Ana de Armas vs Alyson Michalka

(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Ana de Armas
(34, 5’6, 11-4 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Alyson Michalka
(33, 5’8, 33-22 FCBA, Empire Boxing)

Pre-Fight: Up next, League of Mighty Women’s resident fighter Ana de Armas will be facing Empire Boxing’s recent signing Alyson Michalka. Ana will be making her third appearance of her residency with LMW after winning her first match and then losing to Michelle Williams in her last one, so she will be looking to bounce back from that loss. Alyson, on the other hand, will be making her debut for her new stable and she will be looking to make a winning start.
As we are getting ready for the pre-fight press conference, LMW’s executive director, Sharon Horgan, whispers something in Ana’s ear. After that brief delay, Ana addresses the audience. “I was just told that my residence has been extended until the end of the year. It doesn’t really change anything for me though. I always want to win anyway and I will do so against Alyson. I don’t care if she was a champion for a minute back in the day. There is no way she is winning this one!”
Alyson doesn’t seem impressed. “Here is the difference, I was at least the champion once, unlike you, so I don’t care what you think. Plus, I’m still more relevant in this league. I got signed right away to a new stable, while you struggle with this residency. Speaking of which, they will regret extending it when I’m done with you!” Alyson smirks as she sees that she angered her opponent with her remark. Ana looks like she is fuming as she stares at her opponent, but Alyson ignores her and walks off the stage as the press conference comes to an end.
It is fight night and Ana makes her entrance first. She is accompanied by her coach Gillian Anderson. She waves and blows kisses to the fans as they cheer for her on her way to the ring. Once inside, she goes over her warmup routine as she listens to her coach.
She is wearing a red sports bra and matching trunks, combined with blue gloves and boots, while her hair is tied into double Dutch braids.
Alyson comes out next, walking down the aisle with her coach, Jaime Pressly, accompanying her. She waves to the fans cheering for her, but her demeanor changes as she enters the ring and gives her opponent a cold-eyed stare.
She is wearing a white sports bra and matching trunks, combined with silver gloves and boots, while her hair is loosely tied into a ponytail.
Both fighters come to the center of the ring to receive final instructions from the referee and then they proceed to touch gloves. However, there is clearly some tension there as Alyson comes unnecessarily close and looks down at her opponent, while Ana answers that with a little extra push during the touch of gloves. They won’t have to wait for long to settle their differences though as they step back to their corners. We are ready for 10 rounds of bantamweight action!
Fight: Round 1: The bell rings and we get into the action immediately as both fighters rush to the center of the ring, ready to trade some leather. Alyson scores with a jab-straight combo during the approach, but it doesn’t slow down Ana, who gets inside to land a couple of hooks to the ribs. Neither fighter backs down as Ana hits a few more body shots before Alyson shoves her and lands another one-two combination of her own. Ana ducks under the hook attempt though and gets inside again to land a lead uppercut to the midsection, which finally forces Alyson to back down and end this opening flurry of activity.
Alyson switches to a more defensive style and tries to establish a defensive jab, but Ana is not willing to slow things down and give up on her advantage, so she presses forward and gets inside to land some body shots. Ana sticks to this formula for the rest of the opening round and wins it comfortably.
Round 2: Looks like Alyson is sticking with the defensive approach as she makes a more cautious start to this round, while Ana is happy to be the aggressor again early on. The Cuban fighter takes a jab as she steps in and then returns the favor with some shovel hooks to the midsection. Alyson hasn’t found a way to use her reach advantage yet, which limits her options and allows Ana to punish her from the inside with an aggressive style.
Things change as we enter the final minute of the second round with Ana expecting a defensive jab as she steps in, but Alyson lands an uppercut to the chin instead. That impact drives Ana back and Alyson quickly seizes the opportunity with a one-two combination. Ana raises her guard up in time to block a hook, but now she is the one who is forced to defend. Getting blocked up top, Alyson switches levels and lands a couple of hooks to the ribs followed by an uppercut to the abs. She switches targets again and lands a hook and a straight that forces Ana to step back towards the ropes, but she gets saved by the bell before Alyson can do any serious damage. Still, that last minute completely swayed the round in favor of Alyson, so they are tied up on the scorecards after two rounds.
