LUCY HALE VS JOEY KING
Results: Lookout Writing: Archer
Lucy: 33 YO, 5’2 (1.57 m), 36-40-0, 35 KO since 2010, Pretty Little Punchers
Joey: 23 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m) 10-8-0, 10 KO since 2018 (Global Boxing Syndicate?)
Before: Both fighters seem tense in the pre-the interviews. Lucy defensive when asked about her current 5-fight bout losing streak.
“I am looking ahead, not behind, there is no point in dwelling on fights that are over. I am concentrating on THIS fight. Besides, it’s not like Joey King is on a winning streak.”
Ms. King not appreciating Lucy bringing up her consecutive losses: “OK so I lost to Milly Brown and Emma Roberts—as a matter of fact Hale lost to Emma, too. Guess we got that in common, eh Lucy.”
(Ms King is reportedly in talks to sign with Global Boxing Syndicate, but declined to discuss the matter “at this time”)
Lucy gives the younger woman a frosty look: “If Roberts can beat you, so can I.”
“Funny, I was going to say the same,” Joey replies mockingly.
“Keep talking, I am going to enjoy shutting your mouth,” Lucy snaps.
“You won’t be enjoying anything about this fight by the time I am done with you,” Joey boldly declared.
“Oh I will, but you won’t. See you then!” Lucy said and walked away leaving Joey looking annoyed at not being able to get in the last word.
This left a simmering hostility that was nearing grudge match fever and was not diminished as the two made their ring entrances. Joey is in a blue bikini adorned with tiny multi colored fruits. Matching blue gloves and boots. Hair in a perky ponytail. Lucy in leopard print bikini with black gloves and boots, dark yellow laces. Bobbed hair is loose but wetted down. Two eye each other with hostility as the referee hurries through the instructions. Sharp smacking of gloves and the two go to their corners. The bell rings.
R1: Lucy pummeling Joey early and often as the fight gets started. Joey hit hard, now tries circle as she tries to counter. However Lucy is moving with the young boxer and she keeps the hurt coming. Joey looks uncertain in dealing with the veteran and Lucy happy to take advantage of her confusion. Three straight right/left combos to the chin and Lucy has Joey falling against the ropes. Joey does have presence of mind to bury her face in her gloves but she’s getting waxed to the body. Lucy doing a thorough job of smiting Joey from rack to ribs to belly and back again. Joey looking winded after the bell ends her ordeal and Lucy has the satisfaction of winning the first round.
R2: Joey King showing resilience in the new round as she comes out and stuns Lucy Hale with a blistering attack to the veterans jaw and chin. Lucy’s head knocked from side to side and up and down by the blows. Lucy staggering as she gets her mitts up around her head and tries to regroup. Joey goes right back at the body, just pounding the Hale abs with concentrated fury until she’s Lucy all doubled up. Lucy managing to get some counters into Joey to make the young fighter a bit more cautious as the round progresses. However averting a shutout is the best Lucy can do this round as she is dominated by Joey to the bell. Round goes easily to Joey.
R3: Lucy came out swinging as the 3rd Round commenced. Her opening salvo went into Joey’s midsection and then she struck at Joey to the chin. Joey was managed to yank her head back so that Lucy’s uppercut was a glancing blow. Joey then fired a counter right had that caught Lucy squarely in the right eye. Lucy recoiled in shock and pain. Joey then pumped machine gun hooks into Lucy’s belly and Lucy’s knees began to buckle. Smoothly Joey added two quick uppercuts to the chin AND LUCY HALE WAS ON HER KNEES. Lucy was coughing and retching from those belly punches and she went to all fours trying to recover. Meanwhile Joey had trotted to neutral corner and was watching with interest. The referee was counting and then Lucy began to struggle it. It seemed to take a great effort but she made it up in to break the count at “NINE!” The referee soon was waving Joey back in, but Lucy was prudently in a tight defense that gave Joey no further opportunities. However the knockdown had won the round for Joey King and her fans had been thrilled with her last 2 rounds.
R4: Lucy looked cautious as he came out for Round 4 , she had her gloves up high and was hunched down as if expecting a fresh offensive from Joey King. Which was exactly what Joey did as soon as she can get within punching range. Joey was swinging at Lucy’s head, though Lucy’s high guard deflected most of these, but then she unleashed a furious attack to the body. She tried to crowd in close against Lucy, pushing short right and left shots into Lucy’s body. Lucy was answering with hooks of her own, they seemed locked in a body busting battle until Lucy suddenly stepped back. This caused Joey to lurch forward—AND RIGHT INTO A BLISTERING RIGHT UPPERCUT TO THE CHIN FRM LUCY!. The blow seemed to lift Joey off her feet as she stumbled back flailing wildly to regain her balance and suddenly she was wide open to Lucy. Lucy SMASHED rights and lefts as fast as she could into Joey’s jaw. Joey stumbled backwards out of control an she hit the ropes, caromed off and into a right/left combo to the chin. Joey seemed to freeze for a moment AND THEN TOPPLED ONTO HER FACE! Lucy hustled to the neutral corner and watched as a stricken Joey tried to push herself up, but she fell back to the canvas at each try. The referee’s ount mounted remorselessly.
“EIGHT!...NINE!..TEN..YOU ARE OUT!”
THE WINNER: LUCY HALE DEFEATS JOEY KING KO4!
After: Lucy rejoices with teammates Brec Bassinger, Shay Mitchell and Troian Bellisario as her losing streak is finally over. As soon as she sees Joey King has been revived, Lucy head for the opposing corner to scoop up Joey for a vengeful Walk of Shame.
Shocking end for what had looked like a fight that was headed in Joey King’s direction. Instead, Joey seemed to get a little too anxious for the win and fell into a veteran trap. Win no doubt a great relief for Lucy and the PLP. 5 loses in a row are never any good, but that could finally be in the past. Of course, Lucy’s next few fights will tell if she is truly back on track. Loss is likely a bitter one for Joey King, but if it becomes a learning experience it will help her in the long run. Joey now has a 3-fight losing streak and breaking that is now the first order of business for the talented young fighter. Again, her next few fights, are crucial to making sure Joey is back on track. |
