Intro: Two of the dark horses to win this years Diamond Boxing Tournament meet now, the BBU welterweight champion Damaris Lewis takes on the agile Romee Strijd here in Miami's Intercontinental Arena, which of these two models will come out on top.
So far in the tournament it is Damaris who got off to the better start, she defeated Danielle Herrington in a harder then some thought fight, Damaris winning in six rounds after being outboxed for periods by the less experienced opponent, Romee on the other hand gave tournament favourite Camille Kostek a hard fought eight rounds before being brutally knocked out.
The FCBA Network let both fighters put their thoughts going into this fight on camera, a studio set up with just a stool and a cameraman, first up Damaris sat on the seat in a navy blue dress holding the BBU welterweight title over her right shoulder.
"One bytch down, just another six to go before I get my hands on those diamond boxing gloves as my prize for simply being the best, that bytch Danielle didn't know what hit her till she was flat on her back counting the lights" Damaris starts as brash as ever.
Tapping her title belt on her shoulder, the beautiful black model continues "I already am the best in the BBU, after I dismantle you Romee in that ring and make you show me the respect I deserve, I hope you understand that you are not good enough to hunt with the big dogs like me, you're simply a poodle compared to me" laughing as she stands up, telling the camera "believe that bytch" then walking away with swagger.
Romee meanwhile is wearing an orange dress as she sits down, nodding as she says "well the first fight didn't go as I hoped" laughing to try to make light of the defeat, smiling as she looks relaxed.
"I came into that fight too tense, my coach Melanie (Brown) told me to keep focused on myself because she believes in me, I need to start believing in myself" adds the Dutch stunner as she gives is beaming.
She looks a little bit more serious as she turns her attention to her opponent, saying "oh and to Damaris, I know you like to be the bully of the division, think you are such tough sh*t, bullies don't scare me one bit because as my mother always taught me, when you stand up to one they hide away, really you are all bark and no bite" standing up and thanking the cameraman for filming her.
Fight night, out comes Damaris first with stablemate Danielle Lloyd again helping in her corner with their coaches, she bounces on her toes at the top of the aisle shadow boxing, then marches down the aisle looking in a mood to destroy her opponent.
The American is wearing all black with her sports bra, trunks, shoes and gloves, hair tied into a ponytail, she steps into the ring over in her corner, using Danielle's hands as punch pads, not being so soft in her punches to them, making Danielle shake her hands as Damaris's attention turns to the aisle.
With Romee now heading out with Mel behind her, the blonde beauty is blowing kisses to her supporters as even though she is on foreign soil, she has a big fan base as they cheer her on to the ring.
The Dutch fighter is wearing a white sports bra with pink trim, matching trunks and shoes, pink gloves, her hair is tied into a ponytail too, she climbs through the ropes into the ring, blowing a few kisses to the crowd before settling into her warm up routine.
Coming to the center of the ring, both women have a stern look on their face aimed at their opponent, neither backing down as the referee goes through their final instructions, Damaris telling Romee "you are going to make a nice little plaything after I beat your ass" making the referee step in as Strijd looks to move in to wipe the grin off Lewis's face.
Neither touches gloves with the other when prompted, no respect here as they return to their corners, the referee makes sure both women are ready, once they nod to show they are, the bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1: At the bell both are circling trading a mixture of jabs and one-two combos, Damaris looking for a big right hook early as Romee shows off her footwork to dodge out the way before landing a counter jab into the face.
After thirty seconds of this Damaris catches Romee with a left cross/straight combo as she steps forwards, looking to rough up the Dutch fighter early as she uses her left forearm across the breasts of Strijd to push her back while throwing in her right punch.
Romee manages to get away from the ropes with a little nudge herself, but she is finding it hard to keep Damaris on the outside, the BBU champion forcing the issue, making it a bit of a dogfight as Romee has to slug it out with the hard hitting Lewis.
Going into the final minute, Damaris misses with a big right hook that had evil intentions behind it, instead taking a double jab to the right side of her face as Strijd starts to get her rhythm finally, slamming in some crisp punches to the face of Damaris.
Who at the bell stares hard at Romee, the Lioness Club fighter living up to the stables name as she squares right up to Damaris, referee needing to nudge them apart before it kicks off between them as this has grudge fight written all over it.
Round 2: This time around Romee switches to boxing off her back foot, showing some good movement to dodge the power punches of Damaris before landing single punch counters, Mel smiling as she watches her fighter show off her silky smooth skills.
Damaris does manage to catch Romee with a left cross, just missing with the straight as Romee gets her right glove up in time, a left digs into Lewis's abs to make her step back with a scowl on her face, annoyed she hasn't been able to bully back the younger woman.
Who catches her with a beautifully timed double jab/straight after Damaris misses with a left hook, the speed of Strijd is allowing her to dodge and keep landing pinpoint punches back into her rivals face to mark it up.
As they are entering the final part of the round, Damaris starts to show her own class as she starts thinking about the problem, she times her punches better as she uses her jab more into the chest and abs of Romee to stop her being as mobile, landing overhand punches across the face.
When the bell rings Damaris barks at Danielle to wash her face down, seething as she knows that round left her by, Romee staring right back at her as the tension is clear to see for everyone.
Round 3: While Damaris prefers to be a puncher, she is showing she can use a jab as the fighters trade stiff jabs to beautiful faces, marks appearing on their faces as each is landing some perfect punches through guards.
A right lands to the body of Romee as Damaris sees her chance to change things up, slamming a left hook under her rivals ribs to make her grunt out as she drives her into the ropes, where Damaris opens up her elbows to strike Romee across the cheeks with two cross punches.
Trying to maul Romee, Damaris is getting clipped across the sides of her head as she buries her right just above the waistband of Strijd's trunks, forcing the Dutch fighter to clinch up to force the referee to step in to break them up.
