Amy Willerton vs Danielle Herrington
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Amy Willerton
(29, 5’9, 5-1 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Danielle Herrington
(28, 5’10, 8-5 FCBA, Global Boxing Syndicate)

Pre-Fight: League of Mighty Women’s resident fighter Amy Willerton will be facing Global Boxing Syndicate’s Danielle Herrington to close out a relatively busy year for both fighters. Amy had a good year so far, especially improving her defense with the help of her coaches at the LMW, but this will be Amy’s last fight in their residency program. So, she will be hoping to end on a high note and impress the LMW management to offer her a roster spot. For Danielle, it will bring an end to the year in which she competed and finished fifth in the Diamond Tournament after going through some ups and downs. She did win her last two fights though and she will be looking for a strong finish as well.

Amy addresses the audience first during the pre-fight press conference. “Looking at the rankings, many might think that I’m stepping up for this fight and taking a risk as my residency comes to a close. They are wrong. I proved that I belong in this ring with my performances all year, while Danielle got exposed in that tournament. I will spoil her holiday season!”

Danielle keeps her composure and starts her statement with a smile. “Amy had a good year, but I don’t see her spoiling anything in this fight. Yes, I was hoping to do better in the tournament, but I still got some good wins and learned a lot from it. That experience will help me win this one as well.” With that, the press conference comes to an end without issue.

It is the fight night and Amy enters the arena first with her coach, Ali Landry, beside her. She looks focused as she walks down the aisle to the ring and pumps her fists as the fans cheer.

She is wearing a green sports bra with white trim, matching trunks, gloves and shoes. Her hair is tied into a ponytail.

Danielle comes out next with her coach, Jeri Ryan, accompanying her. She waves to the crowd as they cheer loudly for her. It sounds like she is the slight favorite among the fans in the arena tonight.

She is wearing a red sports bra with white trim, matching trunks, gloves and shoes. Her hair is also tied into a ponytail.

Both fighters come to the center of the ring and after getting the final instructions from the referee, they touch gloves and step back to their respective corners. We are now ready for 10 rounds of welterweight action!

Fight: Round 1: The bell rings and both fighters step up and test each other’s range right away with some jabs. After a little bit of testing, they both seem ready to trade some leather. Danielle is quicker as she lands a one-two combination first, but Amy answers right away with a hook. The Brit dodges another straight from her opponent and lands another hook, this time to the body. She goes up top again with one more hook, but the American model closes up her guard in time to block it. They both score with a couple more straights before Danielle takes a step back and starts circling her opponent.

They engage in a couple more exchanges with only a few clean shots landing, but in the last thirty seconds, Amy forces another exchange and sparks fly. She eats a straight on her way in, but then she lands two big hooks to the ribs, ducks down to avoid a wild swing by Danielle and then goes up top to land a hook to the chin. Danielle clinches to slow Amy down and as the referee separates them, the bell rings.

After an exciting round, Amy goes back to her corner with a smile on her face. She was slightly ahead throughout the round and that last exchange sealed the deal. She is leading Danielle on the scorecards.

Round 2: During the break, Jeri told Danielle to be more mobile and to use her reach to find openings as Amy chases her. It looks like the American model is listening to her coach as she starts circling the ring with the start of the second round. Amy is carrying over the confidence from the last round, so she is on the chase. Danielle’s new game plan immediately comes to fruition as she lands a one-two combo while Amy tries to close the distance, but Danielle keeps moving, not willing to engage in longer exchanges.

Danielle keeps her feet moving for the rest of the round, frustrating Amy with defensive jabs and short combinations. She is not only keeping Amy away, but also landing more shots in the process, which are starting to take a toll on the Brit. Realizing this, Danielle launches her own attack towards the end of the round to land some shovel hooks to the body and a big hook up top that rocks Amy, who is relieved to hear the bell ring, signaling the end of round two.

It is Danielle smiling this time as she wins the round and ties things up on the scorecards. Jeri seems pleased with her fighter’s execution of the plan in this round and tells her to keep up the good job. On the other side, Amy is being told by her coach Ali to cut the angles and not just walk into her opponent’s traps.

Round 3: Danielle sticks with her plan to move Amy around, while Amy decides to be more patient and calculated with her attacking, making it a quieter start to this round. The American still lands a few defensive jabs, but she is not finding as many openings now that Amy is being more careful.

