2. Won-young Jang vs. Suzy Bae
Won-young: (18, 5’8, BBU Debut, Free Agent)
Suzy: (28, 5’6, BBU Debut, Free Agent)
BEFORE: Held in a lavish hall with ornate chandeliers and a heavy media presence, the stage was set for the next fight in tonight’s special SIRENs event. Suzy Bae, with a decade of experience in the entertainment industry, gracefully stepped up to the microphone. Her elegance juxtaposed against her determined expression.
“I respect all fighters who step into the ring. However, respect is a two-way street. Today's youth, especially Won-young, need to learn it. This match is not just about boxing for me; it's about teaching the next generation to respect their betters.”
The room's temperature seemingly dropped a few degrees as the cameras panned to Won-young. Rising to challenge the statement, the younger fighter retorted, “Respect is earned, not handed out. Tomorrow, I'll earn my respect when I beat Suzy.”
With the memory of Kazuha's dramatic fight fresh in everyone's mind, anticipation for the next bout was sky-high. The younger, more aggressive Won-young entered first, storming in with energy and intensity. Her outfit, a silver sports bra with black trim and matching shorts, shimmered under the lights. Her fans cheered wildly, waving banners adorned with her image.
In contrast, Suzy’s entrance was a picture of serenity. Wearing a dark blue velvet top paired with silver boxing shorts, she looked focused. While her entrance music was melodious, the thumping beats signaled her readiness for battle.
ROUNDS 1-2: At the bell, Suzy, capitalizing on her experience, takes the center of the ring, displaying her measured and cautious style. She opens with a light jab, more to gauge Won-young's distance than to do damage. The youngster, however, with all the fire of youth, lunges forward, attempting to force Suzy onto the back foot with a series of aggressive swings towards her head. Suzy's defense is impeccable. Having been warned about Won-young’s insolent ways and anticipating her aggression, every punch thrown by the younger opponent is either parried or deftly sidestepped. As the round progresses, Suzy begins countering Won-young’s advances with precise and effective jabs to her face and hooks to the body.
And the second is no different! Buoyed by her success in the opening round, Suzy keeps up the pressure. She is a picture of concentration, waiting for the right moments to strike. Won-young, to her credit, isn't backing down, trying to still impose her energy, darting in and out, throwing combinations at the older woman. However, Suzy’s experience shows, having lived longer and becoming more keen to these dirty tactics. She counters with a solid right cross that finds its mark on Won-young's cheek, causing a noticeable red mark and a yelp from her lips. Each time Won-young attempts to corner Suzy against the ropes or turnbuckle, the older fighter pivots, placing her opponent back in the line of fire.
Despite Won-young’s valiant efforts, Suzy’s tactical gameplay and sharper punches ensure she convincingly takes both rounds. The crowd, sensing the display of measured control from Suzy, begins showing their appreciation with a mix of applause and anticipatory murmurs.
ROUND 3: The bell dings and Won-young bursts out of her corner with renewed energy, clearly determined to regain lost ground. With a focused glare, she jabs twice at Suzy’s midsection, but Suzy immediately counters with a left hook which the younger boxer anticipates and ducks, evading the blow by the skin of her teeth. Taking advantage of her foe’s momentary imbalance from the missed punch, Won-young lunges, landing a solid uppercut right back on Suzy's chin! The force sends Suzy’s head snapping back, and she stumbles a couple of steps. Regaining her footing, Suzy circles to her left, wary now of the teenager's speed and power. Won-young, sensing an opening, gets bolder. She targets Suzy's ribs with quick hooks, each thud sailing in under the arms and eliciting a wince from the older fighter. However, Suzy is not out yet; she manages to catch Won-young with a right cross late in the game to her temple, causing the youngster to briefly falter. The round continues in a tense dance – a series of exchanges, dodges, and quick footwork. But it's Won-young's aggression and the efficiency of her punches that give her the edge this time. As the bell rings, signaling the end of the round, it’s clear to the onlookers: this round goes to Jang Won-young. Suzy retreats to her corner, visibly taking deep breaths, as she braces herself for the coming fight
ROUND 4: But Suzy seems revitalized here in the fourth! Her eyes lock onto Won-young, and from the get-go, forcing Won-young to the peripheries with swift one-two combos, hounding the youngster’s pretty face with that constant stream of attack. Another sharp jab slams into Won-young's forehead, followed by a forceful straight to her nose, forcing a loud yelp from the younger fighter, who’s not yet used to having plastic surgery forced upon her. She’s trying to defend herself, but that guard is all over the place and growing more panicked by the minute, with her head whipping back and to the side as another left-right combination cuts in. Before she can recover, Suzy switches her focus, digging a powerful left hook into the younger fighter's exposed ribs. A gasp escapes Won-young as she instinctively covers her midsection, trying to protect herself from the constant pressure. But Suzy doesn't let up. Using her experience, she mixes up her punches, keeping Won-young guessing. Another hard right cross finds its mark on Won-young's temple, causing her to wobble slightly and back into the ropes. Suzy, sensing her opportunity, storms in and sends another flurry of punches towards the young fighter's body, each thud echoing through the hall. Won-young, trying to find reprieve, attempts to clinch, but Suzy side steps, pushing her opponent off and continuing her offensive. The round ends with Won-young visibly battered, desperately holding onto the ropes for support as she makes her way back to her corner. Suzy, with her chest heaving from the exertion, stands tall, clearly having dominated that round!
