Emma Watson vs Sophia Bush II
Emma: (31, 5’5, 53:31 FCBA, VIXENs)
Sophia: (39, 5’4, 32:32 FCBA, Girls Friday)
BEFORE: These two have fought once before, back in 2016 when Emma Watson was still trying to find her footing in the FCBA world. Back then, Miss Watson was still nursing a deficit and lopsided win-loss ratio till of course she got signed by the VIXENs.
“I still consider that match a fluke. I should have had my hand raised at the end of those ten rounds. Instead, Bush steals the victory by just a small margin of error,” Emma says first, drawing side-eyed glances from across the room. “Tonight, it’s going to be different. I’m a more well-rounded fighter, a former champion, and no more little miss goody two shoes.”
Bush, seated on the other end of the table, looks a little incredulous as she listens to Watson’s tirade. Yes, the fight may have gone to a razor-thin margin at the final bell, but the two fighters had ended things most cordially, if we recall.
“If Emma really feels this way, then perhaps I misjudged her. She seemed like such a nice girl back when we fought. I offered her a rematch back when we fought, and I defeated her via points. It seems like she’s gonna regret taking the offer up when she loses for a second time in a row,” Bush replies moments later.
A little over eight years of difference between this pair, though Emma’s younger and with the busier schedule. The two actresses face off at the podium with steady fists primed to the chin and shoulders and feet squared one in front of the other, later separating with one less cordial handshake than before.
Fight night and Sophia is first out of the gate, looking fit for someone close to the age of 40. She’s wearing an army-green sports bra and long black tights, waving a pair of white gloves to the crowd. Emma is in a navy blue sports tunic, short black tights by contrast, tying her dirty blonde hair up in a battle bun before donning red gloves.
There’s the referee’s wave of the hand and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Flyweight action!
ROUND 1: Emma shows us that losing the Flyweight belt hasn’t slowed her down one bit as she continues to maintain her focused counterattacks, jabbing at Bush only after the American girl makes a first move. But Bush is also adapting quickly, showing some of her own aggression and picking the best moment to strike, bashing fewer but harder punts back into Emma’s arms and body, driving the Vixen backwards. Emma, certainly not expecting this counter-move to her counter-move, grunts as Sophia lands another straight fist to her lips with speed, showing off her own brand of agility she can bring to this fight. Third minute and Watson’s no longer smiling, breathing a little harder as she wonders how to regain her advantage going forward, whilst Bush scores for herself one hell of a round from bullying a former champ about the ring.
ROUND 2: More of the same as Bush takes a couple more steps forward and Emma takes the same number in the opposite direction. Watson plays it safe but has to be careful if she doesn’t want to find herself cornered and knocked down to the ground early. Bush’s strategy seems to be as such, firing jab-jab-hooks to scare the Brit towards the corner and then madly dashing in to overpower her. Emma groans as the punches make contact with her arms and sides, but nothing really erroneous scores on her frame. Instead, she’s doing her best to snap leather back into Sophia’s face, rocking her chin once, twice, three times in between her wild advances. It seems to have done the trick:Bush looks stunned and red-faced by the time the round ends, though Emma was forced to concede another round to her opponent.
ROUND 3: Back into the fray for both girls, who don’t seem to let up one bit despite all the punishment in the first two rounds. Emma employs a little more defence, blocking the first flurry to her arms before shocking Bush back to the face with an overhand straight cross. Sophia’s clearly stunned but back to ramming her own mitts back into Emma’s arms, which shocks the Brit in equal measure with her power. Bush rushes in, already priming another right hand as follow-up, but Emma stops her in her tracks with a crisp left jab to the cheek, another tagging her clean on the chin to shove her head back. Good mixture of fire sent both ways in this round, as both fighters reset and reevaluate in the final seconds.
