Neriah Fisher vs Evangeline Lilly

(Words: O & E / Results: Lookout!)

Before: High contrast bout, recent champ and frequent pound-for-pound contender taking the measure of one of the FCBA’s newest signees. “So far, there’s a lot to like” Evangeline admits. “She’s long, wiry, hits a ton with the right hand, moves well, she’s got talent. I’ve got an idea about her body that she’s not going to like so well—don’t think she’s really built to take it up the middle, so I’m definitely going to testing her chassis. I’m really pumped for it.”

Fisher equally confident, coming off some good hard whacks and looking for more. “I just want to get the ball rolling,” Neriah shrugs in prefight. “I want to kick Vangie’s butt, and knock her out—I’d be lying if I didn’t say that. Lilly is a big, quality name and this is the fight that puts me on the map—I’m not going to mess up this opportunity.”

Neriah in a black-and-white checked bikini, white gloves, hair loose and long. Evangeline wearing all black gear, her hair tied back into a ponytail.

R1: Neriah punching-with in early going, beats Evangeline to clanging hooks, unhinging veteran’s legs. Lilly staggers away wide-eyed, momentarily astonished. Fisher jabbing chest to put Evangeline ropeside, then banging that body: tucking into those sausage-tight abs with murderous, chugging rights and lefts, pounding Lilly’s butt into the ropes. Evangeline open-mouthed, stricken: Neriah working up tempo, tearing up that rack uppercuts; clipping the chin to straighten her back up. Up and down, up and down Fisher rough, but thorough, going at Lilly with shoulder-bumping, then raucous punching head and body. Bell: Neriah steps back right at her cheek, left at her gut, eyes blazing; poor Evangeline ashen-faced, trembled-bodied, after a near shutout first.

R2: More Neriah, taking it to Evangeline all around the ring. Lilly not known for her legs, but motoring lithely around the canvas, pivoting and keeping her balance—trouble is, Fisher’s just as mobile. Neriah walking Evangeline down, jabbing her chest to fix position, then unleashing torrid combinations. Lilly buffeted upside her head and shoulders, punched into ropes, then assailed to her midsection—Fisher setting a Lilly-like work-rate as she hounds her foe all around the apron. Hurt, wobbly butt—Evangeline issues the fight’s first clinches—wearily tying up behind Neriah’s head and right elbow, tucking the rival brunette in close for ref’s breaks. Fisher making a rookie mistake: allowing the clinch, waiting for the official rather than working to keep her hands moving, doesn’t need it to take the round, but we’ll see what that costs her later.

R3: Evangeline been hurt, scattered, disorganized thus far: she regroups, takes a more angular stance. Dukes up—leggy girls circling left, pumping jabs, glaring out from behind prepared defenses. Orderly stuff—straight punches, prefaced by stiff jabs, crosses shafting back and forth from medium/long range, Both girls adept at parrying and blocking—not a lot’s getting through. Easy to compare weight of shot—Neriah’s popping punches detonating against Lilly’s guard with authority: Evangeline not as heavy handed. Still, Lilly gets more through, rights the ship, takes the round.

R4: Evangeline darting in and punching with—straight, pounding blows bash at Neriah’s pretty face as rookie misses the mark. Fisher legging out, circling after being scored upon: she knows Lilly wants to set up close, vet on the pounce, aggressively headhunting—only by backpedalling and wheeling away can Neriah seem to make herself safe. Fisher able to dial in a jotting jab off the shoulder late: she’s settling down, finding her range, finally tracking Lilly with some consistency to avoid the shutout.

R5: Neriah pivoting around planted left foot with nimble heel-and-toe movements—keeping her hands up, elbows in. Evangeline weaving in, dukes collected near chin, trying to sneak inside down low, come up hooking, Fisher dropping out a crisp, stiff jab off the shoulder, really stacking the veteran up with it. Middle minute, Neriah starting to extend: drilling right crosses pounding off Evangeline’s face, startling her. Fisher quick-pivoting ‘round, jab-jabbing at Lilly’s head, dropping in tidy rights, showing off real skill as a tall-girl boxer/puncher. Another right hand clangs to ‘Vangie’s chin-another-Neriah eases her right foot back to widen stance, drawing Lilly forward and BLASTING her right hand to chops. LILLY SPILLS TO ALL FOURS! Stunning display of rangy power punches brings a sunny smile to Fisher’s face: she jogs all fresh and pretty to neutral corner as Lilly struggles up for a shabby 8. Resume—Neriah attacking Evangeline at the apron, taps the jab, dips/rotates her torso, slides back half a step, drops a jolting right hand off the shoulder as Lilly’s coming in; ‘VANGIE’S HURT AGAIN! Lilly punched out of her stance, winds up giving up her back, gripping the ropes to avoid a second knockdown, looking out into the crowd, mouth open in astonishment. Fisher prancing to neutral corner BEAMING with pride.