ROUND 5: Suzy, after her dominating performance in the previous round, might have expected an easier time against a seemingly weakened Won-young. However, the young fighter comes out with a fire in her eyes and a clear sense of urgency. Immediately, Won-young advances, attempting to dictate the pace instead. It’s a rare occasion in Korean culture for the younger generation to lead, but here in the boxing ring might be one of the few occasions they can dictate the pace without social repercussions. Jang throws a quick left hook which Suzy narrowly ducks, but before she can retaliate, another of Won-young's right uppercuts rockets upwards, grazing against Suzy's chin. The older actress lets out a grunt before stumbling back a step, her eyes flashing with surprise. Reinvigorated, Won-young launches into a series of combinations: a jab-cross to Suzy's face, a third swift hook to her side, and then a powerful straight cross hits her to the sternum, trying to make up for lost points. Suzy, suddenly on the defensive, uses her guard to protect her head, but some of the punches find their mark, eliciting grunts of discomfort. The older fighter, showing her resilience, tries to create space, moving laterally and using her reach to keep the aggressive teenager at bay. But Won-young isn't letting up, pressing the attack, trying to turn the tide of the fight. As the round comes to a close, both fighters are drenched in sweat, breathing heavily. Won-young, despite her fervent attack, still shows signs of the damage from earlier rounds, while Suzy seems to have lost a bit of her earlier momentum! It might be anyone’s game going forward!
ROUND 6: Suzy, feeling the weight of the previous round's onslaught but determined to regain control, steps forth into the center with purpose. For the first minute, it's as if the previous round never happened, with Bae using her footwork to dart in and out of Won-young's range. She lands a solid jab-cross combo that snaps Won-young's head back, followed by a nasty body shot that makes the younger fighter wince and clutch at her tummy. But just as things seem to be going in Suzy's favor, a shift occurs. Won-young manages to slip a jab, her head and body moving slickly to the side. There’s a knowing glint in her eye as her right hand is already pulled back, ready to strike, with a devastating right cross then SMACKS into Suzy's temple! The hit visibly rattles her, with her legs momentarily turning to jelly. Sensing blood, Won-young ups her aggression! Won-young chases her down, connecting with brutal hooks that thump into Suzy's ribs, followed by an uppercut that STUNS her head upwards with a dull groan. The rest of the actress’ body immediately appears to sag, as though her strings were cut, and DOWN BAE GOES, crashing onto the canvas in a heap! The crowd gasps at the sudden KNOCKDOWN for the youngster!
For a few tense seconds, it's uncertain if Suzy will rise. But as the referee herds Won-young to the neutral corner, Bae starts to stir, slowly pulling her head and back off the ground, before pushing herself to her feet just before the count of eight! Her face, however, is screwed up tight with a mixture of both determination and fatigue!
Meanwhile, Won-young has that insufferable glint back in her eyes, the same look that has rubbed countless of other fellow idols and fans the wrong way. She sees her chance to finish what she started, and with a minute left on the clock, she doesn't wait this time. At the ding of the bell, she CHARGES, driving the dazed Suzy back towards the ropes with a frenzied barrage of punches. Lefts, rights, hooks, and uppercuts, each aimed with precision, rattle Suzy's already bruised head and midsection. A vicious left hook connects with Suzy's temple, stumbling her against the ropes, before a subsequent hard hook to her gut proves to be the breaking point! That double-header seems to be it! Suzy’s arms drop and she sags against the ropes, her guard completely lowered and her consciousness fading! Won-young doesn’t care, torching her face to the side with another blatant hook before the referee chooses to intervene, stepping in to cover the dazed actress from further harm! That’s it! This fight is OVER!
Official Result: Won-young Jang defeats Suzy Bae via KO6!
AFTER: In the immediate aftermath, Suzy, every bit the valiant warrior, although beaten, is not broken. Her legs buckle beneath her, causing her to collapse into the referee's embrace. Concerned cornermen rush to her aid, guiding her to her stool and checking for any serious injuries.
In stark contrast, the center of the ring illuminates with the triumphant glow of Jang Won-young. Any previous indications of bruises and fatigue are momentarily forgotten as she revels in her victory, her wide, cocky smile plastered on her face. In her excitement, she launches into a wild celebratory dance, no doubt one of her many choreographed sequences as part of her idol group, IVE, perfectly synchronized with the victory music blasting through the speakers.
Much later, as the fighters make their way to the press area, the chatter of the journalists is nearly deafening, each eager to get the first words from the combatants.
Won-young first faces the cameras, her cocky smile used to the attention by now. "I told everyone I would win. And I did, didn't I?" she boasts. "I'll keep on winning and being better than all the other idols out there, and I’ll do it because my fans believe in me. You can count on that."
Suzy, though visibly exhausted and marked from the battle, still possesses the fire of determination in her eyes. She responds calmly, her voice carrying a note of steely resolve, "She had her moment tonight. But remember this – every young upstart has their day. Won-young will get her comeuppance. And when that day comes, I'll be watching."
