Belen Rodriguez vs Ann-Kathrin Brommel (BBU Independent vs Black Eagle Boxing) (6-2, 6 KO vs 7-7, 6 KO) Results: BBU; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: Italian-based Argentine model Belen Rodriguez missed out on her lightweight title opportunity back in 2019 but can she stop Ann-Kathrin Brommel from earning her own shot at the 130 lbs straps? BBU TV's Denise van Outen reports the German model has been granted Miranda Kerr's word about the upcoming title defense next month IF she can take the hard-hitting Belen down tonight! Big hardware at stakes so one can understand why Black Eagles owner/coach Gina Wild looks so nervous out there! With the welterweight title picture unclear at the moment - and both Toni Garrn and Lorena Rae busy with the Victoria's Secret tournament over in America anyway - the German stable has found another way to enter the championship agenda!
Belen Rodriguez wears a light blue bikini set & black gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Ann-Kathrin Brommel wears a white bikini set & golden gloves. Long dark blonde hair tied in a curled ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.
Round 1: Belen jumps into an early jabbing charge and keeps Ann-Kathrin weaving around on her toes as she tries to smack her straight up the middle but lacks precision to put her under expected pressure while the German weathers the storm and fires back over the top to frustrate the older model with some solid head shots. The back & forth continues during the opening round but it's Brommel who finds better execution and forces Belen to clinch her into a stalemate. Both women still wrestle around for supremacy before Ann-K shoves her opponent off and beats her for another head-hunting flurry that backpedals the Argentine woman into mid-range safety in the closing stages of the round.
Round 2: Another promising start for Rodriguez who connects with the early head shots but lacks the big punch and lets Ann-Kathrin back in the slugging game down the stretch. Brommel realizes she's only one win away from the biggest opportunity of her boxing career so delivers an aggressive performance and outworks the older woman in heads up exchange before booming a right hand across Belen's nasal ridge. The Argentine power-hitter barks in anger but gets quickly overrun in the jabbing dispute and has to seek more respite in mid-range as the German blonde hassles her around the ring and traps on the turnbuckle in the closing stages again. Belen rips a couple of body shots to break Brommel's charge but loses the round outright and shakes her head in frustration at the bell.
Round 3: Ann-Kathrin keeps working upstairs and splits her opponent's high guard before a quick switch downstairs catches the older model by surprise. Belen soaks up a steady harpoon rush to the body and has to clinch the blonde but gets outmuscled out of her plans and eats a vicious uppercut on the jaw that triggers a hectic blast that drops her into desperate earmuff coverage on the ropes during the second minute. Brommel keeps bombing away and is maybe unlucky not to land that intended piledriver but she makes Rodriguez look sluggish to say the very least and scores additional blows to the exposed ribcage as Belen simply can't find her groove in this fight at all.
Round 4: Belen finally rocks the blonde's head with a quick overhand delivery and gets the better of the German in a back & forth jabbing rally during the opening minute. She lashes out at the briefly subdued opponent before a clash of heads slows the action down. However Belen quickly finds the success punching Brommel to the body and sends her into tactical retreat come the final minute which allows her to claim the first round on points according to Denise van Outen in the booth.
Round 5: Another slugging charge from Belen rocks Ann-Kathrin on both temples and this time the German slumps into head-hunting trouble almost straight away as the Argentine TV showgirl cranks up the jabbing volume and sprays punches all over her face! Huh! Ann-Kathrin trips over her own feet and remains trapped in the leather vacuum but Rodriguez struggles to land that big punch and has to rely on shear work rate alone to thump the younger woman onto the ropes. Belen runs away with the numbers and shakes off the clinching efforts while pounding away to the body and she keeps Brommel under wraps for remainder of the round even if she's unable to punish her in game-changing fashion. She lands one belter on the groin moments after the bell which makes Gina Wild extremely upset in the Eagles corner but the referee laughs off the German protests anyway!
Round 6: Belen comes right back at the suddenly vulnerable blonde who leaks more punches and struggles to stay in the slugging zone which only makes the TV showgirl more arrogant in her delivery. Rodriguez taunts Brommel while punching her in the stomach as both women quickly end up wrestling on the ropes... the action heats up when Ann-Kathrin lands an uppercut series on the chest and makes Belen scowl in pain before another clash of heads leads into verbal confrontation from both camps. Belen rips a left cross on the mouth to settle the dispute and cleans up more Germany midsection as she pulls even on the cards and leaves Brommel fuming at coach Wild during the break!
Round 7: Another back & forth struggle takes place in the center of the ring but both women lack precision to find the big punches and settle into working downstairs thereafter. That leads into immediate clinching though as the single punches provide little impact and Ann-Kathrin basically grabs Belen's arm and tries to trip her down onto the canvas! What gives, hun? Belen responds by headlocking the German foe and the ref has his hands full to separate the two vixens who grow visibly frustrated of each other. They eventually circle back to reload the batteries and the round is drawn as the Bethnal Green crowd isn't best pleased this fight has taken such a messy turn here in the seventh.
Round 8: Belen squares up to the fellow model but skims off the top of her forehead and gets caught off balance as Ann-Kathrin SMOKES her with a brutal hook from the inside! She shatters Belen's jaw and drops her on the heels before she beats the Argentine woman for a quick overhand swing and tears a small gash under the left eye. Rodriguez slumps into loud spasms and gets busted in the jugs as Brommel has a freeway to paradise and thumps more cleavage to hammer the older woman into a standstill. Belen tries to reach out from her heels but she goes nowhere and another booming overhand catches her on the chin moments later... DOWN SHE GOES!!! Huge roar inside York Hall as the proud Latina crashes flat on her back and descends into spasms of defeat as she simply cannot stay off the boards.. Ann-Kathrin struts back to coach Wild and lets out a joyful scream when the ref waves off the count at seven since Belen remains in dead meat demise down on the canvas! KO8 Ann-Kathrin Brommel!!!!
AFTER: This was a hard-fought victory for the German WAG but she will get her prize next month as she becomes the official BBU lightweight title challenger - confirmed by Green & Gold's Sarah Cumming who has first-hand access to Miranda Kerr's match-making plans. "Woo! I know my time will come! No more Jessica Michibatas and Yasmin Verheijens for me anymore! I'm going prime time, baby! The Black Eagles sooo deserve this opportunity! I will do my best to become the first BBU champion in the stable's history! Wish me luck next month!", Ann-Kathrin can barely hide her joy further boosted by the sight of her tonight's opponent being escorted down the aisle in visibly shaken up fashion!
Official Result: Ann-Kathrin Brommel def. Belen Rodriguez KO8.
