Vs.
Mabel McVey
(26, 5’3, 0:1 FCBA, Free Agent)

Results: Lookout!; Story: Caspian & The Dollhouse

BEFORE:
Another clash between sultry songstresses as Avril Lavigne takes on Mabel McVey, in a battle between generations and levels of experience. Mabel only has one fight under her belt: a loss to Danielle Campbell back in March of last year, however, the young singer has shown plenty of promise on her debut, knocking down the veteran Campbell in the 5th only to end up losing the fight shortly after. But the multinational singer still looks very sure of herself tonight as she enters the press hall to a smattering of applause and responds to the media’s questions:

"Yeah maybe this is only my second fight, but I knocked down Dani Campbell on my debut and tonight I'm all about that first knockout! I think Avril's weak and washed up. Just watched her fight against Abigail Breslin yesterday and she looked hella fragile in there. I know I'm tougher and I'm ready to continue from where Abigail left off. I'm going all out on her wimpy Canadian ass tonight and there’s literally nothing she can do to stop me." Mabel ends her statement with a smirh, starring directly at her opponent from across the table.

Lavigne of course cannot fathom the audacity of the newbie’s words, looks ready to bite her head off at the end of each sentence. When it’s finally her turn to respond, the cameras catch her monstrous eye roll before she grabs the mic:

"Excuse me… Mabel who? girl, chill. You're my warm-up fight for my real fight on the PPV next Friday. Don't make it harder on yourself than it already is, you're lucky you get the opportunity to fight me tonight. Just say thanks and try your best to survive more than 3 rounds in there and you'll have done your job and got your 15 mins of media coverage. K, b*tch? You're not knocking out anyone tonight. Trust me."

Tense staredown at the podium as Mabel is coming in slightly taller and with the bigger bulk, meaning she just might have the necessary tools to put Avril away. But of course, it’s one fight in the ring versus Avril’s 84, and the odds are not in the newbie’s favour. They continue to exchange harsh words directly to the face, finger-pointing and laughing off the other girl’s threats, before being separated by the fight officials.

Later, Avril makes her entrance first into the Staples Centre main hall and arena - only one fight on the card tonight but there’s still a commendable delegation who have shown up to watch their favourite Doll make a statement. Lavigne’s clad her typical black sports bra and tights, both with hot-pink trimmings, her blonde hair in a ponytail for tonight’s fight. She raises her gloves high as the music pumps along to the opening tune from her new record “Cannonball” which riles up the fans as their queen makes her way to the ring accompanied by big boss Electra. Up next, it’s Mabel who strides out from behind the curtains, the 25-year-old already pretty used to the limelight and adored by plenty of young fans in the arena tonight as she strikes a pose on the ramp and raises her white gloves above her head. The young singer is clad in a neon green sports bra and long tights, her ebony hair in a royal high ponytail as she marches towards the ring with a confident smirk, high fiving fans along the way.

In the ring, the referee calls this single CBAD match to order. Both fighters are looking primed and ready in their corners – Avril casually leaning against the corner post looking bored while Mabel is jumping up and down, smacking her gloves together, looking pumped for the opening bell. And with a wave of the arm, HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Flyweight action!

ROUND 1:
And they are out of their corners! Avril starts off all business here, surely trying to dominate this “warm-up” fight and show Mabel she's too new to mess with the queen of pop-punk herself. She marches straight for the newbie, firing hooks and jabs straight for her head, and this early on, Mabel’s a little too green to do much but turtle up and wait for her turn. The young singer grunts and groans, covering her head up as the punches keep landing and coming in, and Avril decides to head south, smirking with malice as she targets the bigger girl’s paunch and chest. But that proves a little TOO cocky from Av, with Mabel taking the opportunity to bash the Canadian across the face with a sudden wild hook, then more gloves smashed into the older woman’s face with stiffness! Ouch! Avril looking shocked after that first punch landed straight on her cheek, begins to falter immediately as more and more punches fill her peripheral vision! Just like that, the tides have turned, and Mabel is pushing back now, banging shots into the Doll’s face and not letting up! Lavigne tastes the youngster’s power first-hand, has to resort to covering up and backpaddling fast, managing to get away only in the last couple of seconds of the closing bell. And McVey is the one smiling at the bell, raising both arms to the sound of her fans who are loving what they’re seeing so far!

