Before: “I am fine,” Mary assures press and public, “people should know by now that Mary Elizabeth Winstead is tough and I bounce back from a fight. So I don’t want any more talk about me and Taylor Swift. I am focusing on THIS fight and defending my title against Eiza. Eiza’s won 5 of her last 6 fights plus I have never fought her before. So Eiza is an unknown opponent except for tape, of course, but you can’t really know a fighter until you’ve faced her in the ring. But that’s Eiza’s problem, too, so I’m not too worried about that. I just want fight a good fight and hold on the title belt.”

Says Eiza Gonazalez: “This is my first title shot and very excited about it. I’ll be facing a really tough opponent in Mary Winstead, but I have been fighting so well lately that I believe I can win this fight. I think the title belt would look very nice around my waist.”

“But it looks even better around mine,” Mary interjects cheerfully.

Fighters meet again in on Fight Night, Mary is in dark blue bikini with matching boots and gloves. Short hair wetted down. Eiza in a light blue bikini with bright blue gloves and boots. Eiza’s dark hair pulled back in a battle braid. The ring instructions are covered promptly. Gloves are tapped. Mary and Eiza go to their corners. The bell rings…

R1: The fighters move out of their corners towards the center of the ring. Eiza working hard, testing Mary to the body with fast jabs and then digging hooks. MEW feeling the impacts, but hangs in close and starts countering Eiza to the body. The two whack away ribs and abs with a occasion whack to the juggs. Two are circling as they blaze away. Then Eiza surprises Mary with an overhand right to the head. Solid blow that causes Mary to stutter step back and then Euza follows with a blaze of hooks at keep Mary backing up. Mary manages to counter with body hooks of her own, but Eiza outworking just enough to win the round on the judges’ cards after the bell.

R2: Mary attacks Eiza early with sharp rights and lefts off the jaw and cheekbones. Eiza trying to counter with punches of her own aimed at Mary’s head, but Mary moving her upper body enough to make herself a hard target. Eiza not lading her punches squarely while Mary is and she get Eiza’s face started to get shiny red with swellings. Eiza finally goes defensive, gloves up around her head and Mary now works Eiza to the body. Eiza backing away, but trying to stay clear of ropes MEW keeping on the pressure to the bell and she wins the round wide.

R3: Eiza still has gloves high but she’s moving around better and stabbing out a sharp jab to Mary’s ribs. MEW concentrates on Eiza’s ribs , stomach and breasts. Mary appears to be ignoring the sting in her ribs from Eiza’s counters to keep pressure on Eiza’s torso. However Eiza upping her punch rate in the latter half of the fight and it is mainly to Mary’s ribs. Mary starting to slow down as the throb in her ribcage grows stronger and stronger, but Mary digging in with her hooks and driving Eiza back as the round comes to a close. Mary the narrow winner of the round.

R4: Eiza mobility looking even better in this round. She’s dancing around MEW, firing away steadily at her head, jaw and cheek. Mary looking frustrated at not being able to land solid punches against Eiza. Mary finally trying to storm in against Eiza, but runs into a defensive barrage from the Mexican actress/singer. Mary hit hard in the face, jaw and chin and the leather storm stalls her attack. Then Eiza hooks Mary hard to the body and MEW starts falling back. Mary struggling to counter as Eiza pounds away at her head and body to the bell. Eiza scores a wide win this round.

R5: Mary comes charging out for the new round. She looks to be out to pat Eiza back for that beating she dished out in R4. However, Eiza can see her coming and coolly lunges forward while Mary is pulling back her right. It is Eiza’s right hand that connects off the side of Mary’s chin with power to spin MEW’s head around. Mary staggers away and Eiza moves with her. Eiza able to smack Mary hard under the chin, then slap around her jaw with a left/right combo before MEW can cover up. Mary is legs shaking as Eiza starts driving those hooks into Mary’s midsection. Mary stumbling back, bent over and just trying to protect her head. Eiza punching away until she’s driven Mary into the ropes. MEW sits huddled on the ropes as Eiza lashes those ribs, abs and breasts. Mary is gasping for air, but somehow her trembling legs don’t give way and she is still standing (more or less) at the bell. Eiza steps back and draws a forearm across her sweaty brow as she studies the gray-faced champion as she peels herself off the ropes. However Mary looks Eiza in the eyes and is heard to whisper: “It’s not over yet.” Eiza smiles grimly and whispers back: “But it will be.” Eiza then heads for her corner. She has won the round by shutting MEW out.

R6: Foxfire crew working hard get Mary out for the new round. Mary rises at the bell and pounds her mitts together in a gesture of determination. Then she moves forward to meet Eiza who looks ready to finish the job and be the new wearer of that title belt. Eiza swinging for the head clearly hoping for an early knockout, but Mary ducking, blocking and blunting these moves. At the same time Mary now getting her counters hard into Eiza’s chin and jaw. Eiza has to fall back, circle and then come plunging in, this time attacking to the body. MEW again under serious body punching attack, but she is gritting it out and giving it right back to Eiza’s body. Two are ramming home the body shots punch for punch, but gradually Mary getting her punches in deeper and harder. Eiza slowly wilting under these counters, though she hangs in, retreating only in the final seconds. It’s a close round, but the judges give it to MEW.

R7: Eiza and Mary out for the new round, but MEW looking renewed as she quickly starts punching Eiza to the head. Eiza falls back, but comes in again and strikes at Mary to the jaw. Mary lashes back with a jaw shot of her own. Two start blazing away at each other mostly to the jaw, the side of the head, and the chin. Both fighters getting lumped up and wobbly, but still they keep punching. Then Mary suddenly drives hooks into Eiza’s stomach and she doubles forward, Mary unloads with right/left uppercuts into Eiza chin. Eiza is thrown backwards. She is still on her feet, trying to raise her mitts, but Mary now swarming all over her with punches to head and body. EIZA CRUMBLES TO THE CANVAS. Eiza in a heap at MEW’s feet. Mary walks quickly to the neutral corner and looks back as referee counts. Eiza trying to rise, but all she has only reached a kneeling position when referee calls out:

“TEN!...YOU’RE OUT!”

THE WINNER AND STILL FCBA LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION: MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD DEFEATS EIZA GONZALEZ KO7.

After; “Gonzalez is good,” Mary says to press after the fight, “she pressed me hard and that’s why I left her alone after the fight. She did her best, but it wasn’t good enough against me tonight. I’m glad I still have the belt. No, I am not at all sure who I will fight next.”

As for Eiza Gonzalez: “I thought she was vulnerable after that loss to Taylor Swift and I was sure I had her ready to go after that 5th Round. Then I found out she really can come back and take the win away from you. She’s not u.nbeatable, but I just couldn’t pull it off tonight. I hope I get the chance to try again some day.”

Once again, Mary Winstead showed she can come back from a bad beating in one round and still win the fight. It doesn’t always work for her, but this time it did and MEW has made her first successful title defense. Good effort by Eiza Gonzalez who came close to victory, but couldn’t get all the way there. Fans will be looking forward to future fights from these ladies, especially Mary and her Foxfire management ponders her next opponent.
