Malu Trevejo v. Jenny McCarthy

Publicly, Jenny Mac all bluster and swagger - acting like Jaquar title is beneath her and she is doing organizers a favor by competing, “Jaguars? Cougars? They can all stay in the jungle in Africa for all I care … I got bigger game in mind, like Olsen and that bantamweight strap! But figure I’ll take a couple fights to keep busy before going after the title.” Privately, Jenny desperately aware that the window of her relevance is closing rapidly and she needs SOMETHING … ANYTHING … to make a splash, and the Jaguar title could be it.

For her part, Malu Trevejo just getting started and career is off to a very promising 5-1 start! She’s following a well established path in boxing, run up a little streak fighting ham and eggers, now look to add the name of an aging faded star and former champ to the ledger - wags noting that Malu was about seven years old when Jenny won her one (and only) bantamweight title.

Boys in the know making Mac a slight favorite - taller, bigger - a true bantam, (much) more experienced, bigger puncher, and unpredictable - these factors expected to outweigh Malu’s youth, stamina and speed.

Fight Night: Malu to ring first - Latina knockout indeed in teal sports bra, boy shorts, matching boots and gloves - to raucous cheers from Cuban crowd and backed by thundering Miami Sound Machine … “Get on your feet … come on let’s make it happen!” … accompanied by Latina Knockouts head trainer Selma Hayek.

Some boos as music system segues to thumping base and Bobby Darrin crooning “Oh, the shark, babe … has such teeth dear!” announcing Jenny “Mac the Knife” McCarthy, seconded by Big Bad Gena Lee Nolin (J-Mac has not been working with Scrubby McGee as two thick headed micks have STILL not ironed out their differences!).

Round 1: Malu out of corner like shot out of cannon, sprints across corner, lands left right to McCarthy face then skips back as flustered blonde firec back with overhand right and wild left hook (both missing). Cuban bombshell intense expression, dukes high, working perimeter, now jabbing but Mac unpacks her own jab and is winning exchanges with her greater reach. Malu responds with foot work, using speed to prevent older woman from getting set. Side to side, sudden changes of directions, jabbing and occasionally flashing lightning right hand lead which knocks Playmate head back. Jenny frustrated and taking some punishment, lowers head, bulls forward and clinches. Holding and hitting from both women, tough grinding style favors the bigger blonde until Latin fighter works hand free and clips her with an uppercut inside which puts a shimmy in Jenny Mac’s knees and draws huge roar from the crowd. Jenny clinshing in earnest now as round closes - big first round to Malu Trevejo!

Round 2: In Sceej corner, Big Bad Gena Lee goading McCarthy, “C’mon! Get rough with this punk!”. J-Mac out of corner with dukes at her chin, bobbing and weaving, chasing fleet footed brunette - frustrated by younger woman’s foot speed and occasionally stunned with rapier like jab. Nolin calling for patience - never a McCarthy strong suit - but Playmate stalks her Cuban prey, occasionally lashing out with left hook. Late in the round, Jenny steps right to cut of circling, bulls Malu to corner, and pounds away! Left right left … first body, then head, finishing with body … Trevejo looking to fight way out but being bullied by larger blonde. Its a rough final minute as Latin fighter takes a beatdown in the corner - Mac forcing eye contact at the bell and rewarded with a two handed shove - still plenty of fire in Cuban fighter - but round to the blonde!

Round 3-4: Malu Trevejo able to dominate the third and most of the fourth by sticking with what works - speed speed speed. Circling older blonde, not letting her set, tormenting her with jab and then kraken her with straight right when goading her into bull rushes. At one point, Mac loads up big right hand, swings and Malu ducks under and slips away - Selma Hayak shouts “Ole!” and draws a roar from the crowd. It’s all Latina’s way until late in the fourth when she gets careless and tagged with a crushing left hooks to jaw that buckles her knees and has her clinching for dear life.

Round 5: Malu gets the riot act from Hayak in the corner, nodding as she is scolded to “Stay focused!”. Brunette out of corner laser focused - Playmate looking to build on the one big shot but it is not happening. Slick boxing Cuban inducing wild swings and misses, methodically exhausting the older woman. Mid round and J-Mac with an empty tank - Malu feigns jab, and cracks right hand to the temple, follow up left hook to the jaw and JENNY IS PUT ON HER ASS! Sits staring wide eyed - Raggedy Ann with all the stuffing knocked out! J-Mac wearily to her feet at “7” and Malu is all over her!!! Left right to the body … double left hook to jaw has blonde head on a toggle … straight right knocking head back … referee taking a close look … Mac not fighting back as Malu piles on the punishment … AND THERE’S THE TOWEL!!! Gena Lee Nolin throws in the towel. No complaint from Jenny McCarthy who does not seem to know where she is? Malu Trevejo continues her red hot run and adds the scalp of a former bantamweight champion to her totem pole - winner by TKO in the fifth - Malu Trejevo!
