Demi Lovato (Lookout!) vs Daisy Ridley (Knockout Babes) result:Lookout/words:simgrrl
TALE OF THE TAPE Lovato: 29yo, 5'3", 121#, 34B-27-36. FCBA Bantam Champ 2019. Career: 55-32-1 w/53 KOs! Ridley: 30yo, 5'7", 121#, 32A-23-33. BBU Bantam Champ 2019. Career: 28-13-0 w/26 KOs.
Before: Both women's success in BBU (Daisy 12-2 and Demi 8-4) adds some luster to their lifetime stats, but there's no denying their quality as each held a bantam title at one time in her career. Despite an apparent age difference, Daisy's just 4 months older. Maybe she should've waited until the fall so they'd look like they were the same age!
Demi Lovato wrote the book on staying strong (literally). She published her New York Best Seller, 'Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year' in 2013 and it's been a hot seller worldwide, thanks in part to her high visibility as a singer, songwriter and actress.
Demi's had issues with her body since childhood and she now pays a lot of attention to staying fit, following a strict workout regime which includes strength training and cardio six days a week and rest on Sunday. Demi credites boxing with helping her to stay active and in shape.
Ridley also credits boxing with her success as an action movie heroine. "Since I started training with the company I train with now, I found it’s all about strength, mobility, and stability." Holding a green belt in kickboxing, she's used training to maintain her slender body, focusing on improving her strength while retaining full mobility and stability. These are the key rules for her and her stable (Knockout Babes) has supported her fully in her training.
A brief disagreement arose prefight when both fighters showed up wearing blue gloves. Naturally, in an attempt to psyche the other's fighter, both managers "insisted" the other should change her gloves. The two trainers nearly came to blows themselves before the referee intervened to suggest BOTH women swap out their gloves.
That's when Jennifer O'Dell, Ridley's trainer, played trump! "Daisy always wears blue, it's the only color gloves we carry." She said, adding with a grin, "They're specially chosen to match her other gear." Indeed, Daisy was decked out in an electric blue bandeau bikini and matching shoes. Everyone at ringside was clearly looking forward to seeing how she'd keep her (strapless) top in place!
Lovato's trainer, Julie Benz, grudgingly, agreed to have "my girl" change to white gloves - which didn't clash with her black sports bra with white trim, matching trunks, and black shoes. To the sound of good natured (?) banter from the audience, both girls returned to their corners and the bout began. * * * * During Rd 1: Both ex-champions cautious in the opening minute, feeling one another out as they circle with Lovato pushing forward as she slides diagonally to her right, trying to nudge Ridley into moving to her right - taking away Daisy's reknown jab, one she's used to control opponents in just about every fight that she's won. Demi - ever aggressive - hooks the taller woman's body as she shuffles forward. Daisy pumps her jab steadily in Demi's face, using it to set up her right whenever Lovato drops the left - as she's wont to do on occasion - Ridley taking advantage. Lovato shaking off Ridley's rights - they don't seem to bother the shorter brunette as much as Demi's body shots hurt Ridley! Daisy stops circling after a punishing body shot, then reverses direction to expose a different area of her long, lean, torso to Demi's thumping body attack. Ridley always on her toes, never standing still - unlike Lovato who will crouch to throw a punch and remain in place, giving Ridley an easy target for her counter left hands. Neither fighter grabbing the momentum in a back-and-forth opening round, but one with little feeling out as each seems intent on ending this one as quickly as possible. Round, therefore, scored close in Demi's favor thanks to her showing more aggression.
Rd 2: Things quickly heat up in the second as Lovato bores straight into Daisy with a steady, pounding, body attack that has Daisy reeling back on her heels in the opening seconds! Contrast of styles couldn't be more obvious this round. Lovato looking to turn the fight into a brawl - if she could sign to have all of her fights in a phone booth she'd be in pugistic heaven! Ridley the exact opposite, a wide expanse of lush English meadow would still be too confining for leggy Daisy who likes to 'shoot and scoot' behind a stiff jab and straight right combo, then disappear like a puff of smoke in a windstorm. Demi, expressive, her face betraying her frustration with the elusive Ridley's failure to stand in front of her and make herself an easy target. Demi, suffering perhaps from boxings version of 'a Pretty Woman syndrome' unaccustomed to chasing after someone instead of being pursued by her suitors. Ridley, ever the tease, letting Demi get a little taste of her body before pulling it away and then holding it just out of reach. This round all about tactics with Demi playing bull to Daisy's matador. Daisy not only controlling the narrative but leading Lovato around by the nose, stunning the shorter fighter with solid right hands as Demi lunges off balance or overextends as she reaches for the prize Daisy keeps teasing her with by keeping just out of her reach. Daisy breezes wide as Demi's frustration grows more every minute.