R6: Brace of jabs has Evangeline staring early—Neriah rotating to her left as she knocks at face, scoring stiff. RIGHT CROSS, FISHER! Neriah just twitching that laser right hand off her shoulder, POUNDING it off Lilly’s right eye: Evangeline’s head tilts all the way back so she’s facing ceiling as her legs give a shimmy. Hammering impact brings a smile to Neriah’s face—quickly erased as Lilly proves she’s still a warrior, “Vangie slugging her way forward with free-swinging lefts and rights: tic-toc clock to chops stuns the lanky beauty. Neriah forced to leg out of range—she restores order with her legs, pivoting to her right, dragging that front foot and pinging away lion-tamer jabs to bring Lilly back into compliance, by the final minute, Fisher’s jab has Lilly ducking down to slip. Neriah cleaning up a downward-slanting right cross to scalp and temple, banging away for more points in the sixth. During the break, Lilly grimaces as she gets Enswell all over her face: Fisher’s punching her puffy.

R7: Lilly regroups - doubles up the jab, gets on Neriah's chest. Fisher forced into ropes: Lilly very strong inside, reaching under rookie's arms, pushing on her for control. Evangeline fighting off Neriah's chest - digging to the waist; scouring close-in uppercuts - kid fighting with elbows in close to body, fists pressed into her cheeks. Good stout stuff - Lilly banging away in bursts, bodying up as necessary to keep Fisher ropebound: Neriah stays organized behind sturdy guard, nipping back uppercuts, wrestling with ‘Vangie in various attempts to turn the smaller woman into the ropes. Evangeline owns it: she maintains position atop Neriah, steadily outworks her, banging up those flanks/biceps in the process.

R8: Evangeline leans in, carving a palm-down right across Fisher's torso, follow-up left digs hook-to-liver, lips pressed tight as she shoves it in short. Neriah shook, but back with a little chop-chop left/right hammer-drop sequence to Lilly's jugs, then both girls detonate hooks off offending chins. They circle clockwise, then dive back in: Fisher over the top with a right hand, missing; Lilly bobbing low, then digging right hands hard to ribcage, one, two, three. Neriah grunts on receipt - swipes a tight hook across Lilly's temple, buckling 'Vangie's knees...hurting fighters back away to regroup...Lilly steps-with and DRIVES HOME RIGHTY! Gorgeous, gambling right hand catches Fisher flush, swivelling her head even as she's pulling back. Neriah's hands drop - face immediately going blank, legs locking up as SHE SPLASHES TO HER BACK! Fisher hitting canvas like a cadaver - hands flapping up over her head - eyes closed, lips parted in shock. Neriah twitches herself awake-rolling over her right side- she gets to her knees-pitches face first into ropes-pulls herself up to beat the count. Fisher swaying in the wind, eyes rolling, head lolling and REF WAVES IT OFF! Neriah blurting in protest as ref doesn't like what he sees: TKO8 for Evangeline Lilly in a squeaker!

After: Hard fought battle of wills ends with both fighters hanging over the top ropes panting through their pain and exhaustion. Vangie pulling off the win from deep in a hole, but a rookie putting her on her heels early and often doesn’t speak much for Lookout’s bantamweight viability this year! Evangeline still confident as she winks at the camera, "There's no doubt that she's got talent. She's a rookie that gave me all that she had and of course, I gave her all that I had back. As it usually does, they can't match what I've got and I left her ruined. I won't forget her, but I don't think she'll forget what I did to her body anytime soon. Maybe she'll end up going places, but going anywhere still means going through me. I'm not done with this division anytime soon."
