Intro:
The former FCBA bantamweight champion Kaya Scodelario is looking to be the one to stop this mighty run Anya Taylor-Joy is on, with Anya winning her last nine fights, she seems on the cusp of getting a title shot unless she falls near the final hurdle.
Before the fight both women were interviewed separately by FCBA Network host Lucy Liu, first on the set was Kaya wearing a light blue dress with matching heels, shaking hands with the FCBA legend before sitting down to begin the discussion.
After going through pleasantries they get down to business, Lucy asking her view on her opponent, Kaya replying "Anya has certainly been on a roll, I have been keeping an eye on her, beating Nina (Dobrev) is always a lot fun, let's be frank she hasn't beaten anyone better then me, finally she is stepping up and I am ready to knock her down a peg" smirking as she crosses her right leg over her left.
She then says "Anya can go back to playing chess on TV and leave winning titles to me, if anyone thinks I am done as an elite fighter then watch what I do to Anya" standing up, she nods to Lucy before leaving the set, clearly determined not to be pushed aside by the wave of fighters coming up the rankings.
Anya meanwhile is wearing a white dress with black heels, she waves to the cameras before giving Lucy a hug, she looks excited to be on the set as she sits down, Anya making clear it's a massive honour to be talking to Lucy, who makes it clear that she is loving the work of Anya in and out the ring.
They then discuss the fight, Anya tells Lucy "beating Nina last month was such a confidence booster, if I lost that fight I wouldn't be going into this with any belief, now I feel like all the hard work I have put in with my coach Summer (Glau) is working out, I hope that I can keep winning for my team" smiling as Lucy nods with her.
Lucy then tells Anya that Kaya doesn't seem to have much respect for her, Anya giggles before she says "Kaya can look down on me if she wants, I plan on looking down on her in the ring" winking as Lucy chuckles, Lucy wishing her good luck as she looks like she wants Anya to win.
Fight night, at ringside in the VIP section the managers of the Girls Friday stable Melanie Sykes and the manager of League of Mighty Women meet, shaking hands with a smile as the frenemies sit next to each other, a few words exchanged on whose fighter will win.
Out first comes Kaya with her coach Hilary Swank and cut woman Eva Carneiro, she jogs down the aisle with an icy glare, she steps into the ring wearing a red sports bra, red and black chequered trunks, red shoes, black gloves, hair tied into a ponytail as she steps into the ring, she flexes her arms for the camera as she stands in her corner, wanting to make a statement tonight to her rivals.
Here comes Anya to a loud cheer, the popular beauty has coach Summer following behind, she is wearing a baby blue sports bra, matching trunks, gloves and shoes, while her hair is tied into a ponytail, she steps into the ring her eyes on Kaya, taking a breath before nodding across the ring to her opponent to show her respect.
Coming together to the center of the ring, Anya looking relaxed as she bounces on her toes, Kaya hands on her hips staring down her opponent, they fist bump with Kaya hitting harder then Anya did, showing she has no love for her, they return to their corners with their coaches giving them final pieces of advice, the bell rings to start 10 rounds of bantamweight action.
Round 1:
At the bell both women have eyes locked behind their gloves, feeling each other out with jabs that they step in behind, looking like a fencing competition over the opening thirty seconds as neither wants to make an early mistake in the fight, with Kaya the first to up the tempo with a one-two combo into the chest of Anya to show she is going to play rough.
As they start to loose up, Kaya gets a feeling of why Anya has become such a potent fighter, she tries to step in with a straight to the body, ending up eating a counter left to her cheek as Anya shows off her impressive footwork and hand speed, catching Kaya with several good clean counter punches into her face.
Kaya slows down her attacks, a little puzzled by what is being presented to her, Anya doesn't help matters by following up with a double jab/straight into her face when she sees a gap in her guard, showing she isn't just a very talented defensive style fighter.
Less then forty seconds to go with Anya outboxing Kaya, the "Maze Runner" star finally catches out the blonde with a jab on her nose, closing the distance quickly as she shoves her onto the ropes chewing away at Taylor-Joy's body with short hooks, Anya gritting her mouthpiece as she tries to force Kaya off her, at the bell Scodelario curses under her breath for such a poor start to the fight for her.
Round 2:
Back out they come with Kaya using more feints, knowing she can't simply close the distance on Anya so easily, hoping to use her experience to work this test out in front of her, creating an opening as she slips a jab to hammer in two hooks under the ribs of Anya to make her groan out.
Starting to use her forearms to push back Anya when they exchange in close, Kaya is giving her less experienced foe a few lessons of the dark arts of boxing, trying to keep the blonde off her base so she can bully her around instead of being outboxed like the opener.
Anya is still landing some good clean punches but she is finding herself moved more near the ropes, giving her less room to counter punch from, with Kaya predominantly sticking to the body now with her punches, wanting to wear down the younger woman.
Final moments of the round sees Anya nudge back Kaya, landing a short uppercut from her guard, Anya finally works back Kaya to the center of the ring, outworking her foe in these exchanges as she dances more side to side, at the end of the round it's a much better round for Kaya, still Anya looks cool as she listens to her coach.
Round 3:
Kaya is definitely looking to rough up her opponent, throwing a few shots that are borderline on the waistband of Taylor-Joy's trunks, that provokes Anya's manager Sharon to stand and yell at the referee to the bemusement of Melanie next to her, Anya starting to try to slug it out in close but not making much headway.
An uppercut knocks Anya onto her heels, Kaya looks to have worked out how to get at her opponent, bullying her onto the ropes with more body shots testing out the abs of the blonde, the referee warning Kaya if any stray a little low, with Anya needing to clinch up with Kaya to slow her down.
