4. Kate Beckinsale vs Elizabeth Banks

BEFORE:
“Let’s focus on Banks tonight, shall we? I’ve just about had enough talk of McCarthy,” Kate smirks from her seat at the table. “I think Jenny’s had enough of getting beat up, don’t you? Look at her throwing herself (and falling) to Upton, of all people.” Kate shakes her head in dismay. “I knew she was crazy before, but good god. That was practically suicidal.”

“I thought we were focusing on me?” Elizabeth Banks chimes in from the other end of the table, smiling sweetly.

“Oh, of course. Sorry. On the other hand, I fully respect Banks’ work on the big screen, and even more so for agreeing to this fight. She may not have the best record in the ring, but I’m eager to see what she can do tonight.”

“Oh, I can do plenty,” Elizabeth replies, drawing laughter from the crowd. “Honestly, I don’t want to get mixed up with this McCarthy feud, but to be doubly honest, no one likes the shrewd anyways. I’m happy to go ten rounds with Kate tonight, even if it boils down to a workout session for her. Think of it as good practice for the both of us.”

Ladies shake hands as they meet on stage, smiling and showing each other encouragement for the fight in a few hours. Back in the arena, the show of respect continues, with a bump of gloves in the ring after the referee runs through the rules. In their corners, Kate’s wearing a yellow sports bra, white-black striped bikini briefs for bottoms as she raises red gloves. Elizabeth still looks sensational for her age, white gloves raised to the chest in her red sports bra and black long tights. HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Bantamweight action!

ROUND 1:
I don’t think we’ve ever seen Kate this focused, building off a big win over McCarthy just last month as she flies back into action here tonight, poking at Elizabeth’s face between the arms and landing shots all over the face and body. Banks has her work cut out for her being ten years younger and far fewer fights in the ring, the blonde actress too slow and inexperienced to intercept those crisp jabs from Beckinsale as the Brit works her over at a comfortable range, sending a continuous amount of punishment inwards for the first two minutes. Banks yelping as another one-two combo stings her on the lips, but at least the American has the good sense to fire back, some of her own fists pounding on skin as she prevents a complete shutout in this opening round.

ROUND 2:
Still, one could say those punches were just part of her reflex actions as Banks struggles to make headway in the first minute. Kate slowly tightening the noose here as she presses inwards, pounding away at the arms and body with steady one-two combos, but this round, she’s facing a little more trouble as Banks keeps her distance and fires back the occasional bomb towards her. Kate grunting as Banks in particular goes after her body, that full decade of age going against her as Banks wisely tries to sap her neighbour of her stamina early on. It works in the second half of the fight, when Beckinsale groans as another hook catches her hard on the tummy with a biff and baff, sending her into a retreat. Banks may not have much experience but she’s packing some power in her smaller stature as she chases after Beckinsale in the remaining seconds, which earns her a narrow margin by the time the bell rings.

ROUND 3:
Never thought we’d say this but Beckinsale as the aggressor now makes sense. Here, however, she’s fending off more attacks from Banks and it’s not doing her any favours. Elizabeth seizing her advantage as she gives chase, explodes out of her corner at the bell, thinking Kate’s age must be catching up to her early. The American scores with powerful combinations to the arms, snagging the head with wild hooks thrown this way and that. Kate’s forced to cover up in the first minute but keeping her cool, clearly, finally turning the tide with a right cross delivered to the nose, another sent into the mouth to stop Elizabeth’s wild advance unchecked. Banks hurt, rallying at a distance, and the two women trade jabs for the rest of the round, with Beckinsale still struggling to keep up. Another close to Elizabeth this time, which is sure to embolden her further.

ROUND 4:
Kate, however, spoiling the blonde’s party with a clean swipe across her face early on when Banks attempted to rush in to finish her off. Bad news for Banks instead, as her attack is absorbed easily on the arms and abs, with Kate waiting for the opportune moment to bash a hook across her cheek, another couple of uppercuts dug into her body as Elizabeth goes grunting backwards, covering up, but powerless to stop the assault. Beckinsale back in control as she moves forward with purpose, slow and steady pounding shots to Elizabeth’s flanks as she almost pushes her foe into the ropes. All Banks can do is grunt and carry, run and hide for the remainder of the round, trying to stop Kate with multiple jabs to her head, but all of them lack venom for what’s to come.

ROUND 5:
Kate’s like a soldier with an objective as she marches straight for Banks at the bell, powering a right cross into her waiting arms to signal her intentions early! Banks lets out a grunt of shock and surprise, hastily covering up, reforming her guard as the next few power-shots land on her arms and body, driving her further back. Things aren’t looking good for the American as this time, she gets shoved right back into the ropes, and with nowhere else to run, a right swing connects with the side of the head, the force of which twists and turns her about before Banks HITS the ground on her side, a hail of swirling arms and legs for the first KNOCKDOWN of the fight! Kate celebrates with a nod and raised hand, a big smile on her face as she returns to the neutral corner. Kudos goes to Banks, however, who still is pushing herself upwards, not about to go down before the middle mark of this fight. She receives an obligatory shout of encouragement from the assembled crowd as she recovers by the count of 9, but to be honest, she doesn’t look like she can survive the next minute and a half more of this round. Referee gives her a shot as the bell resumes and HERE COMES KATE, beeline made for Banks as the Brit catches her with another overhand right to the temple, trapping her on the ropes with more and more swings to her body and arms, each attack reducing Banks further and further to a blubbering mess… and THAT’S IT - REF HAS SEEN ENOUGH, as he covers Elizabeth up from more damage! It’s OVER!!

Official Decision: Kate Beckinsale defeats Elizabeth Banks via TKO5!

AFTER:
Kate might not be getting into the Hall of Fame anytime soon, but hell is she going in in style, putting away a fellow Cougar within ten rounds! She kneels beside Banks in the immediate aftermath, checking on her condition. Banks just tired out as she collapsed onto her back once the referee signaled for the bell earlier. But at least there are a couple of smiles on both women's faces as they encourage each other going forward.

“I’m all ready to win this,” Kate later beams at reporters. I’m 2-1 now against Jenny, and all it takes is just one more fight to put her in her rightful place. I honestly can’t wait to get into the ring with her for the fourth and final time.”
