Elizabeth Gillies vs. Priyanka Chopra (Results: Lookout! Words: Wiz)
BEFORE:
Two of the more aggressive, physical bantams in the FCBA squaring off in this one, and, if anyone thinks either of these ladies is going to play against type, well. "I'll say the same thing I often say before these fights," says Priyanka with a smile. "She's not a bad fighter. But, I'm just too strong and too physical for her. Now. She may not believe that. But, By the end of this fight, she absolutely WILL."
"Priyanka," says Lizzie with a smile, "Has it ALL wrong. ONE of is is too strong and physical for the other. But. I'm the ONE and she's the OTHER."
ROUND ONE:
Anybody gonna throw a curveball here? Hello? Anybody? No? Just the heat then? Yeah. Just the heat. The fighters pretty much meet in the middle of the ring and begin trading. Bombs. Bombs is what they're trading and BOOM! Right hook, GILLIES and Priyanka is HURT! Chopra all wobbly-butt about a minute into this thing, and Gillies immediately pouring on the fire, looking for a shocking KO1 against a Top Ten bantam. Big Choppy in DEEP trouble, driven to the ropes and given a thorough pounding as the referee looks in closely. Sturdy legs hold Priyanka up, and she does juuussttt enough to keep the referee at bay, as Lizzie piles up the punishment and the points. When the bell finally sounds, Chopra's got blood trickling from her nose and Gillies has taken the points wide to lead 10-9.
ROUND TWO:
Lizzie pouring forward and pouring fire on her wobbly rival. Chopra's legs still nowhere near back, and Gillies taking advantage, lining up the older woman and punishing her with barrage after barrage of heavy shot. Ref keeping a close eye on things, as Chopra's clearly getting a beating...BOOM! Right hand, Lizzie and DOWN GOES PRIYANKA! Chopra dropped to her back by a straight right hand and Gillies fairly DANCES to a neutral corner to watch as the ref counts down on her rival, but, no joy for Gillies, at least not yet, as Chopra gets to her feet at eight and takes the mandatory. And, ON COMES LIZZIE! She's committing on absolutely everything, battering her rival back into the ropes and hammering her right up to the bell. Again, Priyanka survives, but a 10-8 second pushes Gillies' lead to 20-17.
ROUND THREE:
Gillies continuing the all out assault, determined to take Chopra out of there. Perhaps, a little TOO determinend. BOOM! Right hand counter, Priyanka and Lizzie is HURT! Gillies absolutely EATS a well-placed right, and only the fact that Chopra's legs aren't all the way back keeps the American upright, but, she's plenty wobbly as Chopra goes over to the offensive and begins backing her up with flurry after flurry of hard shot. Priyanka playing it both safe and smart, as she's still shaking the cobwebs, but, she's in complete control, piling up the points all while looking to do the same thing Gillies set out to do at the beginning of the round, FINISH. But, despite being backed to the ropes a couple of times, Lizzie manages to ride it out. At the bell, though, Chopra's on the board, having grabbed the round wide to cut Lizzie's lead to 29-27.
ROUND FOUR:
Chopra continuing to advance behind the left jab. Gillies still a bit wobbly, so she's ceding canvas, countering in spots, engaging in a fighting retreat. Priyanka getting more aggressive as the round goes on, looking to press her advantage before it's too late. BOOM! Right hand, CHOPRA and Lizzie is sent stumbling backward and DROPPED BY A RIGHT HOOK! Gillies crashes to her right side as the Indian beauty stomps to a neutral corner. Ref counting down on Gillies, who pushes to hands and knees at four, looks toward the ropes and begins crawling. She gets there at seven, starts pulling herself up....only to lose her grip and COLLAPSE TO HER BACK at nine! It's OVER! Gillies can't beat the count and it's OVER! And your winner by KO4 in comeback fashion is Priyanka Chopra!
AFTER:
Chopra plenty scuffed, but able to do plenty of smiling in the post-fight. "I TOLD you that if it came down to who was stronger and more physical, Lizzie was going to come off second best. But, that's nothing against her. It's just the way it is, no matter WHICH bantam I get in with. None of them are going to stand up to an onslaught from ME. NONE of them."
