Courtney Tailor versus Adrianne Palicki
Courtney Tailor, pride of Odds & Ends and currently the 9th ranked lightweight in the world by prestigious Tractorpull Magazine, steps up to face the big girls and she’s getting one of the biggest - the “Chin Checker” herself, Adrianne Palicki. . Weigh-in is respectful and drama free with hand shake between the fighters (translation: Jenny Mac was not there!).
Courtney: “I’m not saying I’m making full commitment to move up but I definitely have the frame to fight at welterweight and I’m one of if not the biggest hitter at lightweight. My punch is going to travel with me - no question. And yes, I know the girl across from me has made a career of putting people to sleep but Adrianne’s thirty six now and as far as I know the only one who’s undefeated in boxing is Father Time. I’m gonna get in .. do my work … and get out. I have nothing but respect for Adrianne Palicki - I mean, I saw the Righetti fight, okay? But we’ve been watching a lot of tape and we’ve found some weaknesses - but I can’t talk about those until AFTER the fight!”
Adrianne on Courtney: “Courtney Tailor is a comer - no doubt about it! She's already got some big name scalps to her credit and she’s a big hitter. But if there’s one thing I know about, it’s big hitters. Look, I made the jump from light to welter and my power traveled pretty well. Will hers? I guess we’ll see!”
Fight night: Scrubby McGee, Jenny Mac and Big Bad Gena Lee in Sceej corner for Palicki, Tailor seconded by Odds and Ends head trainer Kelly Carlson. Two blonde girls nodding at referees instructions … Palicki is noticeably bigger. Minor incident with McCarthy chirping during ring instructions with Kelly responding in kind.
Round 1: Cautious opener. Both girls straight up in classic boxer/puncher stances. Circling, jabbing, big right hands cocked. Adrianne looking to control with length but twice Courtney able to bob, slip the jab and get inside where she lets her hands go to the rib cage before the Chin Checker can clinch. A feeling out round but likely edge to Courtney.
Round 2: Both fighters out of corners more purposeful. Adrianne using that long jab to keep Courtney at bay. Courtney with side to side movement - she’s quicker and she knows it! Bobs under a jab, and looks to close to the body and is stunned by sneaky little uppercut from Palicki - little something cooked up by veteran trainer Scrubby McGee between rounds. Stops the younger blonde in her tracks. Fires back with a left hook … Palicki i parries with the gloves and digs her own left hook to Tailor’s liver. Model staggers back, half bent in gut shot pain. Palicki charging hard, looking to finish but rebuffed by a hard left right … left clanging jaw … right skipping off scalp. Courtney Tailor still dangerous but a big second for the Chin Checker.
Round 3: Big Adrianne pressing it - out of corner fast and jab - jab - overhand right rocks younger blonde back on her heels and she is hounded around the perimeter, kept on the defensive by taller opponent. Backed to the ropes, Courtney looks to fight off the cables, winging left hook but chin is clipped by Palicki right and her knees shimmy. She lunges forward to clinch, hanging on for dear life as referee tries to pull them apart. Palicki declining to struggle to free hands and burn energy, waiting on referee and burning clock. McCarthy on ring apron, screaming blue murder to ref “... that is ain’t a f8ckin’ wrestling match!”. Bell rings and Courtney Tailor survives round but taking a lot of punishment.
Round 4: Tailor keeping distance and Palicki content to jab. Adrianne with those long lone arms and legs is sneaky fast - looks like this loping baby giraffe and then she is on you. Jab knocking back head of Courtney Tailor. Mid round, Texan with some success slipping the jab, bobbing and banging tall girl’s body, thudding hook to the ribs. Most ringsiders call the round Palicki but Courtney has halted the rout!
Round 5: Rally by Courtney. Jabbing with the big girl, trying to overcome length with hand speed. Not head hunting … pancaking Palicki rack and banging straight up the middle. Rude awakening for Big Addie, who angrily lashes out with left hook - bad intentions but Courtney snakes neck back and lashes with her own right to Adrianne’s temple. Round to Courtney Tailor.
Round 6: Courtney Tailor - taking it to the former welterweight champion! Staying tight on defense, letting the Palicki laser skip over her or clipping to side, then closing and busy busy hands. Left right to the body. When Palicki looks to clench, Courtney gets cute inside with right uppercut which telescopes the big girl’s neck and puts a shimmy in her knees. Palicki stumbling back toward ropes, Tailor on her and Addie clinches! Courtney sensing this could be her chance, not waiting for referee break, wrestling had to free hands but is like she’s wrestling an octopus with those long arms. Finally referee breaks and Palicki uses veteran smarts to skip behind ref to get some distance. When Courtney comes on, Palicki throws a murderous right which misses and Tailor backs off! Grand Wizard at ringside to Neve Campbell "Still some fight in the big Girl Scout. If that right landed it would have knocked out a rhino!"