For really the first time in the fight Romee looks subdued, Damaris coming after her hard as she looks to hurt Romee, make sure she knows who she is in the ring with as they she works the body more to stop Strijd being as mobile.
Seeing her chance late in the round, Romee surprises Damaris with a left hook to the side of her head as she dips down to work on the inside, then an uppercut straightens up the black beauty as Romee comes to life with a one-two punch square into Lewis's face.
The round comes to an end with Damaris wanting to get at Romee, with Romee shaking her bum at Damaris as she walks back to her corner, even though Damaris clearly won that round, it seems like Romee is firmly in her head.
Round 4: Damaris comes out again trying to make sure Romee knows she is in a fight, she misses though early on with a left hook as Romee dips under it, landing a jab/straight into the solar plexus of the American to make her groan out.
The movement of Romee is coming Damaris an issue, she is back to jabbing to try to get that read on her opponent, when she does now Romee is surprising her by knocking it aside to hammer in some hooks of her own to the jaw of the proud New Yorker.
Who is snarling as she stalks after Strijd, the younger woman taking a few more punches across her face but is still dodging mostly the bigger punches from her opponent, then slamming in a good selection of punches to stop Damaris being able to get set for them.
An overhand left is Romee's best punch of the fight so far as sweat flies off Damaris, she finds herself under fire now as she is backed into a corner, Damaris fires back when her back touches the turnbuckles to give the roaring crowd a grandstand finish to the round as the bell rings.
Returning to her corner, Damaris takes out her frustration on Danielle as she gives her a shove to the face before standing in her corner after kicking her stool over, Damaris is fuming that Romee isn't shrinking under her power as some others have.
Across the ring there is some redness around the cheeks of the Lioness but she looks calm as she listens to Mel, both looking pleased with how things are going as Damaris is giving them all the reasons to be excited by what's happening.
Round 5: Stomping out her corner with eyes full of fury, Damaris is getting right into the face of Romee, both slugging it out to the body, Damaris gets a warning off the referee when she uses her left elbow to dig into Romee's right breast.
Back they go at it as Romee gets back on her bike, landing more crisp punches into the face of Damaris, who could probably use a real coach right now to tell her to calm down, instead she is going all bull in a China shop to hurt Strijd.
She catches Romee with a straight as she sees her chance, a left cross slams across the face of her rival model as now on comes Damaris, hammering back Romee in shades of her first tournament fight against Herrington.
Pulling Damaris into a clinch, Romee gets a left forearm into the chin as Damaris tries to break free, the referee breaks them up, then gives Lewis a final warning before points come off, maybe not wanting to be the deciding factor if this close fight goes to points but needing to police Damaris as she looks in a rage.
They trade around the ring as Damaris is trying to not let Romee have time to breath, the crowd loving it as they cheer on both women, Romee gritting her gumshield as she doesn't want to be locked in a brawl with Lewis, thinking how to get out this pattern of standing to trade as the ropes are near her back.
At the bell the referee looks to risk their health by moving between the fighters, who are glistening with sweat, eyes intensely staring through their opponent as a few unflattering words are exchanged.
Damaris stays standing in her corner as Danielle does her job of patching up her fighter, across the ring Mel tells Romee to not get into a firefight with someone like this, Romee replying easier said then done, which Mel has to nod at as she shoves Romee's gumshield back in.
Round 6: Meeting around the center of the ring, Damaris continues to look for that big right hook, missing again as Romee ducks under it before landing a pinpoint right into the liver of the Garnets fighter, who groans out as her eyes shut.
That punch looks to have really hurt Damaris as Romee pounds her backwards with more body shots, ANOTHER RIGHT TO THE LIVER MAKES DAMARIS SHOVE ROMEE TO THE FACE BEFORE TURNING TO GO DOWN TO ALL FOURS!
Romee nods to her corner with a smile as Damaris can be heard gasping behind her, 1...2...3.. The gumshield comes out as Damaris tries to suck in air, 4...5...6.. She is punching the canvas with her right glove, 7...8...9...10 that's it! Stunningly Damaris is done!
Winner Romee Strijd KO Round 6
After: Romee Strijd showing with this knockout why she is a dangerous fighter in this tournament, she turns to mount the bottom ropes of the corner she is in, clenching her fists as she smiles at her supporters standing to shower her with applause and cheers for taking down such a tough opponent.
Hopping down so she can return to her corner, Romee embraces with Mel as she tells her "I knew I could beat that bytch" making Mel laugh before she replies that she knew that she could as well, maybe the biggest win of Romee's young career.
As this is going on Damaris is still in agony as she sits on her heels, shaking her head in disbelief that she lost, Danielle goes to use an ice pack but Damaris shoves her away, pulling off her right glove so she can grab the ice pack to hold it to her own body, as if to show she doesn't need any help.
Danielle just stares down at the canvas as if a puppy dog that did wrong, Damaris hissing "lucky... Bytch" as she looks at Romee, seeing the celebrations clearly thinking that show be her, not Romee with a big smile on her face.
Mustering up her strength, Damaris gets up and heads to the ropes, whether she likes it or not she needs help from her corner crew so that she can get out the ring, tossing her other glove to the floor as she is still furious, heading to the back with her eyes full of fire.
Romee doesn't care about Damaris as she turns her back on her while standing at the center of the ring, getting her hand raised as she makes it clear that Damaris is firmly in her rear view mirror, now to the future of more big fights ahead.
Posing for the cameras with her hands on her hips, a confident grin on her face as she has taken down for top fighter, now she needs to focus on making inroads towards the tournament title.
Climbing out the ring to head to the back, Romee puts her left arm around Mel's shoulders as they are both smiling warmly while looking ahead, celebrating on their mind in the locker room.