ROUND 2:
This newbie has some spirit! Mabel ain’t fazed by those early stunners to her face, now choosing to answer Avril's aggression head-on with some aggression of her own, marching forth and resuming the heavy swings at the Doll’s head. Avril’s now a whole lot more cautious (as expected after having her face punched in), moving backwards and sideways as she tries to contain the newcomer’s enthusiasm with targeted jabs to her head. Some of those do land hard, making Mabel grunt out loud, but the youngster’s stubbornness ain’t to be denied, and McVey gets close enough to pound several shots off Avril’s stomach, drawing air from her lungs and guttural grunts from her lips. So far, it’s all bad news for the more experienced fighter, and Avril opts to stay even further away for the remainder of the round, using her superior footwork to keep herself out of harm’s way. Not the best strategy to actually win a fight, but for now, it keeps her afloat.

ROUND 3:
Avril’s defensive tactics appear to be working, controlling Mabel’s early charge with a hard cross shoved into her chin, then a couple more jabs sent into her cleavage and body to show her how it’s done. Mabel’s getting tired despite being almost ten years younger - it takes plenty of training and time spent in the ring to build up one’s stamina, which the youngster has not done. Not yet, at least. She’s heaving at one end of the ring, looking for an opening to get in close and pound away on Lavigne’s body, but Lavigne ain’t having any of that nonsense, sending her jabs fast and over and under the arms, stunning the rookie with another flurry to her forehead and eyes in the last minute, which forces Mabel to hang back indefinitely till the sound of the bell. Good round and strategy for Lavigne, who takes the first round of this fight wide.

ROUND 4:
Mabel continues to bully her way in, having regained some energy in between rounds to make several forays into Avril’s space, both swinging at her body and up top at the head. Avril knows better now what to expect, moves her guard up and down in fluid fashion, intercepting a high hook sent towards her chin before blocking another one aimed at her body. Then, the Doll pays Mabel back in spades: a one-two combo shocking her straight to the chin, then an uppercut aimed to take her head off is absorbed at the last moment from a hastily formed guard. Mabel swings away in the last moments, scoring some errant shots off the side tummy and ribs, but again, they’re mostly blocked and taken on by Avril’s excellent guard. Who knows how long the Doll can hold onto her marbles here, though, with Mabel’s strikes growing more and more erratic?

ROUND 5:
Avril’s initial strategy of rushing in and charging has been completely turned about, and the Canadian fighter is now moving more cautiously as she evades some of Mabel’s early lunges towards her face. Mabel however is relentlessly chasing after her prey, lefts and rights fired in random directions until one such hook lands hard on the side of Avril’s head, which dazes her badly, and from there on out, Lavigne looks even more shaky and unable to intercept the follow-up barrage that comes. Mabel’s persistence pays off as she leaps in to bash another hook off the arms, which snags the chin slightly, and Lavigne barely has time to recover before more gloves are shoved in between her arms to connect with her body, chest and chin. The Doll’s in trouble here, getting shoved into the ropes by McVey's power and hanging on for dear life, while the younger fighter simply wails away upon her foe right into the final seconds of this round! Mabel would have definitely liked the knockdown if it wasn’t for the bell ringing too early, but she can congratulate herself with a shutout performance in the fifth, as Avril has to stumble back to her corner to attempt a recovery.

ROUND 6:
Mabel with early fire in her eyes as she looks to finish the older girl off. She makes a beeline for Lavigne, thinking she’s weak, vulnerable and primed to go down. Not the best strategy, however, with Avril suddenly springing into action with a right hand shoved first into her face from outta nowhere, surprise and disruption to the youngster’s plans, as another left-right combo stuns her to her mouth and nose to push Mabel back in her place. Mabel doing that wild flailing about thingy again, throwing random lefts and rights at Avril’s direction in the hope of securing another lucky shot, which doesn’t come. Lavigne stays at a safe distance throughout the round, weaving her head back whenever one of Mabel’s fists comes dangerously close, then banging a stiff hand back into the singer’s face for punctuation. Shutout performance right back for the Dollhouse star, who shows the world she’s still in the running for the title!

ROUND 7:
Mabel realises she also might be in the fight of her brief career. If she assumed Avril was going to go down easily like a sack of wrinkled potatoes, she’s clearly wrong, as this fight heads into its last quarter, with both fighters almost even on the scoreboards. First minute sees plenty of cautious jabbing from afar, with Avril and Mabel circling and throwing fast combinations at the head and body, both looking for an opening. Mabel suddenly switches her stance, no longer rushing in to try and brawl with the older fighter for fear of another rout taking place. That’s fine by Avril, who begins to push in with her own brand of aggression, casually tagging the youngster on the cheek with a left hand and then blasting her to the center of her arms with a follow-up right cross. McVey doesn’t know what hit her, or what might hit her next! If she can’t rush forward, she’s a deer in the headlights of an oncoming truck as Avril shoves more punches between her arms to push her slowly towards her corner. Mabel takes another stiff left to the face, which makes her grunt and yelp out loud, and suddenly, the rookie’s defences are all in tatters! It’s Lavigne’s show, ladies and gents, as the veteran Doll DISMANTLES her foe with aggressive precision, shocking lefts and rights slammed into Mabel’s face before pounding on her stomach just because she can! Another right hook across the temple sends Mabel REELING off to the side, before the youngster collapses to the ground by the ropes! It’s a KNOCKDOWN for Avril Lavigne, who pumps her arms in the air and skips her way back to her corner! This might be it?!

