Seventeen straight and the woman they call “Godzilla” has been roaring (figuratively speaking, Robyn Lawley not one known for smack talk). Now she takes on the challenge of Italians Boxing Better’s welterweight contender and former JMDD champion Lorella Boccia.

Some whispers that this fight ought not be sanctioned! Boccia has campaigned with great success at welterweight with wins over top contenders like McKinney and Atkinson and an outstanding 18-4 record overall BUT … she is smallish by welterweight standards at barely 5’8” and weighing in at about 135 … AND she will be facing a woman who stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and is rumored to be coming in “big”- at around 180 pounds!

Fight Night

International flavor of this bout played up with Lawley wearing Royal blue bikini, gloves and boots with Aussie flag on one bra cup; Boccia wearing tricolors - green white and red of Italy. Sceej fighter seconded by Scrubby McGee and Jenny “Mac the Knife” McCarthy, IBB corner worked by flyweight sensation Cree Ciccino and welter Alice Sabatini (who knows a little about the Thunder from Down Under, having fought her last year). Some ringsiders shaking heads in disbelief at stark size difference between fighters. Front Street occupying a significant part of ringside, Cassie Scerbo vocal in support of fellow Italian Boccia. “Hey Uncle Wiz, heard you can get 12-1 on my paisan? I’m all in on that!” Grand Wizard, “Yeah … I heard that too. They are also offering 12-1 that the tide don’t come in tomorrow! Let's just watch the fight, princess.”

During referee’s instructions, Ciccino snickers “Ehi, guarda la vecchia puttana!”, drawing giggles from Sabatini and even from the focused Boccia. McCarthy to referee, “I demand that they speak American!” then consulting cell phone “Siri, what does a ‘guarda’ mean in Italian?”

Round 1 - Brunette out of corner up and on her toes, licking out with jab and changing directions with dancer’s grace. Big Robyn flat-footed by contrast, plodding, stalking, guard high and right hand cocked. Lorealla, quick-handed, able to score occasionally with jab, even though giving up reach. Scrubby encouraging big girl to cut off the ring (Jenny is still furiously consulting her cell phone trying to figure out what Cicciono said five minutes ago). Robyn trying to get her lead foot outside of Boccia to shrink ring. She jabs with the Italian - both jabs picked off by the opponent’s guard. Big overhand right by champion, deftly slipped by flashy challenger. Slow first round but IBB fighter takes it with her jab and that ever elusive “ring generalship”.

Round 2 - Lawley struggling to figure out how to get to fleet footed Boccia - McCarthy struggling to figure out how to have Siri translate Cree Ciccino in ring comments! “Vecchia puttana - uhm - I think it’s some kind of vegetable spaghetti?”. In ring, dancer still dancing - Lorella side to side around perimeter behind her jab, Robyn pivoting, looking to line up power right hand but unable to get off. Late in round, Lawley guesses right and lands thumping right hand to top of Boccia scalp, follows up with thudding left to shoulder. Not clean shots but sheer impact rattling the smaller woman. IBB corner calls for clinch and brunette looks to wrap up the honey blonde but she gets her first experience with Lawley’s massive strength as she is ragdolled into corner. Robyn storms on her but Lorella able to slip out. Late rally puts a close round in champion’s tally.

Round 3 - Opens with Jenny Mac asking her phone “Siri - how do you say veggie lasagna in Italian?”. Boccia a little cautious out of the corner, perhaps spooked by demonstration of the Aussie’s raw power at the end of the last round. Dukes up, she works the perimeter, jabbin. Lawley turning on her heel and jabbing with - conceding a little hand speed but making up for it with much greater reach. Boccia begins to bob and weave, corner telling her to fight INSIDE to neutralize reach, but that involves clinching and wrestling with “Godzilla” and the ONLY fighter whose ever had success with that particular tactic was named Kong! As women wrestling clinch, Lawley twists hips and scores uppercut with left hand that rattles Italian fighter. Back and forth inside, both girls moving hand but Lawley with the heavier hands and she takes the round

