Brenda Song vs. Alicia Vikander (Results: Lookout! Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Song giving up a ton of size and height in this one, but, as always, the skilled flyweight is confident. "I've been in there with a lot of bigger girls over my career," says Brenda. "I know how to deal with size and length."

"This," says a hard-eyed Alicia, isn't ABOUT size. It's about who's better. And, that's ME."

ROUND ONE:

Vikander looking to bring power to bear early, moving forward behind the jab, but she's having loads of problems dealing with the unorthodox Brenda. Song's not where she's supposed to be. And, her punches are coming from places they aren't supposed to come from. Result is that the Swede is getting flummoxed. She can't get much going, and she's taking a lot of fire from the smaller woman. Song, for her part, is in rhythm almost immediately. She's getting work done throughout the round, peppering her rival with short, sharp combinations, then slipping away before Alicia can respond. By the time we come down the stretch, Song is feeling it and lets loose a HUGE combination that forces Vikander to back and cover. At the bell, it's not close at all. Brenda grabs the points and the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Vikander makes an adjustment. Now, she's not pressuring. Instead, she's working at range, using the jab and the length. And, it makes a HUGE difference. Now, Song has to work past Alicia's glove to get to spots and get off, and she's finding that plenty challenging to do. Vikander's getting that jab in the smaller woman's face over and over again, stopping her, holding her, then dropping heavy right hands on her. It's excellent stuff from the Swede, who gets stronger and more dominant as the round goes on. For Brenda's part, she's, as always, game, but she's taking a thumping in this stanza, and she can't seem to do much about it. Instead, Alicia keeps building up the points and punishment right to the bell. When it rings, we have our second-straight wide round, this one for Vikander, and we're even at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Alicia does not slow her roll. Vikander's taken over now, using all that reach extremely effectively. Song just can't get much done. She's working her feet, trying to get to her spots, but Alicia too slick, too quick. She's frustrating every effort from the smaller woman and giving her a beating in the process. Song's never hurt, but she's taking a thumping and can't seem to do much about it. Final minute sees an adjustment from Brenda. Now, she's got the hands up, tucking the head, looking to pick off some of those jabs. And, it works. All of a sudden, Song's back in the game, able to get to where she can get off, and taking advantage when she does so. Result is a final minute in which Brenda gives as good as she gets. But, it's far too late for this round, which goes to Alicia wide, giving Vikander a 29-28 lead.

ROUND FOUR:

Song keeping the gloves high and the head tucked. Alicia doubling up the jab, trying to slow her down, but it's not getting the job done. Instead, we're back to where we were in the first, with Song tossing leather from odd angles, slipping rejoinders from the Swedish beauty, generally making a pest of herself while piling up points. Then. BOOM! Right hook, BRENDA, and Alicia is HURT! Vikander wobbles, clinches. And Song lets the hands go, going to town with uppercuts that back up the taller girl, then extending on some nice combinations that drive her into the ropes. Vikander forms the tight earmuff, blocks, rolls with, jabs back in spots, runs clock. But, Song's getting a ton of work done right to the bell. Alicia survives, but it's Brenda's round wide, and we're even again, this time at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Song rolling early, taking the fight to Alicia, who's clearly still buzzed from the last round. BOOM! Right hook, BRENDA and DOWN GOES ALICIA! Vikander dropped to her right side by a SCINTILLATING hook from the smaller woman! Song BOUNCES to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Vikander sits up at five and gets to her feet at seven. Ref gives her the mandatory and WAVES ON BRENDA! And, Song is ALL OVER the Swede, battering her back into the ropes with volley after volley of heavy shot. Vikander in DEEP trouble as the ref looks in. Brenda calling in all available artillery looking to finish this thing, but, despite her best efforts, she can't get it done. Alicia hangs on, keeps the ref at bay with occasional counters, and makes it to the bell. But, a 10-8 Song round puts Brenda up 48-46 at the half.

ROUND SIX:

Song right back at Vikander. Alicia giving ground, taking heavy fire from the smaller woman. Brenda cleaning up in a major way here, but looking to finish this thing. BOOM! Right hand counter, ALICIA and Brenda is HURT! Song wobbled and nearly dropped by a NASTY right hand from the Swede, who quickly goes over to the offense and begins letting Brenda have it. Song reeling backward as Alicia bangs away with both hands. Brenda quickly pinned to the ropes and BOOM! There's a right hook from the Swede and DOWN GOES BRENDA! Song spilling to her right side to land parallel to the ropes. Vikander to a neutral corner. Referee counting down on the American, but it's all ceremonial. Brenda is both DOWN and OUT and it's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is Alicia Vikander!

AFTER:

Alicia showing plenty of respect in the post-fight. "This girl is not just game, she's GOOD. She's hard to fight, unorthodox. And, she's got deceptive power. That being said, I knew she wasn't beating ME. I'm too strong and too good. And, not just for Brenda, but for MOST of the girls in the FCBA."