Rd 3: (between) Julie Benz earns her pay between rounds, in Demi's ruddy-cheeked face giving her 'what for' as Lovato pouts on her stool. Julie's trained, and trained with, her share of divas and teases in FCBA (Charlize Theron, Cat Bell, Penelope Cruz, Reese Weatherspoon and Candice Swanepoel at Ginny's Academy, then Yvonne Strahovski, Kate Upton and Missy Peregrym at Lookout- to name a few of many). She's seen Ridley's "give 'em a taste and take it away" routine more times than she can count. Benz, kicking herself for not anticpating this prepping Demi, makes up for lost time.
The bell for the fourth round finds Lovato rearin' and ready to go! Demi again charges out to attack Daisy but this time she rumbles right through Daisy's jab to smash into Ridley chest to chest! Demi wraps Daisy in a bearhug, sweeps her off her feet and slams her into the corner. The ref hurries to break them up, but Lovato's close at hand when he steps away and hops on Daisy like hungry fox on a chicken! Lovato chug-chug-chugging with both fists to Ridley's taut abs but even a fighter in the terrific condition of Ridley can only take so much. Daisy can't fight her way out of the corner as Demi keeps her trapped using her wide body and leaning on Daisy as she pumps punches to the English Rose's belly with both fists. Daisy blocking desperately with her elbows and gloves, but can only get off a few uppercuts that don't deter Demi in the least. Ridley rolling her shoulders, twisting and turning until - finally - the referee steps in (to the delight of fans who'd began to boo and call for some intervention). This time, the ref ensures Ridley has a pathway to freedom and she scampers out into the wide open spaces of mid-ring before Lovato can rein her in. With room to roam, Ridley retreats behind that wonderful jabbing left of hers, buying time but not doing anything to change Lovato's mind about closing the distance. The final minute is fought at tight quarters, with Ridley struggling to keep her back off the ropes while Demi is determined to keep the winsome willowy Brit beauty trapped on the twine, taking a licking to the body while - thankfully - managing to keep her head on her shoulders despite several cuffing blows that bring brief snippets of excitement to the jaded fans in the expensive front row seats. At the bell, Demi Lovato raises her fists, pumping them in the air as she dances away to her corner while Daisy heaves a relieved sigh and takes a seat on her stool. Big offensive show by Demi more than enough to garner the judges reward as the takes the 3rd round wide.
Rd 4: (between) Now, it's Jennifer O'Dell's turn to buck up her fighter, and she does. By the end of the short break, Ridley's on her feet pawing at the canvas, eager to get back to work.
Daisy jogs out at the bell, quickly turning sideways to jog around Lovato who's slow off the mark. Demi's effort in the last round left her a bit winded still. She's eager to get her hands on Ridley's slender body again, but in her haste, she gave Daisy the opening she'd been waiting for. Ridley's left hook took Demi by surprise and before she recovered a right stunned her. Lovato's thick body rippled as Daisy's second left hook buried itself in her gut. Demi bending forward, fell into Daisy and wrapped her arms around Ridley's waist, turning her face to the side, her right cheek pressed to the swell of Daisy's left breast. Ridley slammed her right low into Demi's belly and Lovato expelled a chuff of air into the shallow valley between Ridley's firm breasts. Demi pawed her left hand against Daisy's midsection, groping blindly for Ridley's right forearm to grab and hold it to keep it from punishing her again. They swayed as two lovers embracing, Demi's short, thick legs digging into the canvas, slowly forcing Daisy's hips back until her tight butt was wedged between the two lower ropes. Daisy reached up to cuff Demi's head with her left hand; the referee slapped her hand down. She did it again, harder this time. The referee stepped in to break them. Daisy backpedaled along the ropes, then circled out into the open where she popped Demi in the face with two quick jabs. Lovato missed a wild right. Ridley jabbed her twice more in the face, the second one starting a ribbon of blood running from Demi's nose. Wiping her face with the back of her white glove, Lovato saw blood and instantly unleashed a wild flurry of punches at Ridley who retreated quickly, her hands up to shield her face. Demi lowered her shoulder and bull rushed Daisy, blocking her back to the ropes, then drove her right fist deep into Ridley's belly, knocking the breath out of her. Lovato was winding up to punch again when the bell rang and the referee grabbed her from behind. Daisy Ridley's sustained offensive for most of the round convinced the judges to award her the points by a wide margin; tying it at 2 rounds per, but Ridley having a slight points edge.