Round 4 and 5 - Puzzled J-Mac “Siri, what is ‘vacation luau’ in Italian?” Rough handling of Lorella last round has pricked Italian pride - and unleashed Italian temper and fury! Lawley expecting caution - stunned when Boccia right at her and lands big lead right hand to the temple! Lawley firing back with left and right but Boccia slips left, right only a cuffing shot and double her left hook to the flank and jaw - she is backing the big girl up and the crowd is going wild! Lawley with a fighting retreat - taking a toll as Boccia marches on her - the big girl has learned a lot under the tutelage of Scrubby McGee. Lawley drops the fourth round and in the fifth, Lawley herself is dropped! Leaping left hook from scrappy Italian and tiiiiiiiiiiimber - the champ is DOWN! Robyn Lawley knocked flat on her back … IBB corner going wild … Boccia Goading “Get up … get up…” - somewhat more colorfully, Jenny McCarthy screaming, “GET UP, YOU BIG DUMMY!!!” Lawley wide eyed, long arms and legs flailing like a newborn foal, barely beats the count at “9” and here comes Lorella Boccia!!! Brunette charging across the ring, hands flying wildly, almost amateurish windmilling but some of the shots are finding homes as Lawley covers on ropes for what seems an eternity til bell rings. Lorella chesting up with big girl, asking if she wants more and forcing eye contact - earns a two-handed shove from the massive champion - and the referee has to get between them! IBB corner girls ahlf into ring and in response Big Bad Gena Lee Nolin, seated ringside stands up. Jenny McCarthy still feverishly consulting Siri to translate her tortured pronunciation of “vecchia puttana” with little concern for her duties as a second.

Round 6 - Big girl just looking to establish those still wobbly legs under her, backpedaling slow, trading canvas for time and using that long jab to make Boccia rethink her wild rushes. IBB corner can just taste that welterweight title and urging Lorella to press action. Brunette doing all she can to press action - bobbing, eaving, working to get inside, buffeting Aussie midriff with lefts and rights and occasional left hoot to the head - but for most of the round held at distance by that telephone pole jab. Robyn able to gather herself and probably steals the round with that long spearing jab.

Round 7 - Finally - a resolution! Not of the fight … of the translation quest! Jenny Mac spots her favorite enemy Cassie Scerbo ringside and calls, “Hey Scabbo, you’re Italian - what's a vecchia puttana’?” Cassie grins broadly, “You mean to tell me you’ve never heard that before?It means ‘old whore’, Blondie!”.

Jenny’s mind takes a second to process this information (OK - it was closer to 40 seconds to process this information but whose counting) - then face morphs from shock to anger to rage! Of course, she STILL has things garbled as she tells Lawley that the Italians called HER - meaning the champion - an ‘old whore’ (never even CONSIDERING that that particular insult just might have been intended for a brash blonde pushing fifty?) Wizard at ringside “She thinks they were referring to Lawley with that line? Complete and total lack of self awareness - you CANNOT make this up!”

For his part, Scrubby growling in champ’s ear, “Now lissen Robby … dere’s a time to

back up … fight defensive … DIS AIN’T IT!!! When she comes at ya - not one step back, understand me, not one step back! You make HER back up and you’’ll break her damn spirit!”

Just as Robyn is about to start round, mac rushes up to ring apron ranting “Old whore … old whore … that b*tch called you an OLD WHORE and like … you’re not even that old!!!!” - Lawley with big eye roll - she has accepted that NO ONE understands J-Mac most of the time - and out to defend her title!

Lorella moving side to side, does not want to give a target for that long jab. Strikes and scores with a lead right hand, then backs off - corner calling for her to follow up! Brunette with a one two combo - straight left, then straight right - the big girl eats them both and holds canvas. Lorellal feints jab and dips to her left and Lawley times her with an uppercut!!! Rings Italian’s bell and has her stumbling back, blinking - legs disorganized - and here comes Godzilla! Left hook to the ribs bends brunette over, saggin like second hand couch, Jab jab then straight right hand rocks the challenger … and Boccia comes right back ithe a right hand of her own! Challenger is dead game! Lawley extend arms to grapple, forcing smaller woman to ropes, and begins blunt bludgeoning attack, methodically with both hands. Left and right - smacking ribs, shoulders cheek, temple. No one shot takes the tough challenger out but at last she drops to all fours. Referee pushes champion back as Lawley is yelling for Lorella to “stay down”. At “seven” Boccia tries to get to her feet but falls onto her hip and the count passes her by.

Winner by knockout in the 7th round and STILL welterweight champion - Rockin’ Robyn Lawley.

Post fight interview: Lawley complimentary, “She’s very tough! Game fighter. Came here to try to take this blet but I was not having it. My next fight? Well, I think …”

And the interview is cut short by in ring incident as Jenny McCarthy is lunging at smiling Cree Ciccino, barely restrained by security. Wizard to Scerbo, “What the hell happened up there?” Cassie Scerbo, “Beats me, Cree just asked if the ‘vecchia puttana’ would autograph her centerfold for her? Hey Uncle Wiz, did you know ol’ Blondie was the Playmate of the Year? It’s true! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 1994! Wow … thats like almost thirty years? How time flies!”

And security ow occupied with keeping Miss McCarthy away from Miss Scerbo! Scrubby Mcgee leading the champion back to the locker room, “C’mon ‘Stretch’ … ya don’t need to be exposed to dis!”
