Melissa Villasñor
(32 / 5’2” / 0:1 FCBA / The Comediennes)

Miranda Cosgrove
(27 / 5’6” / 0:10 FCBA / Free Agent)

Story: The Comediennes / Result: Lookout!

Pre-fight:

“I’ve been a little frustrated,” says Melissa. “I can’t deny that. Only one fight so far while we’re out here signing another flyweight. I feel a little written off after losing to Tisdale and I don’t think it’s a coincidence the newest member of our stable is fighting her in a PPV this month. But, I’ve been training hard and I expect to get my first win tonight.”

“People keep calling me an ‘easy win’ and frankly I’m sick of it,” says Miranda. “I saw her fight against Ashley, completely outclassed in every way. I don’t see why I can’t exploit her glaring weaknesses and get my first FCBA win. She’s not that good.”

R1: Miranda comes out early with something to prove. Using her significant reach advantage, she marks Melissa with jab after jab. Moving well, she slides out of a counterpunch attempt and continues her early assault on The Comedienne. Melissa looking lost early while Miranda actually looks competent!

Melissa tries not to give any ground. She’s able to land a few jabs to keep Miranda honest, but not enough to do any significant damage. Cosgrove comes in and slams the body with two right hands. Melissa’s eyes widen. Miranda backs her up, that jab snapping Villasñor’s head back. The bell rings before any more damage could be done as Miranda takes that round comfortably.

10-9 Cosgrove.

R2: More of the same from Miranda. She’s using that jab effectively and efficiently, not missing many punches at all. Melissa clearly having trouble with the size disadvantage she’s facing.

Melissa can’t seem to make any headway as Miranda continues to tee off with that jab. Melissa looking frustrated, her hands dipping down as she gets picked apart into the second minute of round two.

Miranda getting closer and closer to her first win. She’s dominating the fight right now. She can feel it. But she gets in too close and negates her reach advantage. A sloppy move opens her up to a sneaky right hook from Villasñor! Miranda staggered. Melissa advances.

She knows she has to make up lost ground, so The Comedienne throws a lot of heavy stuff trying to get Miranda to the mat. One particularly pretty right cross makes everyone groan as Miranda looks like she’s about to go down. She stays up and gets nothing but a pummeling for it. The bell rings with Melissa sneaking out a round win.

19-19.

R3: Miranda tries to go back to her earlier tactic, but it’s too late. Her punches don’t have the same pop and Melissa is doing a better job evading them. All of Miranda’s momentum evaporated last round.

Villasñor can feel it. She’s getting in close, pounding the body, and then breaking apart before Miranda can counter punch. She’s moving well. Gloves up and hands active early.

Miranda tries an uncharacteristic haymaker that misses badly. Melissa takes advantage and throws a deep uppercut into her opponent’s midsection. A left hook follows up into the ribs of Cosgrove and she drops down to the canvas.

Clutching her side as she winces with each breath, the ref stands over her and she doesn’t even attempt to get up. It’s all over.

Winner: Melissa Villasñor KO Round 3

Post-fight:

“First win!” says a beaming Melissa. “I can’t get too cocky because well, Miranda’s no heavy hitter. But I think I proved I have a bit more tenacity and drive than a lot of people thought. Hopefully my next fight is sooner rather than later.”

“Disappointed obviously,” says Miranda. “This has been a really, really tough road for me this far. I feel like I have the tools to win a fight but I just haven’t put it together yet. I just wonder when I will…”
