BEFORE:

IBB’s Lorella Boccia having to turn down a challenge from the Welterweight champ was a surprise to all, but quick replacement and second-in-the-running Hannah Ferguson is ALL smiles during the pre-fight presser.

“She should have picked me first, but I’m still not complaining,” Hannah smirks from the table. “I’ve beaten Robyn before, way back when she was a relative nobody. I don’t buy the ‘Godzilla’ hype one bit. She went down easily last time, and she’ll do so again.”

Robyn puffing out her chest in response, looking way more confident and secure in her abilities after years of being mistreated by the top fighters of the division.

“I think my record speaks for itself,” Lawley says, not looking tense at all, and referring to her extraordinary 14-0 record with no signs of slowing down. “I don’t aim to beat Big Red’s record, but want to mention it purely to shut Hannah up. She’s facing a different beast tonight, so she’d better be ready.”

Back in 2020, Hannah won their first bout via KO in six rounds. That would explain the Vixen’s general air of haughtiness when they face off at the podium moments later, turning her chin up to make herself look taller (she ain’t), and then placing her fists too close to Robyn’s thick torso and muscular arms. Lawley just staring back, confident and calm as a giant should be, all six feet and two inches of toned muscle showing off the work it took to make it through the Diamond Boxing derby this year, and coming out on top.

Later, in the ring, Hannah’s wearing an amber sports bra and white boxing trunks, stretching in black gloves. She raises a hand high when the official announces her name to the crowds. In the other corner, Robyn balances her significant weight from foot to foot, looking fit as a fiddle in a black sports bra and long blue tights. The champ is sporting orange gloves for this contest.

Referee waves for the bell and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Welterweight action! This here’s for the Unified Welterweight Title!

ROUND 1:

Plenty of over-aggression from Hannah to start, as the Vixen charges in as though picking up where she left off from their 2020 bout. Loud smacks of leather to the body and arms as the challenger initiates with the champ, hitting gloves off that thick torso and then occasionally going up high to hammer at the head. Robyn taking it and taking it, slow movements to the side but not looking ever like she’s in trouble here. Second minute, she calmly rips a hook right back at Hannah’s head, and it CONNECTS! UGH!! Hannah looks absolutely STUNNED with her eyes wide open and mouth hanging open! That right hand caught her clean on the chin, swiveling her clean to the side and almost off her feet! Godzilla is in THE HOUSE, ladies and gentlemen!! Rest of the round has Hannah on the retreat, as expected, trying to fend off more of Robyn’s killer moves. Lawley retakes lost ground, taking confident steps forward and just going to town on the former champion, and leaving Hannah breathing hard and battered when the bell finally rings. And it’s only the first round, folks!

ROUND 2:

Hannah underestimated Robyn’s power in their first fight, to her detriment. Now, she’s making the same mistakes and almost paid the price for it in that last round. Hannah stays back this time, still shellshocked by Robyn’s power, afraid of getting too close in case another errant hook sends her careening off her feet, over the top rope, and off into the rafters. Robyn is seen smirking as she comes in with confident steps, a couple at a time before blasting the Vixen to her arms to keep her moving along, moving along. Hannah looks helpless in the first minute, but then uses her speed and a little more agility than her counterpart to avoid those thick hands, returning fire with quick, snappy jab combos to the big girl’s face and torso. She’s scoring more points, sure, but those punches don’t seem to be making much of a dent. Bell rings and Hannah’s taken it wide this time, though her opponent doesn’t look at all in line with that result.

ROUND 3:

More of the same, as Robyn comes in, sure and steady, plowing straight hands into Hannah’s guard to send her stumbling backwards whenever the Vixen gets in too close. Hannah comes in harder and faster, always using aggression in the past to get around a dangerous obstacle. She weaves to the side of a big, lumbering uppercut from Lawley before planting one of her own into the big girl’s stomach, another blast to the arms earning her a loud grunt from the champion. But almost immediately, Robyn blasts her back with a hook of her own, catching Hannah on the side of her head and stunning her badly. Hannah looks dazed and barely gets out of the way of yet another big swing towards her head. The Vixen can only evade and counter for so long, and spends the rest of the round exchanging jabs with Robyn from a safer distance. At the bell, Hannah takes it close again, but doesn’t look too happy about her prospects going into the rest of this fight.

