BEFORE: "I'm doing this redhead bimbo a massive favor so don't tell me I should be targeting more qualified opponents!", Nina Dobrev shoots down all the media noise about a rather strange match-up against Madelaine Petsch who has hardly set the boxing universe on fire so far. The South African born actress isn't exactly the second coming of Charlize Theron and she even lost to genuine flyweights before so it's anyone's guess what is Dobrev's plan here? Oh yeah, there's this Tractorpull Hall of Fame thing on the horizon with Nina only six fights away from meeting the last required standard. Might as well hit the sacrificial lamb button allthough Petsch pushed Lily Collins seven rounds last month after all.

Nina Dobrev wears a navy blue bikini set & silver gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a braid. Madelaine Petsch wears a neon green bikini set & black gloves. Long carrot red hair tied in a loose bun at the back of her head. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.

Rounds 1 & 2:
Nina gives the redhead a hard learning curve in the early stages as she pummels her around from both flanks and steps into a major jabbing attack that catches the younger actress by surprise. If Maddy expected Nina to take it easy here, she's in for a rude awakening as the brunette racks up several clean hits upstairs and forces the redhead into hectic retreat in both rounds. Nothing doing on the counter either and Madelaine's best asset on display is her footwork as she has to yield real estate hand over first and must consider herself fortunate she didn't soak up more damage but Dobrev still taunts her over lack of pure aggression.

Rounds 3 & 4:
Maddy gets back to a meaningful contention when she finally matches Nina's jabbing production and triggers a crowd pleasing exchange in the center of the ring. Nina takes a couple of nasty hits on the jaw but then she taunts the redhead "who punches like a girl" that really puts the free agent on notice. Petsch fires several hard licks up the middle and clips Dobrev's boobs in the process but she only cashes in late in the fourth when she plugs a hard one-two on the solar plexus and SHOCKS the audience with a booming left hook on the ear that DROPS NINA FOR THE COUNT!!! Lioness coach Eva Mendes can't believe how the things spun out of control here and the Bulgarian Badass also realizes she should have never eased off the gas to let Petsch back into the fight. She beats the count at seven and runs out the clock to avoid upset of the night outcome.

Round 5:
Madelaine keeps the jabbing pressure going and neutralizes Nina's otherwise expected comeback. The first minute provides all the fireworks with both girls trading hard leather in the center of the ring but a clash of heads throws the free agent off her stance and she fails to strike back to the body as she makes a gallant effort to thump Dobrev's cleavage. The former champion fends off the attacks and clips the redhead's jaw with a steady uppercut response in the closing stages but coach Mendes is still unhappy with the overall performance.

Round 6:
Nina finally lets it rip like a genuine Top 10 ranked fighter should and she smacks Madelaine from each side before looping a quick double on the temples. Petsch tries to slug it from the inside but walks into a jug-bursting series and Dobrev barks in her face when she unleashes a superior hooking drive to dissect the high guard on the spot. Maddy tries to clinch the older woman but Nina works her mitts on speed dial to knock her on the heels... she flies in with a hard left on the nose and then drops a drilling combo on the solar plexus that SENDS PETSCH DOWN FOR THE COUNT!!! Uh-oh!!! The free agent spits her gumshield out and remains down on all fours during the count... she just can't find her breath back here and gets duly counted out! KO6 Nina Dobrev in come-from-behind fashion!!!

AFTER: Hold off the 'Theron lite' hype as Maddy just couldn't profit from that early knockdown and fell to the more experienced opponent in the end. There's a lot to like about Petsch's performance but maybe Dobrev simply underestimated her and contributed to the free agent's above average showing tonight. LCA coach Eva Mendes isn't happy about this one at all but sometimes you have to accept "ugly wins" as well.
