Nina Agdal vs Taylor Hill (Lightweight Title)

Nina:
(30, 5’9, 121, 47:18 FCBA, VIXENs)

Taylor:
(26, 5’10, 36:5 FCBA, Front Street Gym)

BEFORE:
Miss Hill’s on a warpath this entire year, going through ladies like Hayley Atwell, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Emily DiDonato like a Front Street knife through butter. To hear the Lightweight challenger tell it, however, this rubber match with Nina Agdal:

“I’m never going to forget the way Nina treated me in our first fight. Mounting my back, tugging on my hair--it was nothing short of unprofessional,” Hill says first with a confident nod. “Then, I got her back three years later. I said the score was settled back then, but I never turn down a challenge. So here we are.”

“Here we are indeed,” Nina responds from across the table. “You know what, Taylor, I haven’t forgotten how you fell to my fists in under 3 rounds back when we first met. “And you might have beaten me in our second bout, but the score is FAR from settled.”

Ladies sizing each other up one more time on stage moments later, already stripped to their skivvies and gloves: Nina in a baby blue bikini, showing off her curves and white leather; Taylor’s in a violet bikini, red gloves to top off the look.

Referee holds the Lightweight belt up high for the crowds, then hands it off to the fight officials. There’s the sound of the bell and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Lightweight action! This here’s for the Unified Lightweight Title!

ROUND 1:
Plenty of good, well-tuned boxing action to start. These two ladies are professionals, and acting like it. Nina and Taylor constantly circling, poking and prodigy at the head, looking for early openings. Nina, though being the champ, arguably has more to prove after losing their last bout, and so she skirts in with a little more aggression at times, slamming punches into Hill’s body but mostly going back high to hammer in shots to the guard. Hill herself has improved so much since her debut years ago, now becoming one of the most technical and defensive fighters in the Lightweight league. She easily deals with Nina’s attacks, blocking with her arms before catching the champ back with shots off the chin and cheek. By the end, both ladies have landed their fair share of damage, and this balance of points will be indicative of both their skills going forward.

ROUND 2:
Taylor’s taking it slow and steady, arms up and near her chest, only firing away combos when Nina gets too near. And Nina gets near as much as she can! The Danish blonde constantly pressures her American counterpart, tagging her off the tummy with a low swing before driving another right cross into the arms. Hill’s defenses can only last so long, and with the brunette in retreat for now, she’s having trouble landing her own counterattacks on Nina’s face, with the Vixen also coming forward with excellent footwork and head movement. End of the round and Nina knows she’s done way more to secure this second round. But the night’s still young indeed!

ROUND 3:
More of the same strategy from Agdal, who pressures the challenger backwards, trying to trap her in a corner. But Hill’s too smart for that, anticipating another of Agdal’s swings to her head and weaving easily backwards to avoid, before cuffing the champ across her chin with a hook of her own, then catching the Danish model with a sunk-in glove to the midsection that bowls her over with a grunt. Nina’s suddenly getting pounded upon, clinching up and then bending low to avoid the follow-up barrage that definitely arrives from Hill. Front Street girl takes the fight to the champ, steady step-ins and hammering at her undercarriage, then swinging at her arms to try and break her guard. But Nina manages to slip away moments later, having realized the tactical error she’s made in this round. Taylor breathes hard when the bell rings, but she’s taken in by a closer margin, thereby throwing the rest of this fight open.

ROUND 4:
Nina keeps up the pressure, however, learning her mistakes from last round and now poking at the challenger’s holes from afar. This bears some fruit, with Hill’s head movement getting tested as she takes several shots to her cheek and off the forehead before she can fully react, with Agdal’s precision and speed showcasing her championship skills. Hill, however, chooses to batter back in the second half, eating a jab combo to her face but then swiftly knocking the blonde’s chin to the side with a hook of her own, dazing the Vixen. Two women get into a close quarters back-and-forth brawl in the remaining seconds, standing their ground and rocking the other across the face or dipping fists low to hound the ribs. Both fighters look winded by the bell, though by our predictions, Nina might have edged her rival out by a bit.

