TESS VALMORE

When the PPV and the Ayslum occur on the same day, I review them both in one article

The PPV

The July PPV is in the books. It was a little lighter than usual with only 29 bouts. Now that is not a criticism but lately we have had as many as 49. There were a number of unexpected bouts, but the big bout that was expected, Strahovski/Winstead has probably been pushed back to a CBAD. It looks like Winstead was too busy jawing with Alesha Dixon and bragging about her owning some kind of white strap. I guess Winstead thought it was safer to jaw with Dixon rather than fight Strahovski There were two title fights and the titles remained with the holders. Ren retained her title by beating Peregrym while Portman retained her title by beating Williams with a last minute TKO in a good back and forth bout

Decker should defend her title next month. Most of the usual suspects won in this PPV, T. Atkinson being the exception. She was beaten by Kostek, who made the biggest move of the night and should now be in title shot contention. Upton and Ferguson also could be in line. Righetti won but is out, because of the LCA rule of not giving a title fight to anyone who has held the title in the last year. My money is on Kostek to get the next title bout

Ren successfully defended her title has a host of choices. I suspect she will pass on Swift after the blondes big win over Jenner because she beat her last month. She will also have to consider the winner of the Strahovski/Winstead bout. Winstead is probably out since she lost to Ren earlier this year. That leaves Strahovski and Daddario and Sophie Turner who both won on the PPV.

In the bantams, we don’t know who the champion will be come the next PPV, since Kosarin and Bella Thorne face off in the Dollhouse PPV in a week. There is a line waiting. Demi Rose, Lilly, Lynch who all won and could get the shot. Add to that,Scodelario and Dobrev and you have a long line. I assume winner of the Dollhouse bout will take the month end PPV off.

Portman survived the tough challenge from Michelle Williams will probably have to look at the rankings although Watson made the big move and should be the number on contender. Holt and Hudgens won Holt is out since she just lost the title to Portman in June

THE ASYLUM

Once again crowds flocked to the Asylum hoping to see sixty rounds of boxing. They got seventeen. Once again it was Reinhart getting the toughest fight and she disposed of her opponent in less than one. Reinhart needs to move up the food chain or be like Bennet and Dennings who have great records against less than impressive competition. Certainly Bennet deserves a title match, but she has been overlooked The Front Street strategy of scheduling names who are on the downside simply isn’t working for Bennet or Dennings Oh by the way the longest fight of the night belonged to that fighter I can’t talk about. Now this isn’t going to be popular at Front Street, but they should clear the lightweight decks and turn Hill loose. Arterton is fine but Hill has more potential than Perry whose only big win was four years ago.

Since these were the month end cards. so far this year there have teen 447 fights (I forgot CBAD and beach fights previously) How many KOs? 445

Six fighters seven fighters made their debut bring the total for the year to 41
