Before:
Flyweight action sees perhaps the hottest bantamweight taking on a stumbling former contender as Cree Cicchino of IBB takes on Katherine McNamara of Fates. Cicchino had a stellar 2021 at 15-3 and is 6-3 for 2022. McNamara was in the flyweight title picture, but after a 4-6 record in 2021 and 2022 combined, the redhead is looking less serious, but a win tonight could vault her up in the rankings.
The two girls keep their comments short before the fight.
“I’ve respected what Katherine’s done at Fates,” Cree says, “But this is my time, and I will win.”
“I know this has been a tough year for me,” Katherine says, “But I’m going to bring it tonight.”
Cicchino comes to the ring wearing a black bikini set with matching gloves and McNamara wears a blue bikini set with orange gloves. The two girls touch gloves and the bell rings for ten rounds of flyweight action.
Round 1: Katherine and Cree are quick to get out of their corners and both girls trade jabs out of the gates. McNamara gets the upper hand early, using her reach advantage to work the IBB girl back into the ropes. Kat lands a pair of body blows before Cree clinches, and the ref is forced to break. Cicchino is cautious after the restart, keeping her distance from the redhead. McNamara pushing the tempo, working her jab and forcing Cicchino to be on her heels. Cree protecting her head and Kat works on her foe’s guard. Cicchino starts to counter, finding rights and lefts when McNamara gets too aggressive. Cree works two rights into Kat’s ribs and the two girls get tangled to force a break. The ref steps in again and the two girls are separated. The final seconds pass with the two girls trading blows. The bell rings and the two girls go back to their corners. Kat takes the first round on points, wide.
Round 2: The second rounds starts the same as the first, but Cicchino knows McNamara’s strategy. Kat shoots out a right but Cree isn’t home, and the younger actress goes body, burying leather into the redhead’s midriff. McNamara winces as she covers up and blocks Cicchino’s blows aimed at her head, but Cree shifts her focus back to the redhead’s ribs. Cree landing solid blows into Kat’s ribs and she works the older girl into the ropes early. McNamara is quick on the clinch to force a break, and the two girls start circling. Cree darting in close as Kat works her jab, landing a blow to her foe’s face and following up with a pair of body shots. Cree quick to step back and force Katherine to chase after her. Cicchino ducks a right and connects with a left as the time expires. The second round goes to Cree on points, wide.
Round 3: Cree continues where she left off, the IBB girl working around Kat’s jabs and working the redhead’s flanks. Cicchino keeping it textbook, darting in and out before McNamara has the chance to fire back. Katherine getting frustrated, the redhead throwing herself onto Cree to force a break. The ref steps in and separates the two girls. Kat lands a jab out of the break and Cree is forced to retreat. McNamara follows up with a pair of blows to the IBB girl’s ribs, but she can’t break down the younger girl’s guard and Cicchino works the counter. Cree landing a straight into Kat’s nose that stuns the redhead, and Cicchino follows up with a pair of strikes the force McNamara back. Kat covering her face as the brunette goes body in the final seconds, and the bell rings to bring the round to a close.
Round 4: McNamara gets a talking to in her corner and the redhead comes out and lands a solid left early, knocking Cicchino backward. Katherine goes with her jabs, steadily working the smaller girl backward and into the ropes. Cree clinches to force a break, and the ref pulls the two girls apart. Cree quick to fire back on the restart and tags Kat in her mouth. Cicchino follows up into McNamara’s body, landing a pair of blows into her midriff, but McNamara quickly finds her own offense and pounds a left into Cicchino’s torso. Cree winces and protects her head as Katherine shifts her focus to pounding her foe’s body. Kat pounding Cree’s ribs and knocking the younger girl back, but Cicchino plants her feet at the end of the round and drills the redhead with a right. The bell rings and Kat takes the fourth.
Round 5: Cree and Katherine charge out of their corners and McNamara gets her way early on, the redhead using her size to her advantage. Kat lands a big right into Cree’s mouth and a left into her chest, knocking the IBB girl backward. Cicchino plants her feet and drills McNamara with a right and the fifth round turns into a slugfest with both girls trading blows furiously into the other girl’s body. McNamara struggling as Cicchino moves the fight to close quarters and the smaller girl rattles off a series of strikes that force the Fates girl to clinch. Cree closes distance out of the break but Katherine is ready, the redhead sticking and shifting to keep the younger girl at a distance. McNamara goes for her jabs, but Cicchino gets out of range and the bell rings. The fifth goes down as a tie between the two girls.
Round 6: The two girls start the back half of the fight with plenty of energy and Kat goes for the big knockout blow early, swinging for the fences. Cree deftly ducks a left from Katherine and stuns the redhead with a left hook across her jaw! McNamara sways on her legs and on comes Cicchino! Cree sees her chances and buries lefts and rights into Katherine’s ribs and face, the redhead protecting her head on instinct and Cree goes to candyland. The strikes thump into Kat’s torso and Cree buries a right that makes Kat shout out and her guard open up. Cicchino lines up the uppercut and sends McNamara crashing to the sand. Katherine’s arms move around weakly as the redhead rolls herself onto her stomach, but she doesn’t have the strength to get to all fours or beat the count. Your winner by KO6, Cree Cicchino!
After: Cicchino takes a victory lap as McNamara is tended to by the Fates staff before being ushered out of the ring. Cree celebrates with the IBB staff as the actress continues to take the division to task. Katherine meanwhile has not won in six months and Fates is known for cutting underperforming fighters.
Cree all smiles when she goes to the post-fight press conference, and the IBB girl grabs a mic, “I’m here to make sure every flyweight knows I am going to get that title. Kat was bigger than I am and a still took her down. I am not going to stop until I get that title.”
Katherine walks by the press conference, but the redhead’s too busy wiping her eyes to provide a comment. |
