Natalie: 38 YO, 5’6 (1.68 m), 14-14-1, 11 KO since 2013, League of Mighty Women
Before: “Yes, I lost to Bellisario in 2013,” says Natalie Dormer, “and I am glad for the chance to even things up. And they will be evened up.”
“I am always willing to give a defeated opponent another chance. She lost TKO3 last time. We’ll see if she can do any better this time,” Troian replies coolly..
“Oh, you can count that!” retorts Natalie, “and I do not appreciate being your tone of voice.”
“I apologize for offending you—I had no idea you were that sensitive about losing to me,” Troian purred.
Natalie sniffed and snapped: “You’ll be plenty sensitive when I am done with you.”
“I will consider myself forewarned,” Troian said coolly. “—and you should too.”
The chilly air hangs over the pair as they meet in the ring on the night of the PPV. Troian wearing a light purple one piece swimsuit. Dark purple boots and gloves with light purple laces. Hair pulled back in battle braid. Natalie in a blue trimmed with black one piece. Blue boots and gloves with black laces. Blonde hair in battle braid. Two are correct, but cold towards one another as the referee drones through the instructions. Then the gloves “tap” becomes a loud SMACK! Troian and Nat exchange hostile expressions and go to their corners. The bell rings…
R1: Natalie moves to the attack with a brisk series of jabs into Troian’s face. Troian tries to counter to Natalie’s head, but Natalie, bobbing and weaving, proves to be an elusive target. Then Natalie steps up her pace by hooking hard into Troian’s lanky torso. Abs and ribs are given special attention by Natalie and she’s got Troian looking uncomfortable as the steady body thumping goes on and on. Troian continues to try to drive Natalie back with head shots. She does finally manage to score late, but gets whacked to the chin by a Dormer uppercut and stumbles back with her head ringing. Natalie even adds some shots to the side of Troian’s head to bring the round to a close. Round goes to Natalie Dormer by a wide margin.
R2: Troian now on the attack as she presses Natalie in close. Natalie getting jammed up as Troian crowds in, using hooks to tear into Natalie’s torso. Natalie pushed back by the force of Troi’s attack, but then Natalie seems to adjust to fighting at toe-to=toe range and she’s finding familiar territory as she works over Troian to the body once again. Troian must be feeling the impacts, but she doggedly hangs in and keeps her leather crunching into Natalie ribcage and belly. They are just grinding it out, elbows moving in and out like pistons on a steam engine. Smacks of leather against sweaty flesh clearly audible by ringsiders. They battle down to the bell and only stop when it sounds. Plenty of punching action, but the judges rule it was all even in the end: round ruled a DRAW. Neither fighter looks happy about that.
R3: Natalie and Troian shift to trading shots to the head as the third round gets started. Troian trying to circle as she pops in straight rights and lefts to strike at the sides of Natalie’s head. Natalie countercircling and she seems to be going after Troian to the chin and jaw. Both doing a decent job of blocking or blunting these blows. Then Troian ducks down and strikes with a big right hook to Natalie’s belly. Natalie doubles up with a gasp and then Troian rips ONE! TWO THREE! Successive uppercuts to Natalie’s chin. Natalie teeters backwards, arms dropping as Troian adds a right to the jaw. DOWN GOES NATALIE! Natalie topples onto her side and then rolls on her back, arms at her sides and her eyes empty. Troian heads for the neutral corner while the referee steps in and begins to count. Natalie finally stiring, propping herself up on her elbows and looking around woozily.
“EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN!..YOU’RE OUT!”
THE WINNER TROIAN BELLISARIO DEFEATS NATALIE DORMER KO3!
After: “I said I would do it to her again and I did. I think that very neatly sums up this fight,” a cheerful Troian says after the fight. “I suppose if she is foolish enough to want a third fight, I can do it to her again. Who knows, she may even make it out the third round before I cave the roof in on her.”
Natalie Dormer not at all cheerful and in no mood to talk to the press. “Natty was really disappointed in this fight,” confines a LMW source, “but we’ll study it with her and we’ll find out what lessons can be learned.”
(“Lesson #1: Don’t fight Troian Bellidario,” cracks Troian when she is told of the remark, though this is greeted with stony silence from the LMW camp).
Not much you can say about this fight: Troian Bellisario came, she saw and she put Natalie Dormer on the canvas in 3. Natalie did win R1 and fought Troian to a draw in R2, but the PLP veteran got to her chin in the 3rd and that was it. A painful loss for Natalie, but an encouraging one for Troian and her fans as they look to see what happens next for her.