Rd 5: (between) O'Dell working in Ridley's corner helping Daisy recover from Demi's last second punch into her belly. Daisy was struggling to get her breath and Jennifer was tugging at Daisy's bottom trying to reinflate her lungs when the warning buzzer sounded.
Julie Benz and Demi had realized Daisy was in distress and Lovato was already walking out of her corner seconds before the bell. Late to rise, Ridley was only steps from her corner when Demi arrived with a full head of steam and slammed a straight left flush onto Daisy's nose, smashing it flat! Daisy is slammed back against the turnbuckle right above Jennfier O'Dell in her own corner. Lovato puts her forehead on Ridley's chest and starts to hammer her belly with punch after punch after punch. Ridley's arms are draped over Demis' shoulders, unable to protect herself. Three...four...five more times Demi buries her fists in the slender Brit's belly, then Daisy crumples to the mat. The referee scrambles in to put his arm across Demi's chest and push her back, then turns to count over Daisy who's on her knees, her hands gripping the ropes on either side of the corner as Jennifer O'Dell screams, "GET UP DAMM U! GIT THE HELL UP!" Dramatically, Daisy slowly struggles to pull herself to one knee, then rises in time to beat the count. The referee checks her and, after Daisy nods, and insists through her mouthguard, "Mumm oh kaaa...." he allows the fight to resume. Demi is quick to take advantage of a damaged opponent and targets Ridley's midsection, an area long suspected of being a weakness - and one many previous opponents attacked with success. A left hook pancakes Daisy's right breast to divert her attention from the right hook on its way to a spot just above her waistband below her left elbow. Daisy's left knee buckles and she extends her left to paw futilely at Demi's grinning face as Lovato reloads her right hand again. Another powerful Lovato right to Daisy's midsection sends the beautiful Brit stutter-stepping right, directly into the path of a left hook flush on her belly button! Daisy loses her mouthpiece as air explodes from her gaping mouth and her knees unhinge. Only being so close to the ropes keeps her from falling as she sits back onto the middle rope, her head bowed, her face flushed bright red. Demi is winding up for another blockbuster right when the referee wraps her in his arms and pulls her away, then waves off the rest of the fight. The winner, Demi Lovato by a stunning TKO5!
After: Demi Lovato is standing in her corner getting her gloves cut off; her back to the ring wher Daisy Ridley is being consoled in the Knockout Babes corner. Demi doesn't see Ridley get off her stool and start slowly across the ring toward her. Julie Benz looks up, sees Daisy and frowns.
"Here comes trouble," Julie hissed in warning to her fighter.
Lovato glances back and grinned, "Good. I haven't had enough of that English Puddin't. I'll enjoy helping myself to seconds," she chuckled; turned around, planted both hands on her hip, then inhaled deeply, expanding her chest to push her modest bosom into greater prominence. Daisy's eyes widened at the sight, but she stubbornly kept walking; her left hand holding her stomach, her face wincing in pain with each step.
"You looking for trouble?" Demi sneered. "Or chu' come to kiss my ass an' apologize for not giving me a better fight?"
Daisy blushed, shook her head, then offered her hand. "I came to shake your hand and congratulate you," she said. "That's all. No ass kissing and damn sure no apology. You got a good, fair fight... that's all you deserve or should expect."
"HEY GIRLS!" Demi called to the members of Lookout! Boxing sitting at ringside. "This hunka English Toffee refused to kiss my ass and apologize! Ya think I oughta bend her over my knee and give her a stuck-up English ass a 'proper British smacking'?"
Her stablemates laughed as Daisy's face flushed even darker red. "You'll regret it if you try, Daisy hissed, backing slowly away from Demi. "You and I will meet again and, next time, you won't be the one standing at the end. So I'd be careful what you say from now on!"
Then, before Lovato could say, or do, anything, Ridley spun and walked (hurriedly) back to her corner, climbed out through the ropes and - supported by Julie Benz at her side - hobbled back to the locker room.