When they resume it is Anya who catches out Kaya this time, stepping back out the way of a left cross, she counters with a straight into the chest of Scodelario, followed by a left cross to the cheek of Kaya to turn her head around, that gets Sharon cheering as Mel's smile turns to a scowl.
Before Anya can work her opponent to the ropes, Kaya grabs onto her right arm to trap it, while using her right to dig in a few punches around the back of the head of the LMW fighter, referee warning Kaya to keep it clean when they are broken up, maybe lucky not to lose a point, final moments sees both fighters go toe to toe as Anya looks annoyed, at the bell they walk away from each other scowling as neither of these two looks like they'll be sending the other a Christmas card soon.
Round 4:
Clashing near the center of the ring, Kaya is looking to bully back Anya, instead she is meeting some staunch resistance here from her opponent, Anya able to lean out the way of a right hook, then peppers the face of Kaya with a clean one-two combo.
While Anya looks to be getting her rhythm going again, Kaya is still testing the waters with her punches, another right lands near the waistband of Anya, the referee loud warning Kaya to lift her punches up as Anya grits her mouthpiece not to groan out from those shots.
As they pass the halfway stage of the round, Kaya misses with an uppercut when she thinks she has Anya near the ropes, instead a left hook crashes onto the ear of Kaya, who finds the roles reserved as she is now the one stuck towards the ropes, Anya landing some beautiful combos as she is outworking Kaya in these exchanges.
Final moments of the round sees Anya land a one-two through the mitts of Kaya, then lands an overhand right to her ear to make the brunette shell up, when the bell rings Kaya angrily bumps shoulders with Anya as she returns to her corner, Hilary trying to calm her down as she isn't liking what she is seeing from her fighter, Kaya looks more focused on Anya though.
Round 5:
Kaya is trying to get back onto the front foot, but is being met with punches square into her face as Anya dances around the ring on her toes, Kaya rushes Anya onto the ropes with her right forearm into her chest, digging short lefts into the body of the blonde till Anya clinches up, when they are broken up the referee warns Kaya to stop using her forearms, with the penalty of a point being taken away if she keeps it up, Melanie at ringside not happy to hear that.
Back at it they go with Anya looking the slicker boxer, opening a cut on the bridge of Scodelario's nose with a right cross, Kaya isn't giving up her bullying tactics that easily, ramming in several punches around the chest of Anya to lower her guard, then slamming in an overhand right to turn her head.
The action is going back and forth as neither can hold onto control, with things getting a little scruffy when Kaya nearly headbutts Anya on her lips when she steps in with two hooks to the body, getting shoved back and met with a one-two combo onto that cut to make her wince.
Late in the round they are hammering in shots on the inside, rubbing foreheads together as it becomes a war of attrition, the round ends with both being broken up by the referee, crowd chanting both fighters name as the referee nudges them apart, returning to their corners knowing they are in a real fight.
Round 6:
Meeting around the center of the ring again, Kaya maybe getting too aggressive as she misses with left cross as Anya steps back out the way, landing a counter right to the jaw of Kaya, turning the head of the brunette as she begins to work her back to the outside of the ring.
Kaya shoves back Anya to open up space, Anya is starting to land more cleanly of the round, a double jab drilling into that cut on Kaya's nose, with an uppercut then rocking her back onto her heels, Kaya is looking in defensive mode as she tries to grab onto Anya, eating another uppercut for her troubles.
Knocked onto the ropes, Kaya is desperately trying to fight her way back into this, missing with big hooks though, A LEFT HOOK HURTS KAYA AS HER ARMS DIP, A RIGHT HOOK THEN CRASHES ONTO THE CHIN OF KAYA, SENDING HER CRASHING TO THE CANVAS ON HER RIGHT SIDE!
Anya jogs over to the neutral corner with a smile and nod to her manager at ringside, 1...2...3... Kaya slowly rolls to her back with her left arm hanging under the bottom rope, 4...5...6.. Kaya is being yelled at by her coach to get up, 7...8... She seems lost to the world though as 9...10 she is counted out by the referee!
Winner Anya Taylor-Joy KO Round 6
After:
Anya with another champion on her CV now, jumping for joy as she raises both arms in the air, a big beaming smile on her face as Sharon is up yelling "that's my girl!" Pointing at her, while Melanie looks like she wants the ground to swallow her whole as she covers her face.
While Kaya needs help to move away from the ropes safely after she is checked over, Kaya coming around as she is helped to sit up, getting a drink from Eva as the ringside doctor checks her over, Kaya not looking happy understandably, staring hard at the doctor as she nods that she will be OK.
As Kaya is helped up by Eva and Hilary, she pushes Hilary's hands off her, clearly upset by her coach, Hilary looks shocked as Melanie at ringside shakes her head, Eva looking on wondering if she should say something, instead Hilary has to follow them as Kaya is helped out the ring, looking like there is trouble in the Girls Friday camp here.
In the ring Anya doesn't see what is happening as Summer tells her how proud she is of her, Anya nodding with a big beaming smile, so glad that she has taken another big scalp as she is clearly growing in confidence with each win, she then heads over to get her right hand raised to the delight of her coach and manager at ringside.
Outside the ring Melanie taps Sharon on her shoulder, telling her congratulations for a strong win but clearly as she leaves quickly she wants to deal with what's going on with her own stables trouble, with Sharon looking a little worried for her friend, before turning back to the ring to give a thumbs up to Anya.
Who is getting her name chanted as she does a lap of honour blowing kisses to her fans, Anya growing support too clearly, she then leaves the ring, smiling all the way up the ramp, surely it won't be long till she hears about a title shot if she can keep this impressive form, ten wins in a row, that's championship level.
