JOANNA KRUPA VS LAURA VANDERVOORT

Joanna: 43 YO, 5’7 (1.70 m), 18-15-0, 18 KO since 2009,. (Sponsored by Lioness Club of America)

Laura: 37 YO (5’6 (1.68 m), 37-42-2, 27 KO since 2007. (Foxfire Boxing)

Before: Polish-American model Joanna is 43, but she looks great as she meets the press ahead of her coming fight with Laura Vandervoort.

“I am content with my ‘cougar’ status. I feel I still have what it takes to win and I am looking forward to this bout with Laura. She may not be as active as she once was, but she is still a valued name in the FCBA and I look forward to have her on my record”

Laura V replies: “I may not have been as active as some in recent years, but I am no ready to retire. As long as Foxfire will have me I’ll be happy o fight for them.”

Come Fight Night, Joanna is in turquoise bikini with black gloves and boots, turquoise laces. Hair pulled back in battle bun. Laura in blue and white tropical print bikini with blue boots and gloves. Hair in a simple pigtail.

The ring instructions and glove tap go smoothly. Laura and Joanna are in their corners as the bell rings…

R1: Good slid punching from both fighters early. Laura bobbing and weaving especially well while working away at Joanna’s jawline. Joanna trying to find opening for her own punching does land solidly on Laura’s ribcage. Laura ignoring the pain in her ribs as she keeps up the pressure Joanna’s head and Joanna finally has to cut away o get some breathing space. Laura trying to keep up, finally does overtake the elusive Joanna, but then bell sounds to end he roun. Laura wins round wide.

R2: Laura again going for Joanna’s head in new round but Joanna is fighting back with whacking shots to Laura’s head. This turns into a sustained battle of head punching. Soon both fighters looking woozy, but then Joanna goes to the belly with a furious series of rapid-fre hooks. Laura doubled up momentarily, but comes fighting back with body punches of her own Then Joanna swivels Laura’s head with a right to the jaw. Laura staggered by comes back with a right of her own, but Joanna staggered. Laura tries to follow up, but gets into another body battle with Joanna to the end of the round. However Laura V does win the round, though it was close

R3: Joanna Krupa on the attack as the new round commences. She is going for Laura’s head and scores with her initials blows, but then Laura strikes back Laura going after Joanna to the chin, sending tremors through Joanna’s body with these blazing uppercuts. Joanna falls back, rallies and comes back with hooks to the midsection. Laura knocked back on her heels, but then goes after Joanna’s midsection. This becomes another battering body battle the rest of the way that leaves both fighters pale and gasping for air. Frustratingly., all this effort has resulted in a DRAW.

R4: Action resumes as Joanna again seeks to seize the initiative—but this time she opens with another body attack. Laura responding in kind. They whack away with grim determination until Joanna changes course and heaves a suddenly right against Laura’s jaw. Laura staggered and Joanna then goes to the chin with one uppercut after another. Laura stumbling back in distress. Then Joanna plows forward and body punches Laura into ropes. Laura covers her face with her gloves but takes a fearful beating to the body. Only the sound of the bell ends Laura’s ordeal and she looks to be in pain as she peels herself off the ropes to return to her corner. Round wide to Joanna Krupa.

R5: Laura V pulls herself together during break and seeks to rebound with a vigorous attack on Joanna alternating between head and body. Joanna keeps calm under this confusing barrage, using her counters to disrupt Laura’s advance, then as Laura’s offensive seems to fizzle out—Joanna strikes back. Hard, slashing rights and lefts whip into Laura’s jaw and chin. Laura trying to back away, then a right cross crashes into her jaw AND LAURA CRASHES TO THE CANVAS! Laura lands on her side then rolls over on her back. Joanna heads for the neutral corner as the referee starts to count. Laura stirring and makes an effort to rise, but she falls back. She’s got nothing left.

“EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN!...OUT” the referee calls out.

THE WINNER: JOANNA KRUPA DEFEATS LAURA VANDERVOORT KO5!

After: “I didn’t expect it to be easy and it wasn’t,” says Joanna Krupa to the press following her victory. “She punished me but I hung in here until I was able o overcome her at last. I am very encouraged by this win. I think I have proven I am still a credible boxer.”

“I lost. That’s it as far as I am concerned,” is all a clealy disappointed Laura Vandervoort will say post-fight.

Fight a very good win for Joanna Krupa as she certainly looks like she could have a future in the ranks of older veterans. At the same time, a discouraging loss for Laura Vandervoort who showed she’s still got fight but not enough to get her a win tonight. Future could be cloudly for the Foxfire veteran.
