Ruby Rose, and the same can be said about her counterpart tonight, Alyssa Lynch, who suffered three consecutive losses at the beginning of 2020 and was almost cut from her stable as a result.
“Heh. We don’t do that here at Fight Acad,” Ruby Rose smiling confidently at the press conference. “I get to pick and choose my own fights, and let me tell you: I only fight girls I know can win against. There’s a reason why Lyssa here has fought six times this year and this is only my first one: unlike her, I actually have a day job. That’s one. Two, I’m all about putting on quality fights rather than quantity.”
Alyssa definitely enters this fight with more experience, but she’s seen clearly rolling her eyes as she responds moments later:
“I’m sure you do. That’s why you stayed on Batwoman, huh? That’s what I’m hearing: pure and simple excuses, nothing more. If Ruby wants to only fight once or twice a year and play dress up in capes and spandex for the rest of it, well, that’s her prerogative. But that doesn’t make her the better fighter.”
Ladies are the same height and built as they pose at the podium, lean and mean fighting figures facing each other down without further comment.
Later, in the arena, Alyssa’s dressed in a pink sports bra and long black tights, donning white gloves. Ruby goes for a black sports bra and white boxing trunks, yellow gloves. Referee’s waving them back to their corners, and HERE we go with ten rounds of Bantamweight action!
ROUND 1: Slow start at the bell as these two ladies decide to feel each other out first - Ruby shows off nice form, keeping her dukes up and head hidden behind her guard. Alyssa’s perhaps a little complacent, eats some early jabs to the kisser, making Ruby-fans go nuts at a potential, early upset. Rose is definitely firing more punches than her counterpart, showing off speed as she ramps up the action with more lefts and rights, combos thrown together in quick succession as she peppers Alyssa’s arms and body, occasionally snagging the Vixen’s face, and that’s more than enough to secure her this opening round. Alyssa by contrast looks sluggish as hell in there, more than a little surprised by her opponent’s speed and stopping power.
ROUND 2: Still, Lynch’s bouncing on her feet a whole lot more, enabling her to avoid plenty of Rose’s punches this time. Rose herself comes forward confidently, flinging hooks into the mix after an excellent first round of jabs landing. The short-haired vixen’s definitely firing more punches with quantity than quality, however, as she chases Alyssa about the ring without landing anything more significant, whereas the actual Vixen is doing a good job of leading her foe about by the nose, the occasional right hand sent packing into the nose or chest to disrupt her advance. Alyssa takes the second as a result, but only by a small margin.
ROUND 3: Some good technique displayed so far by both sides as ladies continue to adapt to each other’s attack on the fly. Ruby stays back this time, poking at Alyssa’s face from behind her guard, whereas Lynch is trying to do the same from a distance. Ladies exchange rapid fire multiple times in the center of the ring, mad flurry of shots bunching up the cheek or rammed into the lips, action exploding rapidly whenever they sense an opportunity to inflict damage. Ruby however stuns Lynch with a looping hook to the side of her face, momentarily staggering the Vixen to the side. Lynch, losing any advantage she had in a flash, spends the rest of the round protecting her head as she retreats.
ROUND 4: Rose looks like she’s on fire as she ramps up the pressure, now advancing on Alyssa with more flurries, hoping to tighten the noose around Alyssa’s neck. Lynch however has some tricks of her own up her sleeve. The Vixen plays along in the first minute, moving backwards fast but also leading Rose in, Rose taking the bait as she pours in punches to the Vixen’s arms, snagging the tummy with another one-two combo. Lynch, however, was ready and waiting, immediately reverses course and POWERS a right hand into her face, stopping Rose in her tracks!! OUFFF!! Rose lets out a grunt, staggering back, looking dazed. Another step-in uppercut to the base of her jaw has her wires CUT! AND DOWN RUBY ROSE GOES in an early freakin’ KNOCKDOWN for the Vixen!!
Crowds already on their feet as Alyssa raises a victorious hand high, smirking as she steps around her fallen foe on her way back to the neutral corner. Rose is still lying flat on her back, doing her best to sit back up, but that swirling in her head has her eyes squeezed shut, the rest of her body shaking. Referee gives her a whole 10-count to recover but even that’s NOT enough - he calls for the bell with a wave of his arms, signaling a good and early KO for Alyssa Lynch!!
Official Decision: Alyssa Lynch defeats Ruby Rose via KO4!
AFTER: A self-assured smile from Lynch’s corner as the Vixen leaps into the air at this early victory, hugging her trainers and teammates in the corner as her music hits the airwaves. Lynch has surely enjoyed a nice win-streak since April of this year, now putting away another up-and-comer in the Bantamweight division.
“Rose thought she had me, didn’t she? Just goes to show that looks can be deceiving,” Alyssa says with a smile at reporters in her post-fight interview. “All that tattoos and buzz cut were for nothin’ - Rose is a certified pussy-cat!”
Rose on the other hand has to be helped back to her feet and to her own corner in the post-match, hanging her head on her stool as she reassesses what went wrong tonight:
“Alyssa’s the real deal, that’s all I’m willing to confess. She caught me with a lucky cross back there though that wouldn’t have happened if we were to fight again. I’ll be sure to mess her up bad next time.” |