As we go past the two minute mark, Amy finds an opportunity to cut the angle and land a one-two combo that drives Danielle back to the corner. Amy launches a barrage of body shots to keep her opponent trapped in the corner. Danielle blocks a few of them, but a couple slips her guard and makes her wince. Not willing to get stuck there, Danielle clinches with her opponent and then pushes her away to land a straight and step out of the corner.

Danielle survives the round without issue, but getting caught in the corner costs her as she loses what was otherwise very close round. Amy is on top of the scorecards once again, but she is not smiling anymore, knowing that things can change quickly.

Round 4: Danielle making some adjustments to her plan as she still circles the ring, but her movement is more aggressive now. She steps in and out of range to land a one-two combo or a hook. After what happened in the last round, it looks like she doesn’t want to let Amy timing her approaches. Amy struggles with this new approach at first as Danielle keeps increasing the pace and not letting Amy to recover in between the exchanges. She does adapt in the second half of the round though and starts landing some body shots as well as single punches up top before Danielle could get out of the range.

It has been a back-and-forth fight so far and it was Danielle’s turn to control the majority of the round again. So, they are tied up once again on the scorecards and both fighters are increasing their pace and intensity, setting us up for a fun battle.

Round 5: Both fighters come out with aggressive styles this round, so they immediately engage and start trading leather. Danielle scores with a jab, but Amy ducks under the straight that follows and lands a shovel hook to the American’s abs instead. Danielle takes a step back and as Amy tries to follow, she hits her with a hook to the chin. Amy is the one taking a step back this time as she looks hurt by that last shot. Danielle quickly follows with a jab that drives Amy further back and then a strong cross lands right on the Brit’s nose, which knocks her down with a bloody nose! Danielle walks to a neutral corner as the referee starts the count. 1…2…3… Amy slowly raises her head to assess the situation 4…5…6… she sits up and takes a moment to gather her strength 7…8… she pushes herself up to her feet and raises her gloves, so that the referee can wipe them.

We are back in action! Amy looks like she hasn’t fully recovered and Danielle is keen to finish it right here and now. The American model steps forward and lands a jab, but Amy ducks under the follow up straight and scores with a big overhand. Danielle looks hurt too, but she is not backing down. They are both swinging wildly now, but not with much success as they are barely standing. Danielle stumbles forward as she misses with another hook, which puts her in the way of one of Amy’s wild swings. It connects with Danielle’s chin and drops her! What a quick and wild turnaround! Amy is ordered to the neutral corner, which she does so with shaky legs. 1…2…3… Danielle struggles to roll over, she can feel her head spinning 4…5…6… she finally rolls and pushes herself up to one knee 7…8… she attempts to get up, but she cannot find her footing and falls back on her knees 9…10! She is counted out by the referee, signaling to the end of the fight after a wild finish!

Official Result: Winner via KO in round 5, Amy Willerton!

Post-Fight: Amy raises her fists in victory, but she is still wobbly, so she quickly grabs the ropes as she tries to walk back to her corner. Ali enters the ring and helps her fighter get back to their corner as she congratulates her for the hard-fought victory. Amy needs a minute to sit down on the corner stool and clear her head before going back to the center of the ring. LMW’s executive director, Sharon Horgan, enters the ring to congratulate her fighter as well. She whispers something into Amy’s ear, which makes the Brit smile and thank her boss.

On the other side, medical staff and Jeri help Danielle to slowly get back to her feet and to sit on the stool. She still looks a bit shaken, but there is nothing serious, so the medical staff gives her the thumbs up. Jeri looks disappointed with the result, but she encourages her fighter, focusing on the positives and leaving negatives for later when they are in the training room.

Amy looks tired, but happy as she gets her hand raised by the referee. After that, she gets the microphone. “That was a battle, but I knew that I would come out on top and I did! I proved once again that I belong here. I just talked with Sharon and we will have to wait a bit for the official announcement, but you can expect to see more of me! Since I’ll be sticking around, I might as well keep knocking out GBS’ welters. So Megan (Thee Stallion), consider yourself warned!”

It was an exciting fight with both sides coming in swinging to knock each other out. It could have gone either way, but it was Amy, who not only got the victory, but also what sounds like an actual roster spot with the LMW. As for Danielle, she is finishing her year in defeat after the ups and downs, but she fought well and it is the ups that make her an exciting fighter to watch going forward.
