BEFORE:
Avril looks testy at the press conference just a day before, having scored an important pick-me-up win just two weeks ago against Bhad Bhabie, and tonight facing off against another young star in Joey King, who might be the logical next step in getting the singer’s confidence back to its natural levels following a few recent unfortunate fights that didn’t end well for the proud Canadian.

Avril is first to speak and looks relatively calm, playing with her hair as she addresses the press.
"I've never actually heard of Joey until about a month ago. Apparently she's been in the league since 2019? I guess she's just...not very good,” Avril throws some shade at her opponent, giggling. “I've heard she's very fit and all, whatever...working out doesn't make you a good fighter, fighting does. And she's had like...what? 10 fights? I'm probably the biggest fight of her career. I'm sure she's excited and all...but for me it’s just another night of schooling another aspiring nobody,” Avril says with a short laugh, parting her hair to her side and not even glancing at King from across the table.

Joey King has definitely been around land doing this boxing thing for much longer than Avril has made her out to be. Whilst King hasn’t had the most consistent fight schedule, she’s managed to beat girls like Becky G and Daisy Ridley, so there’s something there for the pundits to speculate on who might win this fight. For now, the young lady rolls her eyes at Avril’s comments, what with her being almost half the songstress’ age, but also having double the defiance.

“I mean, sure. Underestimate me, I’m here for it. Just going to make embarrassing you in the ring a little bit easier for me.” Joey shoots back at the blonde. “Fitness doesn’t win you fights by itself, no, but you should definitely try working out a bit, Av…You kinda look like you’ve been banned from the gym.” The brunette teases with a smirk. “Maybe you’d even last longer against all us new girls you keep losing to. I think Avril’s decline is obvious. I mean, just look at her - she’s as soft as ever and fighting complete newbies these days. PLUS she’s having a hard time putting them down, like she did with Bhad Bhabie. And when she ups her competition with girls like Ramirez, Bassinger and Emma Roberts, she gets her ass handed to her. I think I have all the advantages I need to beat her too. I plan to flatten her in five, but I can go all 10 rounds if I need to, I doubt she can.”

Avril’s reputation has surely taken a turn in this past year and a half, with some unfortunate defeats making it hard for the Doll to stay at the top of the rankings, all the while being outshined by her stable counterpart Emma Roberts who has gone to compete for the division title 3 times by now compared to Lavigne’s 0 attempts at the belt. Still, you have to give the Canadian singer due credit for not giving up. Staredown at the podium is intense as you’d get whenever Avril’s on the match card, the Doll continuing to mouth off to King, with the younger fighter just grinning back confidently.

Fight night rolls around 24 hours later, and Lavigne is first to make an entrance: pink and white fireworks fired off in various directions at her back, while her song "What The Hell" blasts through the arena. Avril’s wearing her standard black and pink sports bra and tights - colours matching well for her state-of-mind, her dirty blonde hair in a messy ponytail. She calmly strides to the ring accompanied by Carmen Electra and coach Kristanna Loken, smiling and high-fiving her fans along the way before climbing into the ring and starting to stretch in her corner as she awaits her much younger opponent.

Joey’s entrance is definitely more subdued, the 21 year old brunette striding into the arena with a grin, then striking a pose on the stage with two hands planted on her hips. The young actress got her dark hair in a bun, wearing a dark blue bikini top and hot denim shorts for this contest, complete with a pair of white gloves.

Referee calls the match to order and it looks like both ladies are already puttin’ their gloves up in respective corners. There goes the bell and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Flyweight action!

ROUND 1:
Compared to her last fight, Avril’s back to being Avril: she charges right out of the gate, using aggressive footwork and big swishes at Joey’s head bright and early to push the newcomer backwards. It’s clear that the Dollhouse Queen ain’t taking the challenger seriously as she tries to overwhelm King early and show her who’s boss. Joey however stays cool, taking blows to her face and body but keeps moving out of range of Avril’s bigger swings. Lavigne succeeds in her early mission though: showing the arena she’s back in business by bullying the youngster about the ring and barely taking any punishment in turn. Joey looks shocked and bothered by the time the bell rings, breathing heavily by the ropes, but having no choice but to cede the round to her opponent.

ROUND 2:
Avril continues her assault - all part of her strategy of dominating early and preventing the fight from going the distance. Traditionally, the Doll has had trouble keeping up with her younger counterparts, and so the straight combos to the arms and face continue for now, Lavigne lighting up Joey’s defences and poking constantly up towards her forehead and into the tummy. Joey’s fighting back with more ferocity this time, however, still spending most of the round blocking and weaving, but once in a while slamming a right hook back into Avril’s guard, hoping to shock the older woman into early retirement. Each time Avril takes one such hook to her body, she’s stunned to the spot for a couple of seconds, her mouth hanging open as though she’s been hit by a meteor, but then she quickly leaps back into the fray to continue her attack. Thus, Joey still loses this round overall, but at least she’s not taking the abuse lying down!