Round 7/8: Back and forth - wild action. Palicki roaring back in the seventh to dominate, repeatedly snapping the Texan’s head back with that long jab, occasionally grazing the chin with the straight right hand (but not the feared Diamond Cutter). And just when it appears Adrianne will close the show, here comes Courtney in the eighth - side to side movement confusing the bigger girl, working inside and banging body, bulling the Chin Checker to the ropes and pinning her, denying the clinch, fighting to keep arms free and chugging as she feels Palckii starting to sag under relentless body attack.
Round 9: Adrianne gets the “Yer blowin’ it, kid” speech from Scrubby McGee (and an earful of hysterics from Jenny Mac). Kelly Carlson urging Courtney “Finish her … now! But be careful ... she’s still dangerous!”. Texan out of her corner in half crouch - it worked last round - it should work again. Palicki skipping back trying to use legs and long jab to make points and keep Courtney at bay but shorter blonde doing a good job of slipping jab or taking it on forearms. Cuts ring and again forces lanky opponent to ropes. Double left hook to the body, second draw a groan and the big girl sags to her right. Courtney sets head on opponent’s chest and just lets her hands go … ribs, stomach, shoulder … whatever’s there … as weakening Chin Checker tries to tie her up. Late in the round, Courtney erupts out of crouch and tags Palicki with left hook to the jaw … and the Chin Checker is CHECKED! Legs give out and she is on her butt with back to ropes … Courtney Tailor throws arms in air in exultation as she is guided to neutral corner by referee. A rickety Palicki (will ANYONE forgive that word use!) to her feet at “six” .. referee gives her the “eight” count and then waives Courtney Tailor on. Courtney at big Addie like a train - buffeting the former champion for the final thirty seconds of the round - can’t find the off switch but has likely grabbed the lead of a very close bout going into the final.
Round 10: Kelly Carlson last word to Courtney Tailor before sending her out “Finish strong!” In the Sceej corner, Scrubby McGee whispers “Ya need to knock her out, Addie!”. Women meet center ring - Palicki with guard a little low, looking to protect those ribs, barbecued red courtesy of the blonde Texan. Courtney jabbing - getting points and then getting out. The Chin Checker heaving that big right hand like a sash weight, looking to land that Hammer of Thor but Tailor
nowhere to be found. Palicki tires late in the round and Courtney gets aggressive, closing and banging taller opponent - ribs, shoulders temple - and COURTNEY TAILOR IS DOWN! Adrianne Palicki slings back blindly with left hook that finds shorter blonde’s jaw and she is on her back, blinking up at the lights! Less than a minute to go … Tailor creakily to one knee at “five” … on her feet at “seven” … referee asks and she nods … dead game! Palicki with a boost … on her fast … buffeting her back to ropes … raining down the lefts and rights up to the bell … and this one will go to the cards!
Decision: Announcers calls for bell “Fight fans, before the decision, how about a round of applause for two great fighters. After ten rounds, Judge Vincent has it 6-3-1 for Tailor … Judge Sanders has it 6-4 for Palicki … and Judge Roseman has it 5 rounds Palicki … 5 rounds Tailor … a Tractorpull Special … this fight is a DRAW!
Post Fight: Adrianne and Courtney after ten hard fought rounds hear “draw” - both express disappointment but then Adrianne extends her hand to Courtney - there is a hand shake - mutual respect.
Jenny McCarthy from Sceej corner apoplectic at the announcement of the draw! "We were robbed! Adrianne - you go over there and you demand extra rounds! Knock this sl*t out - you should have done that already! Are you listening to me, you big dummy? Hey ... ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?!!"
And the tall typically soft spoken "kid sister" of Sceej Boxing turns to the smaller enraged blonde and utters the three words that shock the arena ...
"SHUT IT, McCARTHY!"
There is stunned silence for a long second. Then a tall beautiful blonde - Tess Valmore of Tractorpull - rises from her ringside seat ... begins a slow clap ... followed by the Grand Wizard, Neve Campbell, Cassie Scerbo of Front Street ... Miss Ginny of Chimera ... the GOAT Charlize Theron ... an entire contingent from Global Boxing Syndicate. Scrubby McGee takes Adrianne Palicki by the shoulder, claps her on the back and leads her back to the dressing room. The clapping mounts as Adrianne and Courtney head back to the dressing rooms - fans acknowledging a great effort by both fighters.
In the ring, Jenny McCarthy is wild eyed - almost rabid!
"What, you're feeling strong now? Step up ... the ring's free ... I'll take on any one of you ... (and at this point Gena Lee Nolin has grabbed her stalemate by the waist and is half dragging her down the ring steps ... down the aisle ... as the applause builds ) ... hell, I'll take on all of you! One at a time ... or all at once!"
Jenny's voice loud enough to be heard above the applause but fading, "This isn't over ... you've not heard the last of Mac the Knife ... I shall return ...."