Round 3: We are getting a slower start to the third round as Ana goes defensive this time and Alyson is not ready to commit to an all-out attack yet, so she keeps her distance and tags her opponent using her reach advantage. Ana seems to be still recovering and not willing to step in, which plays into Alyson’s strength, so the American fighter is content with landing single punches and short combinations from mid-range, while staying away from the Cuban’s reach. Alyson keeps racking up clean hits and Ana seems to be getting frustrated with her inability to find an answer to it as the round comes to a close.
After the bell, Alyson walks over to her corner with a smirk on her face, looking satisfied with her performance out there and she has every reason to feel like that as she is now leading this fight on points after a slow start. On the opposite corner, Ana looks a bit lost and in need of some direction from her coach, which Gillian is happy to provide. “There is no point staying within her reach, but not trying to go in. You need to be aggressive and get inside. Just try to switch up your rhythm and cut angles to create better opportunities of stepping in and make it count when you do so. You got this!”
Round 4: Both fighters are back on the attack, so we are getting another fast start. Alyson opens things up with a double jab-straight combo, but Ana is not deterred and she still gets inside to land right and left hooks to the body and then a right hook to the chin. That combination forces the American to back off, but not for long as she steps in and lands a straight. The next few shots get blocked on both sides, but Ana finally finds an opening when she fakes a left hook to the body and instead lands an uppercut with her right. The Cuban tries to follow it up with a big swing, but Alyson leans back in time to avoid it and then she steps back and starts circling around to recover for a bit. She lands some jabs and straights from the midrange to keep Ana away for a bit, but before long Ana steps in aggressively again to start another exchange. She lands a few shovel hooks to the body, but then Alyson shoves her away and scores with a one-two combination of her own. Rest of the round goes on with these small exchanges.
That was an action packed round with both fighters landing some good punches that did damage. However, Ana did just enough to edge her opponent to win the round narrowly on points. It is still anyone’s fight though.
Round 5: Both Alyson and Ana looked a bit winded during the break after that action packed fourth round, but once the bell rings, they are back at it as neither of them are willing to go down without a fight. Alyson uses her reach early on to land short combinations and keep her opponent away as long as possible, but soon Ana finds her way inside and starts blasting Alyson’s midsection with body shots. Alyson clinches with her opponent to slow her down. The referee ends up having to get involved and separate them.
Ana isn’t willing to let her opponent off the hook, figuratively and literally, as she steps back in and lands a couple of hooks to the ribs. Alyson winces and lowers her guard to protect her ribs after that last shot, but it leaves her chin open and Ana doesn’t waste a moment to capitalize on it. The Cuban fighter lands two big hooks to the chin that turns Alyson around and drops her down face first! Ana raises her fist as she walks over to the neutral corner, while the referee begins the count. 1…2…3… Alyson slowly pushes herself off the mat 4…5… she gets on all fours and takes a moment to clear her head 6…7…8… she gets up to her feet, ready to continue the fight. The referee quickly checks up on her and wipes her gloves before restarting the action.
Alyson raises her guard as she tries to survive the final minute of the round after getting knocked down. Ana tries to put pressure on her opponent as she clearly wants to get a finish before the bell rings. Alyson’s defense is holding up for now as she blocks Ana’s punches, but she is getting pushed back and she eventually ends up being backed into the ropes. Ana keeps throwing punches left and right to break down her opponent’s defenses and she starts finding openings as she starts to alternate between levels. A couple of hooks to the ribs and a few jabs and straights to the face drops Alyson’s defense completely. Alyson is barely standing with the help of the ropes and as Ana lands a couple of hooks to the chin with no defense coming from Alyson, the referee jumps in and stops the fight!
Official Result: Winner via TKO in round 5, Ana de Armas!
Post-Fight: “Who is done with who now, chica!?” Ana yells at a groggy Alyson and she keeps staring at her as the referee and Jaime help the American fighter get to her corner and sit down on the stool. Shortly after getting cleared by the medical staff, she leaves the ring with her coach and heads backstage. On the other side, Ana celebrates the win with her coach, Gillian.
After getting her hand raised by the referee, Ana takes the microphone to address the fans. “My victory in this match was never in doubt and now I stand here as the victor! Alyson’s time in the spotlight was in the past. It is my time now!”
It was a great performance by Ana as she celebrates the extension of her residency with a victory. Sharon must be relieved after this result as it could have looked bad for her if Ana lost after that announcement. As for Alyson, her debut for her new stable didn’t go as planned, but there were times she controlled the action, so she can build on that as she gets used to working with her new coaches.