ROUND 4: Emma decides to throw caution to the wind as she CHARGES all of a sudden! Must be at the beckoning of her own corner as she makes a beeline for Bush, hoping to overrun her position with shock and awe! Sophia goes reeling backwards when a right hand slams into the middle of her guard, but otherwise takes the rest of the shots on her arms. Emma gets in close enough to jam a couple more gloves into Sophia’s midsection, but gets her own head TORQUED the other way as Bush takes the abuse and lets loose her own hook clean into the side of her head!! OW!! Emma wasn’t expecting that counterhook out of the blue, stumbles to one side and does her best to prepare for her counter-assault, but gets ROCKED again by an aggressive Sophia Bush, who nails the starlet with a stiff hook across the face, then another uppercut to the base of her jawline!! AND BACK WATSON GOES, collapsing onto the floor with a loud THUDD!
It’s a KNOCKDOWN for Sophia Bush in the fourth round!! And good lord! An unexpected play from the American actress, who throws up her hands and smiles wide for the crowd! Can Watson truly get up from this debacle? She’s laid out on the canvas, arms lying crooked above her head for a moment but soon starting to stir from her position. Meanwhile, Bush is walking on sunshine, smiling wide as she heads back to the neutral corner to await the victory bell. Emma, however, is slowly pushing herself back up to her knees, then steadying herself by the count of 8. This fight continues!
ROUND 5: Not surprising that Sophia springs into action right at the sound of the bell, having heard renewed rumours of Emma’s glass chin and her even glassier body. Let’s face it: the Vixen doesn’t exactly have the reputation for any one area of strength in particular, not her speed, power or aggression. In fact, some of us are still wondering how the Harry Potter starlet managed to win the Flyweight title in the first place all those years ago. But Emma does what she’s done before: evade Sophia’s attacks with an agility that’s unmatched, keeping her feet moving as she swerves side-to-side to avoid more hooks thrown towards her head. Watson counter-punching with gusto, peppering the body and face with steady jab combos, landing in ones, twos or threes, slowly but surely taking the round for herself before Bush even realises what’s happening. Bush, the one left surprised at the end of three minutes, thought Emma was ready to go down with her ship especially after scoring that knockdown in the last round, but gets rudely awakened when the former champ is moving faster than ever.
ROUND 6: Sophia mounts another defence and for a while, it keeps Emma off, as the two ladies trade leather to the face and body in tandem. Bush is trying to overpower the leaner woman with the odd hook to the head to try and end this fight in a flash, but Emma’s just too alert to notice, easily swerving to one side before planting her own hook across Bush’s face. Start of the second minute and Sophia lets out a squeal when her cheek takes another left-right combination in rapid fashion, which shoves her dangerously towards the ropes with a grunt. Bush is trying to hold onto her balance but finds Emma constantly in her face, pressuring her backwards. The Girls Friday starlet eats another stiff shot to the nose and that seems to have done the trick! Sophia lolling about, looking groggy! She stumbles to the side and then collapses to the ground! It’s a return KNOCKDOWN for Emma Watson in the second minute! Bush breathing hard on all fours, trying to push herself up but failing to stabilise herself each time. Referee slow-counts her all the way to ten, and waves it off! Watson wins her revenge in time for tea!
Official Decision: Emma Watson defeats Sophia Bush via KO6!
AFTER: Watson with a confident raise of the hand, dashing that wide as she jogs back to her corner. The sultry Brit might have won the Flyweight title close to three years ago but she sure as hell looks way before her prime after tonight’s victory. She grins for the cameras later on, her dirty blonde hair worn thick and straight over her shoulder straps.
“I’m back and ready for another run at that title. Holt can keep that useless AMD belt. I want the real thing,” Emma says.
Later, she heads over to Sophia’s corner to check on her once-foe. Despite their not-so-pleasant words exchanged prior, the two ladies are cordial in the post-fight, sharing a brief hug and promises to do this all over again, if they get the chance.
“She’s certainly a different fighter compared to the last time we fought,” Bush says to reporters later on. “Hit harder, fought more unpredictably. But maybe that’s why we’re on equal footing now. Neither of us has proven to be better than the other. We’ll definitely do this a third time.” |