ROUND 5:
Taylor springs forward with surprising speed in the first minute, holding back her reserves till now, and suddenly making Nina pay for her earlier advances. Agdal lets out a yelp and grunt as the punches come sailing in at her head, Taylor’s crisp jabbing and constant attacks forcing her to cover up and scramble down the ropes. Hill’s showing off her moves now, mixing up low swings to the body and then following up with overhand blasts off the head, at one moment sending Nina barreling into the ropes. But before the brunette can rush in to finish her off, Nina’s off to the side, slipping away from danger and then back to jabbing at her head in turn. Nina takes some knocks through till the end, but at least she manages to survive the counterattack.

ROUND 6:
Hill’s corner urging their girl to push inwards, regardless, now especially with the champion on the backpedal. Taylor takes great strides forward, jabbing high with her left hand before slipping that crushing right cross down the middle, catching Nina on the sternum early before another such combo ending with a snap of the head back. Nina’s struggling to keep up, taking damage and getting more and more disorientated if she doesn’t find her bearings soon enough. The Vixen however lands a lucky shot off the face in one of these protracted melees, deftly dodging to one side as Taylor’s overhand sails harmlessly past her shoulder. The champ rams a fist of her own into the side of Taylor’s head, knocking her senseless, before another hook catches her clean to the middle of her nose, blasting her backwards. Hill looks dazed as she goes on the retreat instead, covering up and shaking her head. Nina, however, has no gas left to give chase, and has to be content with a slight glimmer of hope at the end of the sixth.

ROUND 7:
Taylor’s holding back in the early seventh, keeping her distance and both arms close to her chest. She fends off a flurry with her arms and slower movement backwards, but then has some trouble when Nina presses in with a feint to her head up high, then catching the brunette off her side with a hook. Vixen smells blood and begins to walk her opponent down, banging away at Hill’s arms and helping herself to large carvings of tummy in the interim, before ending each combo with a strapping cross to the mid-section. Hill’s in trouble by the third minute, getting her upper torso blasted to the side by a hook-uppercut combo that almost smashes her arms apart. The Front Street fighter attempts to duck under and surge in for a clinch, but Agdal bullies her into the ropes, rocking her head upwards with another uppercut to send her stumbling!! The champ lets more of her punches rip, but they aren’t needed! Taylor looks glassy-eyed as she COLLAPSES down to the canvas by the ropes, looking absolutely shaken and panting hard!! The referee ushers the champ to the neutral corner, and begins the count! Hill’s spurred on by the chanting of the crowd to keep going, but though her grip on the middle rope is firm, her legs and rest of her body aren’t cooperating. She hauls herself up to her knees and attempts a last-second push back up, but doesn’t make it quite in time! The referee hits the count of 10 and has no choice but the WAVE OFF the rest of this championship fight! It’s OVER!

Official Decision: Nina Agdal defeats Taylor Hill via KO7! Nina Agdal is STILL the Unified Lightweight champion!

AFTER:
Yet another landmark victory for the Lightweight champion, who continues to defy the naysayers and their attempts to paint her as an unlikely and weak title holder. Nina celebrates with a small leap in the air, smiling wide and even mounting the lower rope to beat her chest towards the crowd.

“Hill’s one of those girls I’ve always respected. She’s been nothing but respectful during our past fights, so I’m going to be nice and respectful as well,” Nina speaks to reporters in the post-match. “She’s going to be champion one day. But not on my watch.”

Hill looks mostly disappointed in the post-fight, having almost pushed herself to beat the count and who knows? The Front Street challenger might have managed to dig deep and push all the way across the finish line if she’d been a second faster.

“I’m disappointed, of course, but know that there will also be a next time,” Hill tells reporters by ring-side as well. “Nina’s proven herself to be one of the best in the division, and other girls are only kidding themselves if they continue to underestimate her. As for me, I’ll be back one day, with the belt strapped around my waist.”
