Vanessa Hudgens vs. Miley Cyrus (Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)
BEFORE:
There's never a GOOD time to fight Vanessa Hudgens, as she is, after all, among the elite of the elite in the flyweight division. But, a very BAD time to fight Vanessa Hudgens is in the aftermath of her losing to Michelle Williams. And the absolute WORST time to fight Vanessa Hudgens might well be after a majority decision loss to Williams that not only came down to exactly two points on the cards of two judges but put Williams AHEAD of Hudgens in the all-time series. But, that's the job facing the lovely Miley Cyrus tonight. And, Cyrus doesn't seem at all concerned. "I can beat her, and we both know it. I was beating her the LAST time when the ref stopped it. If he lets the fight continue, I get the 'W'. Well, tonight, I'll make sure the referee can't bail her out."
"Miley," says 'Nessa dismissively, "Is NOT in my LEAGUE. I proved it ONCE, and I'll prove it AGAIN."
ROUND ONE:
No secret that these two have no affection for one another, so, no surprise they get after it early. Blonde and brunette start exchanging right off the bell and, just like the last time, that doesn't go well for 'Nessa. She gets WHACKED with a right hand to the ear and quickly goes into retreat. She's not exactly hurt, but she's clearly a little buzzed and Cyrus knows it. Blonde gets to work, letting the hands go, chasing a retreating 'Nessa around the ring. Famous Hudgens gams working pretty well, but the brunette doesn't want to commit. She's moving, playing for time, looking like trying to shake some cobwebs while Miley scores with both hands, building on her lead as the round goes along. When the bell rings and the fighters head back to their corners, Miley's trying to suppress a smile. She's taken the first wide to lead 10-9.
ROUND TWO:
NOW we're seeing the 'Nessa we're used to seeing. She's bouncin' and misbehavin', circling, jabbing, moving the feet, using those legs, sending the sand flying. Miley is plenty athletic herself and can play this game...so she does. She moves, with, boxes with, and holds her own pretty well. Add it all up and we get a great round for the purists. It's boxing, boxing, and more boxing. Everything's sound, nothing's sloppy, and both fighters play some excellent defense, moving the head and hands, slipping and dipping, playing the geometry beautifully, setting up punches with the jab, using feints, it's great stuff and shows just how good at this both blonde and brunette are. When the bell rings, there's not very much in it, but 'Nessa's done a little more and claimed the points to even things at 19.
ROUND THREE:
Miley renegotiates terms. Now, the blonde isn't boxing with, she's cutting the ring and stepping to. She's getting her box on when she brings 'Nessa to battle, like Mishy, for example, does, she's going AFTER the brunette in a big way, sitting down on punches, forcing Hudgens to cover up, tossing her onto the back foot. For her part, 'Nessa's trying to keep the exchanges short, bailing out of there as soon as she can. And, in open ocean, Hudgens is having the better of things, much like in the last stanza. But, when Miley can cut the ring and force things, well, it's the blonde who's in control. She's landing heavy shot, making the brunette uncomfortable, suppressing much of her offense. And, Cyrus is getting too much of what she wants for Vanessa to stay in the round. At the bell, Miley's taken it wide again and pulled into a 29-28 lead.
ROUND FOUR:
'Nessa adjusts. She's moving more and moving better. She's bouncing, circling, jabbing, reversing, giving ground, bouncing forward, doing everything she can to stay on open canvas and prevent Miley from forcing things in close quarters. And, to a point, it works. Now, it's both fighters getting some, but not enough of what they want, unlike the last round, when Cyrus was mostly dictating terms. Result is a closely-fought round, much like we saw in the second, as Vanessa piles up points on the move, snapping that jab into Miley's face and following on, at times, with sharp combinations, while Cyrus counters when she can cut the ring, working head, body, head, scoring with both hands. When the bell rings, it's a near thing, but it's 'Nessa who takes it close to even things again, this time at 38.
ROUND FIVE:
More of the same. Vanessa on the move, Miley trying to bring her to battle. And, again, each girl is getting some, but not enough of what she wants. Result? Another closely-fought round with neither fighter able to gain any sort of an advan...BOOM! Right hand, VANESSA and MILEY IS HURT! Hudgens times one perfectly! As Miley steps to, 'Nessa snaps a left jab and Miley moves her head right to avoid it, right into the path of Hudgens' follow on right cross! And the brunette is ALL IN! She's winging away with both hands now, backing Cyrus across the sand, and, just before she gets to the ropes, BLODNE GIRL DOWN! A three-punch combination from Hudgens and Miley is blow to her back. 'Nessa PRANCING to a neutral corner as Miley, eyes closed, arms spread, lays unmoving. Ref's counting, but it's all a formality. Cyrus is unconscious in the sand and it's OVER and your winner by KO5 is Vanessa Hudgens!
AFTER:
'Nessa actually KICKS SAND at an insensate Miley on her way back to her corner. Oh, she makes it LOOK natural, bouncing by on the balls of her feet, but there's no doubt what she did. And, if she's sorry about it, well. You can't tell in the post-fight. "It's like I said," 'Nessa says with a smirk. "She's not in my league. She got lucky and won the title one time and had a cup of coffee with it. I'm a five-time champion, a Hall of Famer, with TWELVE successful title defenses. NOT. IN. MY. LEAGUE. Period."