Mabel groans on the ground, trying to push her head off the canvas and perhaps trying to go another three rounds. Meanwhile, Avril’s calmly catching her breath in the neutral corner, laughing and gesturing rudely at her squirming opponent. Referee’s doing his due diligence by Mabel’s side, counting her out with a loud, booming voice, and Mabel has barely made it up to her knees when he reaches the end of the 10-count, before waving his arms overhead! It’s OVER!

Official Decision: Avril Lavigne defeats Mabel via KO7!

AFTER:
A great effort from Mabel tonight, taking the fight to Lavigne for 7 rounds, but unfortunately for her , the rookie comes up short tonight and will have to look for her first win elsewhere.

Avril looking tired but still smug, wiping off her sweaty chest and face with a towel before strutting back to the center of the ring and gets her hand raised by the ref to officially declare her the winner of tonight’s fight as the fans cheer wildly for the Doll.

“Take it easy McVoy!” Lavigne taunts her younger opponent who’s still on the mat on her knees, being helped by her team. “You never stood a chance anyway….good luck next time bitchhhhh!” the Canadian laughs, earning herself a death-stare from the frustrated Mabel, who fires right back – “Took you 7 rounds to knock down a rookie, dummy…give me one year and I’ll clap your fat ass! dumb b*tch!.”

Oh oh! Lavigne didn’t like that! The blonde suddenly charges at the fallen brunette and STARTS SWINGING! Mabel barely recovered and under sudden attack, defends herself by throwing her arms up but manages to SPRING BACK to her feet under pressure and pay Avril in kind! BAM! The Canadian gets SOCKED on the cheek with a stiff hook that shocks her right in her tracks and Lavigne’s WOBBLY! The crowd going wild as Mabel turns the tables on an punch-drunk looking Lavigne and takes some big swings of her own at the now retreating blonde but Avril somehow regains her composure and fires back some shots of her own which quickly derails into a wild brawl with both women throwing whatever they have left at each other, both eating some big shots to the face! Oh my!

Unfortunately for the fans, the chaos doesn’t last more than mere seconds as Mabel’s team jump at their fighter and quickly pull her back much to her protest as she continues hurling punches and insults towards Avril, who herself is also being held back by her own team now and the two panting but furious ladies are officially separated with Avril shouting “LOSER!” at her opponent for good measure before turning around and raising her arms to remind the fans who the official winner of the fight is tonight.

Mabel staring at the blonde from her corner, flared nostrils and shaking her head, chooses to follow suit - the younger singer suddenly smirks and turns to the crowd, raising both arms as well and getting plenty of cheers from her fans for her effort tonight despite failing to win the fight.

Shortly after, Lavigne is first to leave the ring as she makes her victory march towards the backstage looking as smug as ever, giggling and high fiving fans along the way.
When approached by reporters on the aisle for a word on tonight's win, Lavigne keeps it short and cocky.

“Mabel thinks she’s tough sh*t but she got smoked tonight by something she doesn’t have - actual skill. And if she’s stupid enough to challenge me again in the future I’ll just kick her ass again...or like, punch it!" the blonde giggles.

"So ya...get on my level, b*tccccchhhh.” Lavigne prolongs that final insult as she strikes a playful pose with her hands on her hips and the Punk-Princess is all smiles as she finally exits the arena to the sound of her fans cheering her on. The Doll better not rest on her laurels after tonight’s win against a rookie though, as she better get ready for next weekend's PPV, where she'll be facing the dangerous Florence Pugh for what will surely be a tough challenge for the 37 year old songstress.

Mabel on the other hand can rest easy after tonight, knowing she was able to put up a very impressive performance on only her 2nd appearance in an FCBA ring, surely impressing some managers in the process which will perhaps get her a step closer to being snatched by a proper team.

Either way, with McVey’s promise to take Lavigne out in the future, what we’ve seen of this budding rivalry tonight is perhaps only the beginning.
