Alice Sabatini versus Robyn Lawley

Rockin’ Robin … Thunder from Down Under … and of course, Godzilla … the big girl is starting to make some noise in the welterweight division and some of the names are starting to notice - including another up and comer in the person of Alice Sabatini. Alice called out the big girl and ready to take on the roll of giant slayer!

Robyn Lawley to the ring in Aussie royal blue bikini with matching boots and gloves, blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail, seconded by Adrianne Palicki and Scrubby McGee - Jenny McCarthy also in corner to supply non-stop useless and often contradictory advice. Alice Sabatini to ring wearing tricolor bikini - red green and white for Italia … green gloves and red boots - seconded by red hot flyweight contender and stablemate Cree Cicchino. During referee’s instructions, fighter quiet and focused but non stop threats from McCarthy that “Betty Spaghetti is goin’ down, capische?”. Cree says something about “Puttana bionda” and Alice cracks a smile. Jenny-Mac complaining to referee that is against the rules … not to speak English?!! Referee just cuts instructions short to avoid international incident.

Ringside: Front Street has a full row - Cassie, Neve, Pointy and the Man in the Hat - plus Big Paulie, the one man security detail! When Cassie asks what the Wizard thinks, there is a thoughtful pause and then “Well, this Sabatini kid is a real comer. She’s got the tools and the results to show she can use them. She beat Gemma who we all know is a top fighter, and unless my math is off, 8 and 2 is an 80% win rate - how many other fighter’s you know winning 80% of their fights?”

Neve ”But …? I sense a “but” here …”

Wizard “Very perceptive!”

Cassie “So what’s the ‘but’?”

Wizard “But …. she’s fighting a girl who’s as big as a dinosaur! Ever fought a dinosaur? They can do a lot of damage in a little time!”

Round 1

Alice out of her corner peppery - on her toes and immediately flicking that jab - pap pap pap - and knocking big girl’s head back even though she is conceding greater reach, then quick heel trunks to avoid any return fire. Italian again with the jab, and when Aussie reaches with right hand counter, Sabatini snakes neck back and cracks opponent to the jaw with counter left hook. Lawley disengages - frustrated - then back at Alice cautiously. Now extending her own long jab, scoring rarely but preventing Sabi from getting off. Near the and of the round, Lawley follows jab with big overhand right, Alica slips under and erupts out of the crouch with left hook to ribs, jaw and back the ribs that stuns the big girl! Round Sabatini convincingly!

Round 2

Lawley out of corner a little tentative, probing with jab, but still being out jabbed - Sabatini flashing faster hands. “Git up in her, goil!” screams Scrubby. Lawley slow to react, fighting inside neutralizes her long reach but she works in … and fight gets sloppy, clinching, holding, little cuffing shots inside … and Alice Sabatini made to carry 170+ pounds of Godzilla leaning on her! Big girl chugging away with her hands inside, Italian responding but weight of shot favors the Aussie. At length, Alice pushes off but makes mistake of backing straight out instead of taking an angle … and is tagged with long right hand lead that seals the round for Robyn.

Round 3

Cree barking in her paisan’s ear “Make a statement! Demand her respect!”. Out of the corner, Alice sets up business as usual, jab … jab … feigns jab and big overhand right! Lawley was stalking and is stunned by big shot to the kisser, stumbles back a step. Italian calm and cagey … not rushing … not risking running into that power … she works perimeter … picking at the wounded Godzilla from the outside … dancing back from counters. At length, Lawley bum rushes her tormentor, drives her to ropes, and able to gain a measure of vengeance, doling out punishment on ropes with thumping punches as Sabatini goes into the guard but at bell, its another round for the Italian beauty.

Round 4

Sabi again using hand speed, leg speed, and overall ring generalship to frustrate her massive opponent. Light peppery jab stinging the blonde, goading her into reaching with the right to retaliate, catching only air and not infrequently taking a hook to the head for her trouble. Swings and misses are also tiring the giant and allowing Italian to take the offensive. Alice getting brave near te end, advancing right at big Lawley, and takes a hard right to the jaw for her recklessness. Brunette stung, content to back off as she banks another round.

Round 5

In corner, Robyn gets read the riot act by Scrubby. “Wake da hell up, goil, da damn fight started fifteen minutes ago! Never mind lookin’ for da poifect shot - just move your hands! Put hands on dis goil!”. Lawley out of her corner and at her foe aggressively - lefts and rights - just putting hands on Alice. Disrupting, pounding - not the cleanest punches but pure weight of shot based on Godzilla’s size is punishing. Sabi forced to fight backing up, snapping jab, occasional straight right, she actually lands the cleaner shots but Lawley takes the round on pure volume.

Round 6

Cree in corner, “Cannot beat this beast by backing up for three minutes - make her fear you!”. Alice out of her corner hot - jabbing to get close, then letting mitts go to the body, thumping hooks to midsection that have the big girl covering up. Sabs rears back and pounds with that overhand right, looking to punch right through the guard … once … twice … and SABATINI DOWN! Lawley times her and gambles with left uppercut that kisses Italian chin and sends her sprawling to all fours. Crowd stunned - as is the IBB corner! Alice on all fours … staring at canvas … then head up as she recovers senses and picks up the count … at “7” she pushes off to try to rise … but legs are not there! Winner by KO in the 6th round … Robyn Lawley!

Post Fight

Big Aussie checks Italian foe in corner, offers a pat on the cheek. Microphone shoved in front of her picks up Jenny McCarthy grumbling, “You should have walked the sl*t!”

Lawley: “How do I feel about the fight? Well, she’s tough - make no mistake about that! I’d be in no rush for a re-match (laughs) … actually, I’m hoping that the people who matter have been noticing … I’ve kind of turned it around … by the way, to ANYONE whose career is stalled, try try try to find a way to work with Scrubby … best trainer, bar none! Anyway, like I said … the short term goal is to crack the rankings .. long term goal is the same as every fighter in this organization … and I think we all know what that is!”
