Natalie Dormer vs Raquel Pomplun
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Natalie Dormer
(39, 5’6, 11-13-1 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Raquel Pomplun
(33, 5’6, 1-3 FCBA, Latina Knockouts)

Pre-Fight: After a winning start to her time at her new stable, the League of Mighty Women, Natalie Dormer will be taking on Latina Knockouts’ Raquel Pomplun, who like her nickname had a rocky start to her FCBA career. Natalie is still trying to get back to .500 after her free agency woes, while Raquel tries to get back to winning ways after back to back losses.

Natalie goes first during the pre-fight press conference saying “I’m happy with how things are going right now. I have settled in my new stable, my training is going well and I avenged one of my early defeats last month. Now, I will be facing a younger opponent, which I should get used to at this point in my career I suppose, so it will be a nice challenge. I shouldn’t have too much trouble though, as my opponent doesn’t have much experience, especially in winning.” Natalie finishes her remarks with her usual smirk.

It looks like Raquel didn’t appreciate the last part as she tackles it right away. “I might not have much experience, but all my matches were against high-ranked opponents and I put up good fights. I could have had a better record if I went against lower-level opponents early on, but I guess that’s what I’m doing now with this fight. You’ll regret underestimating me and share the same fate with Laura (Vandervoort).” They end the pre-fight press conference with an intense stare down.

It is fight night and Natalie enters the arena with her coach Ali Landry besides her. Looks like she has improved her standing with the fans after the last match as she is getting a big cheer from them now. She waves at them with her famous smirk on her face as she walks towards the ring.

She is wearing a forest green sports bra and matching trunks with white boots and gloves, while her hair is in a ponytail.

Raquel also gets a big cheer from the fans as she makes her entrance with her coach Roselyn Sanchez besides her. She pumps her fists as she walks over to the ring and blows a kiss towards the fans before going through the ropes.

She is wearing a white sports bra with black trim and matching trunks with black gloves and boots, while her hair is in a loose ponytail.

Both fighters look focused as they listen to the referee’s instructions and then they touch gloves when they are prompted. They step back to their corners without losing their intense eye contact and we are now ready for the bell to start 10 rounds of bantamweight action.

Fight: Round 1: Raquel looks raring to go and she immediately rushes the center as the bell rings. Natalie steps forward as well, but she seems a bit taken aback by her opponent’s fierce approach, so she tries to stop her with a jab. That’s definitely not enough to slow Raquel’s advance as she powers through that blow and lands a double jab-straight combination. The Brit is having trouble matching the early pace of her opponent and ends up having to defend herself, while getting pushed back. Raquel goes for a one-two combo, which doesn’t get past Natalie’s guard, but it pushes her further back. Raquel uses this opportunity to switch levels and hit her opponent’s ribs with a big right hook. Natalie grunts and lowers her guard and as soon as she does that, she eats a straight right on the nose. She is now backed up to the ropes and Raquel goes back to working the body starting with a double jab-hook combo. Natalie finally puts an end to this early onslaught by clinching with her opponent.

Raquel goes back on attack after the referee separates them, but it looks like her momentum has been halted with that clinch. She stills ends up landing more punches for the remainder of the round and is the clear winner of it. Natalie looks shell-shocked and she needs to be careful if she doesn’t want to experience an early upset in this match.

Natalie hears it from Ali in between the rounds. “What was that!? We knew she would push the pace early on, but you have to be strategic to punish her aggressiveness, you can’t just stand there and take it. I don’t want to see a repeat of this, lure her into traps!”

Round 2: Raquel is on the attack once again, while Natalie starts with a more defensive approach this time around. As Raquel gets into range, Natalie fires off a double jab this time and after landing those, she immediately starts to circle around to throw her opponent off her track. As Raquel steps forward again, Natalie lands a single jab this time and as her opponent goes for a combination up top, she ducks and goes to the body with a couple of hooks. Starting to get frustrated, Raquel goes for a big swing, but Natalie dodges it and lands an overhand instead. That shot drives Raquel a couple steps back and gets her attention, but Natalie is not willing to commit to chasing her opponent just yet.

Natalie seems to be happy with being the counterpuncher this round, so she keeps her guard high and continues to tag her opponent with jabs and short combinations, while keeping her feet moving for the rest of the round. Raquel lands a few punches of her own, but she clearly looks frustrated with how things are going after a good start. Great adjustment by Natalie this round to win it big and to tie things up on the scorecard. Raquel’s inexperience showed in this round and it is now her turn to listen to her coach, who tells her to be more careful while on attack.

Round 3: Slower start to this round as both fighters are a bit more cautious now. They meet at the center, but they are both waiting for the other to act first. First half of the round passes with these quick exchanges from the outside, in which they both land a few punches, but nothing significant that could get their opponent in trouble.

As we move into the second half of the round, Raquel seems to be getting impatient with these exchanges that go nowhere, so she is now trying to force the issue. She cuts the angle and drives Natalie back with a one-two combo. Getting stuck to the corner, Natalie throws a double jab to keep her opponent on the bay, but it only slows Raquel momentarily, who then gets to the inside to land a few shovel hooks to the Brit’s body and goes back up top for a right hook. Natalie quickly clinches and pushes Raquel back towards the center, at which point the referee interferes to separate them. No more action for the rest of the round, which means that Raquel takes it with a slight point advantage.

Round 4: Raquel seems to be encouraged by how the last round went as she comes forward to attack right away, which puts Natalie back on defense. Raquel dictates the pace again as she pushes forward with one-two combos and some wild swings. She is the more active fighter for the first half of the round, but Natalie lands some good counter punches as well.

Raquel ducks under a straight and goes to the body with an uppercut. After two more jabs to the body, she goes up for a combo, but Natalie blocks them well. Frustrated, Raquel goes for a big swing to crush through her opponent’s defense, but Natalie ducks instead and lands a big overhand. Raquel looks hurt as she takes a few steps back and this time Natalie is willing to follow her as she closes the distance with a double jab-straight combo. Raquel’s defense is completely fallen apart as Natalie lands an uppercut and quickly follows it up with a left and a right hook that drops her opponent down! Natalie heads toward the neutral corner as the count begins. 1…2…3… Raquel lies down on her back as she tries to clear her head 4…5…6… she rolls to her side and tries to get up 7…8… she is all fours now, but she seems to be having trouble to push further up 9…10 she is still down on her knees and hands as she gets counted out!

Official Result: Winner via KO in round 4, Natalie Dormer!

Post-Fight: Natalie looks relieved as she survived the fierce attack of her opponent early on and was able to come out on top after four rounds. She raises her fists in celebration while the medical staff tends to Raquel. A few moments later she is back to her feet and Natalie comes over to check up on her. They might not become friends, but they show each other respect after the fight as they nod and bump fists.

After getting her hand raised by the referee, Natalie gives a little in-ring interview “I have to say, she is dangerous on the attack and her early pace got me in a bit of trouble, but I was able to turn things around with my technique as the fight went on. I’m two for two with my new stable now and I’m looking forward to the next challenge.”

As she said, Natalie started her time at her new stable with back-to-back wins, but she still has some proving to do after her struggles during free agency. As for Raquel, she made another impressive start, but couldn’t follow it up once again. If she could learn to sustain her early performance throughout the fight though, she could be a dangerous opponent.
