Leah Francis (Frankies Foxes) v Nicola Mimnagh (Unattached)

This is a fight Leah really wanted, and now she gets the chance to fight the experienced Scot, and, despite giving away a couple of inches in height, she’s confident of a win.

Round 1
Leah starts the round well, dancing, jabbing, keeping on the move, but Nicola is unfazed by her efforts, taking her time, and letting the blonde girl waste energy as the round progresses, and in the second half, she is finally closing in on the blonde. Leah is still trying to dance out of the way, but Nicola closes her down into a corner, and Leah is unable to avoid taking two, three of Nicola’s rangy left hooks, banging into her ribs, making the English girl grunt, and the brunette sets her up against the ropes in the final seconds, landing some solid chopping rights to Leah's chin as she hurts her at close range, and it’s not looking good for Leah, who must have expected Nicola to stand off more than this, the tall Scot quite happy to mix it with her.

Round 2
Leah’s looking a little quicker than Nicolaa as they restart, and she certainly rocks the brunette with a heavy jab and hook combination, pressing Nicola backwards, and she seems to like the situation with her girl against the ropes – but Nicola has other ideas, and she gives Leah two hard left hooks to the jaw, another to the ribs, and she’s turned the blonde around with those punches, has her backed into the ropes instead, and she’s beginning to lay into the English babe with some hefty bodyblows, Leah taking the punches well, but this must be sapping her energy, her guard beginning to drop already, and Nicola gets a couple of good, free hits into Leah’s face, the blonde girl looking hurt at this stage, dribbling blood from her nose as Nicola tries to tee off on her again, the Foxes girl somehow managing to slip clear, and she even lands a couple of reasonable punches of her own, takes a left hook to the jaw, and she’s covering up again at the bell, Nicola winning that round well.

Round 3
Already bloodied and bruised, Leah has to take a pair of good shots to the face as soon as the girls resume, and she’s getting backed into a corner now by Nicola, the Scot becoming more dominant, and she’s starting to rip into Leah with more hard punches, the blonde’s head getting thumped backwards, switches deftly to her body, hurts her with a left to the liver, but doesn’t like it when Leah comes back at her, the English girl almost in desperation turning defence into attack, and she lands three punches in very quick succession in Nicola’s face, the brunette having to cover for once, and Leah gives her a few big hits to the body, really laying into her for the first time, Nicola clearly hurt by these punches, and she gets her head lifted up by a short little uppercut, gets a lucky break as Leah misses with a right hook followup, and hits the blonde girl again, sweet punches to the face leaving their mark late in the round, but at last Leah’s got some decent action flowing in a close round.

Round 4
Leah’s face is red and she’s bruising up around her cheeks, but she takes the fight to Nicola, who now, gaining in confidence, stands back, lets the blonde come into range, then gives her a pair of jabs, a left hook, and watches Leah go down. Leah’s up at 5, looking sheepish, and takes more punishment, her right cheek bloodied, but she still tries to hit Nicola, the Scot snapping out her jab at Leah’s face again, and Leah’s taking quite a drubbing here, outclassed by the taller girl, Leah still coming forwards, but taking punches all the time, and looking the worse for wear after 4 bruising rounds

Round 5
Using her height and reach, Nicola is bossing Leah again, her gloves skimming off that swollen face, whilst she remains unmarked, and although Leah’s still working to get inside, she can’t really manage to hurt the Scot, who comes forward to trade – but Leah won’t worry about that, and she’s at last landing some good shots, wheeling away at Nicola’s body, although she’s taking as many as she lands, Nicola outboxing her, getting mobile, Leah’s nose now bleeding more heavily as the Scot slowly wears her down, pokes her backwards into a neutral corner, and she’s giving the blonde rather a lot of punches to her face, Leah looking shabby now, and the fight’s slipping away from her against the better boxer

Round 6
Nicola McLean is concerned for her girl, warning Leah that she’s 5 rounds down after 5 rounds, but Leah is such a tough cookie, and she walks through some sweet jabs to her battered face, just determined to get to Nicola’s body, Nicola shocked at the English girl’s resistance, as Leah drives Nicola backwards with solid bodyblows, and she hurts the taller girl with a ferocious left hook to her liver, Nicola squealing in pain from that savage punche, and the willowy Scot’s wilting, and staggering backwards, and looking ragged, and now Leah takes over, thudding her powerful punches into the brunette’s weakening and tiring body through to the bell, the blonde at last allowing herself a smile as she wins a round, and wins it large!

Round 7
Nicola looks less than keen as she gets off her stool for round 6, dispirited and exhausted after putting so much effort into the first five rounds, and Leah’s giving her quite a working over, banging big hooks into her body with left and right fists, and pretty soon the Scot’s gloves coming down, tears dribbling down her cheeks - she’s in trouble and she knows it, hardly able to stand, while Leah rips into her, and now gets caught across the jaw with Leah’s left hook, gets flattened, and counted out 

Result: Leah Francis knocked out Nicola Mimnagh in round 7

Nicola will look back on this fight, and wonder how she lost it! Well, she lost it because she ran out of gas, and tough girl Leah was able to wrench the fight out of her grasp, despite being soundly worked over for five consecutive rounds
