Maya Jama vs Belen Rodriguez

BEFORE: There was a time when Maya Jama was supposed to take over as the Beevers' new elite weapon but after she struggled for results at the Contender Six event something clearly went wrong for the Bristol TV presenter. She failed to inspire much hope on her comeback either - falling to Marloes Horst in three rounds - and most pundits believe she comes in as outsider versus the dangerous Belen Rodriguez whose punching power has claimed several high-profile victims before.

Maya reckons she can still short cut her way into immediate contention as the Beevers' stable remains the BBU royalty but she's basically chasing her own tail trying to secure a borderline elite scalp while coming off five straight defeats in the ring. Belen was knocked out by Dua Lipa only eight weeks ago but even Denise van Outen doesn't bother comparing Maya to the Girls Friday singer here.

Maya Jama wears a black crop top, jeans shorts & red gloves. Long black hair tied in a braid. Belen Rodriguez wears a black bikini set & blue gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a custom ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.

Round 1:
Maya follows through with some early jabs and tries to inject immediate pace into her striking but Belen isn't exactly your random statesque model and she can find the speedy response if she has to so she triggers a quick back & forth exchange that leaves both women taking some punishment much to the crowd's delight. Belen manages to deliver the superior combo and slams Maya on the chin which forces the TV presenter back upon impact. Beevers coach Denise Lewis wants her fighter to stay in the zone but it's hard to ignore Belen's punching skills that are aimed straight up to knock the Brit's head off and send Jama into a hectic retreat come the final minute when she realizes this aggressive plan might backfire sooner rather than later. Belen yells back at the reeling opponent but avoids the careless approach and settles to ride out the clock to take the round on points.

Round 2:
Maya seeks immediate response but gets sucked into a head-hunting vacuum that knocks her head back again while Belen doesn't even have to alter her targets as she racks up more cleans hits into the presenter's face and makes her look awfully mediocre on defense. Denise Lewis doesn't like it but Maya is brave enough to drag the slugging exchange into the second minute when she finally catches Rodriguez off guard by dropping a quick bomb on the navel and moves in to clip her breasts on the follow through. She closes the model down and almost headbutts her in the process before a left-on-left tangle drills Belen on the nose and makes her gurgle in anger. Another hooking combo tags her on each temple shortly afterwards and Jama carries the round on points to recover her poise much sooner than most fans anticipated.

Round 3:
Belen steps up to deliver the slugging drill so there's more back & forth thumping on display but this time it comes with physical damage as Maya gets cut across the nasal ridge and begins to leak more clean hits around her face again. Belen sticks her mitts on target and shows no signs of letting her foot off the gas which allows her to bundle the Bristol woman back to the ropes where she finally whacks her to the body. Ugh! Maya didn't see that change coming and she slumps into a lenghty clinching stalemate after taking more shots downstairs while the Argentine model just scrubs it off in aggressive fashion and dumps the British foe onto the turnbuckle before blasting a chin-checking double right at the bell to underline her dominance.

Round 4:
More slugging drama early in the fourth but it's Maya who finds a way to cut the other woman up as she blasts her across the nose and then rips a right hook on the jaw. Belen wobbles forward and gets punked by a vicious cross that leaves a bloody gash on the nasal ridge and triggers a gung-ho exchange in the middle of the ring. Both women seem to take it personal and Maya hangs on to knock Belen's head back before she shoots wide with the intended slam dunk and wobbles forward to take a shoulder barge in the breasts which allows the older brunette to slam a vicious left/right combo on the temples moments later. Maya gets stuck on her heels and fails to react when Rodriguez SMOKES her with a powerful right hook that spills immediate blood from the nostrils. AND DOWN GOES JAMA... she crashes onto her knees with a loud whimper and ends up on all fours when the count reaches seven... just as the clock expires and saves her from looming disaster. Uh-oh!!! Belen thinks she's won it right here but that's not what the rulebook says.

Round 5:
Maya's nose got patched up during the break but Belen enforces another head-hunting tangle and spills the red paint seconds into the fifth as the trademark Beevers slugging plan blows straight into Jama's face... quite literally! She gets pounded into more bloody mess and begins to shout in a mix of anger and pain while the older brunette simply takes it to the house and sprinkles blood all over the ring to the point the REF STEPS IN to halt the vicious beating with Maya stumbling back to the ropes and looking like a Halloween costume sketch. Ugh! Denise Lewis is furious but even the ring doctor is worried that Maya suffered some major facial damage here so the fight is duly called off on medical grounds. TKO5 Belen Rodriguez!!!

AFTER: Maya is visibly upset over the decision and claims she could continue to duke it out until the lights are shut off but she has to swallow her pride in the end. However she won't go down quietly and vows to make a quick return to the ring versus Belen or any other airhead model that is brave enough to face her! That shouldn't be a problem as the Beevers are always in schedule demand meanwhile the Argentine brunette is happy to separate more "contenders from pretenders" and claims to be the best lightweight free agent in the entire BBU: "If I had a proper management I'd be sitting on the throne for a while yet. That dumb cow Holly Peers is the current champion and I'm way better than her anyway! Everyone knows that! Grr..."