ROUND 4:

Robyn’s been soaking up some abuse but it’s not showing on her face, the Welterweight champ having gone through the gauntlet this year and coming out on top - she ain’t gonna let a little stick figure like Hannah Ferguson get in her way of all out glory. Hannah opting for jab combos towards the head and body, but gets caught in the crossfire when Robyn retaliates with long jabs of her own, her own reach advantage meaning she too can hang and bang with the Vixen. Hannah’s defenses are impeccable, sure, but getting frustrated when Robyn’s power comes into play, each jab hand and subsequent cross to the guard throwing her backwards whenever they land, with Hannah having to quickly regroup and look for another way in. The Vixen manages to score off the big redhead’s tummy given her height disadvantage, but each time gets blasted with a bigger overhand to the temple. By the bell, Hannah realizes that her only saving grace might be to try and avoid these attacks altogether. But for now, she has to concede this round by a wide margin..

ROUND 5:

A little more success here as Ferguson avoids rather than try and stand and bang with the bigger champion. Her slender body makes her move with a slippery slickness, and she weaves about an incoming combo from Lawley before returning with a torquing overhand to the champ’s face, another hook delivered off the side of the body to give her pause. That’s how you fell Godzilla, folks - you don’t meet it head on unless you’re King Kong or some other kaiju - you hide under its shadow and go to town on its weak spots. In this case, Robyn’s body taking the bulk of the beating, Hannah slipping to the side and under her meaty hooks before bashing away at the breadbasket in spades. Close of the round and Robyn is the one in a retreat, her arms hugging her middle as the punishment begins to add up. Hannah’s biggest round so far, which gives the blonde some glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel!

ROUND 6:

More of the same strategy from Hannah, who’s pushing in and wants to take the fight to the champ. Problem is her stamina, which was severely sapped in the beginning rounds of this contest, especially when Lawley nailed her early in the first. Lawley taking her own time as well, keeping a loose guard over her chest and body, now defending more than actually trying to fell the Vixen. Hannah’s attacks getting intercepted, as a result, the Vixen pouring in a couple of flurries to the body and taking swings at Robyn’s head, but keeps getting frustrated by those meaty arms. Robyn slowly adapts, knows she’s stronger and doesn’t see a need to prove it all the time. Late second minute delivers a stiff blow to Hannah’s chin, which dazes her with a grunt. Hannah looks shocked but brawls right back. BIG mistake, as Robyn takes a hook in return but HAMMERS the poor blonde with a right swing to the cheek, which sends her REELING! Hannah in all of a sudden trouble, getting walked to the ropes by more lefts and rights, big girl taking potshots at her guard, then rocking her to the body and chest, before a final big SWING to the chin SWIVELS the blonde clear off her feet!! DOWN HANNAH GOES, hitting the ground face-first and groaning! It’s a big KNOCKDOWN for a bigger woman, as Robyn Lawley takes her revenge and makes Hannah swallow it cold!!

Official Decision: Robyn Lawley defeats Hannah Ferguson via KO6! Robyn Lawley RETAINS the Unified Welterweight Title!

AFTER:

Confident smile remains on Lawley’s face in the aftermath, striding about the ring looking like a million dollars.

“Time and time again these girls have underestimated me. This division has been dominated by the likes of Upton, Righetti, and Ferguson for far too long. I’d say it’s the beginning of a brand new era,” Lawley says with a grin.

Meanwhile, Hannah’s looking flabbergasted in her corner, having Steve Boyd to remind her that she just lost a championship bout in six rounds - another sweet nail in the coffin to round out a poor 2022.

This may be the year of Robyn Lawley indeed, who extends her winning streak and comes one step closer to beating the record. Who might be next for Godzilla indeed? She’s bested the likes of Brooklyn Decker, Tahnee Atkinson, and now Hannah herself!

Some would say a showdown with Big Red is inevitable, or a redemptive arc with Kate Upton might be on the horizon. But for now, Robyn simply celebrates in the ring, enjoying her moment in the spotlight.
