Before: “I’m always glad to get a fight,” says Sasha Pieterse, “and I think I have built a decent record for myself over the years. I am 1-1 this year. I think I have a good shot against Samara.
“I think Sasha is often overlooked by PLP fans. Winning over half of 35 fights in 8 years makes her just what I’ve been looking for. She’s a bit bigger than me (5’6 to Samaras 5’4 ½) but I like the challenge. I’m 2-2 right now. I am eager to go over .500. This is the fight that could do it.
Fight Night finds Sasha entering ring in a midnight blue one piece swimsuit with light blue gloves and boots (dark blue laces). her pair is pulled lback in a battle braid. Samara is in a black one piece swimsuit with white gloves and boots (black laces), hair in battle braid. The ring instructions proceed smoothly. Gloves are quickly tapped and fighters go to their corners. Ding! Ding! The bell rings….
R1: Sasha immediately crowds in on Samara with short rights and lefts to the ribs, stomach and breasts. Samara trying to pull back, but Sasha stays in tight. After pounding away to the midsection and keeping Samara in retreat, Sasha now starts clipping away at Samara’s chin. Samara with her gloves up close around her head for protection, but Sasha working over Samara’s torso again and again. Round ends with Samara moving stiffly to her corner and Sasha looking pleased as she wins the opener wide.
R2: Samara out much more quickly this time and greets Sasha with a smashing right/left combo to the jaw. Sasha thrown onto to the defensive as Samara follows with more shots to the head. Sasha trying to protect her head and strike back, but isn’t getting much out in the way of counters.. Then Samara starts whacking deep hooks into Sasha’s rib cage and stomach. Sasha gurgling as the sustained punching tears into her abs. Sasha all hunched up and defensive as the round ends. Sam’ara Weaving scores a wide win.
R3: Sasha tries to get out quickly, but Sanara has the same idea. They reach center ring and start heaving head shots. Both connect, but Samara’s seems to have more impact. Sasha shuddering, back up as her legs quiver and she keeps her gloves high. This is the signal for Saara to go at Sasha to the body with full force. Hooks driving in deep, slashing into ribs and coming up to the undersides of Sasha’s breasts. Sasha looks to be in trouble as she tries to back away but Samara not letting that happen. She punches Sasha again and again until she has forced her back into the ropes. Then Sasha goes to the belly over and over. Sasha’s knees buckle. Samara pours the hurt to Sasha’s abs. Suddenly Sasha gives a despairing groan as her knees give out and SASHA PIERTERSE GOES DOWN! Sasha with her arms wrapped around her agonized midsection, Samara had headed for the neutral corner. Referee is counting. Sasha tries to use ropes to get back on her feet, but her legs won’t support. She sinks back to her knees bows her head in dejection aa referee goes:
“EIGHT!...NINE!....TEN!...OUT!”
THE WINNER: SAMARA WEAVING KO3!
After: “I just sensed I could beat her if I went to the body often enough. I gave those punches all the power I could and you saw what they did to her. I was a little surprised I broke her down in 3, but that’s what happened. So I am very happy how this went.”
“I thought I was tougher than that,” Sasha Piterse laments, “but she had power and she seemed to know where to do the most damage. I’ll be on ice packs for a week. Too soon to say what this means in the long run for me. Change of tactics. Better conditioning. We’ll see. Right now I just want to rest.”
Dominating win for Samara Weaving. Although Sasha Pieterse did give her good beating in R1, Samara came back and beat Sasha down in 2. Samara stands at 3-2 for the year and prospects are looking good for her. Fight a setback for Sasha, though as she slips to 1-2 and her immediate prospects seem uncertain. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens with both of these young fighters.