ROUND 3:
And here comes JOEY KING, flying first into the action with an overhand haymaker straight to Avril’s forehead - BANG! That punch would have taken its toll on any fighter, and Lavigne certainly felt the strength of her foe, her head immediately swerved backwards against her will, being more tired and slower than her youthful counterpart. Joey King stealing the show in the third, powering more straight hands and hooks into the arms, landing smack on Avril’s body and folding the older girl over with grunts. Lavigne’s trying to fight back in the second and third but BOY is she facing a completely different opponent here, with King ignoring most of the blonde’s attacks landing on her fit body and arms before catching the Doll with another big right hand to the belly, which sends Avril reeling again. THIS is the Joey King we wanted to see, and Avril’s ignorance of her opponent may lead to her own demise as she’s forced to cover up and scram for the remainder of the round, looking legitimately spooked by the younger girl’s vigor at the bell as the crowd cheers the brunette for a dominant round.

ROUND 4:
King on the prowl in the fourth, looking for wounded openings to exploit as she chases Avril down along the ropes, pop pop poppin’ hands into her arms and through them, trying to target the singer’s body for a knockdown. Lavigne’s still moving fast and defending as best as she can, avoiding getting stuck in one spot with her back to the ropes and for King to rush in to finish her off early - what an embarrassment THAT would be for the Dollhouse star. Avril manages to pop off a few fast hands of her own, leather gloves smacking into Joey’s lips on approach, harder swings buried into the young brunette’s rock hard abs to show her that she’s still in the fight, and fighting hard to survive, but fails to do any serious damage to the brunette. Round ends and Joey would definitely have liked to end the match right here and now, looks a little disappointed as she waves casually to her fans on her way back to the corner. Avril’s body language shows concern as the blonde waddles back to her corner with a frown on her face, the realization she’s fighting a dangerous young opponent finally hitting her perhaps.

ROUND 5:
Here Joey comes again, proud dukes up and loaded to fire on all cylinders, right arm already pulled back like a ballista waiting to nail Avril right on her noggin’, when BAM!! Avril is not having it! The Doll shoots a one-two combo right into Joey’s nose to disrupt the sequence, and King’s wild cross goes off-target completely! Girls end up BRAWLIN’ in the middle of the ring, hands swingin’ madly as they pummel each other to the sides of the tummy and face! Is this what Joey wants?! It can’t be! Avril with a sudden rage in her going ALL OUT here! Perhaps the cumulation of her recent disappointments has finally caused her to reach her breaking point! The Queen ROCKS King across the face with a loud snarl, even louder hook to the cheek, swiveling that pretty face to the side with a loud groan! King trying to fight back but is getting battered about by Avril’s sudden, all-out aggression: another ding! to King’s forehead further disorientates the poor girl, with Lavigne rushing in further and sinking her fists up into her body. King at her mercy here, trying to clinch up with the shoulders as she groans in desperation, but it’s no use! Avril SHOVES her way in before rocking her with a final headshot across the top of the bow, and DOWN KING GOES, absolutely GOBSMACKED and laid out on canvas! Referee does what he does best but King ain’t moving an inch from her position, lying sprawled out in the middle of the ring the entire way! Ref hits the count of 10 and WAVES the rest of this off! It’s OVER in shocking comeback fashion!

Official Decision: Avril Lavigne defeats Joey King via KO5!

AFTER:
Huge mistake from the younger fighter here costs her the fight! Brawling with Lavigne was the LAST thing she needed to do after exerting her dominance over the smaller blonde in the previous 2 rounds, and maybe that’s a lesson she had to learn going forward. Don’t play into your opponent’s game!

Avril the big winner tonight, but looks completely gassed out after that aggressive burst to end the fight. The blonde singer is bent over, hands on her knees and panting, trying to fix her breathing as the referee grabs her arm, lifting it up to declare her as the winner. Avril lets out a tired smile before making her way back to her corner to high five her team.

Joey’s team meanwhile attempting to revive the youngster, while Lavigne is busy waving and blowing kisses to her many elated fans. Things didn’t look promising for the Doll when Joey found her groove in the 3rd and 4th, but Avril came back strong, surprising both her opponent and the fans with an explosive finish, something she has been definitely known for throughout her career. Things might have ended differently with a bit more experience on Joey’s side, and we shudder to thinks how Avril would have faired in the later rounds against a younger fitter opponent if that 5th round brawl didn’t go her way, because the Doll looks absolutely exhausted here post-fight, having apparently spent ALL her stamina for that huge comeback ending in the fifth!

On her way out of the ring, Avril is swarmed by reporters asking for a few words from the winded blonde about how this fight ended. “I just…I totally fucked her up! It’s just what I do bitches.” Avril giggles. “She’s hella fast, and stronger than she seems, and she’s like…15 years younger…I had to finish her off before she drags me into the later rounds. I’m glad she was stupid enough to try to brawl with me. That didn’t go too well for you, right Joe?” Lavigne laughs, flipping Joey off from outside the ring before making her way backstage with yet another win added to her ever-growing record.
