Amy Willerton vs Sabrina Lynn

(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Amy Willerton
(30, 5’9, 6-3 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Sabrina Lynn
(24, 5’10, 9-8 FCBA, Revolution Boxing)

Pre-Fight: League of Mighty Women’s Amy Willerton will be facing Revolution Boxing’s Sabrina Lynn up next as both fighters will try to turn their fortunes this year. Both Amy and Sabrina are in a similar position as their performances dropped significantly this year after tasting success in the previous one. Amy switched over to the FCBA from BBU last year as part of LMW’s resident fighter program and her performance with six wins and one loss earned her a permanent spot in the roster, but she is yet to earn a victory since she signed that full-time contract with her stable. She will be looking to get her first win this year. Similarly, Sabrina made her boxing debut last year and climbed the rankings quickly with impressive victories. That performance led to big fights this year, including a title shot, but she failed to step up to the challenge so far. So, she will be looking to change that narrative as well.

Amy is first up to address the audience at the pre-fight press conference. “I made a bad start to this year and it is unfortunate that it happened after I signed a new contract, but it is not true that I have been slacking since then. I just took a break from competition to train hard and to work on the weaknesses of my game to improve as a boxer. Now I’m ready to get back in that ring and show everyone how much I improved!” She looks confident as she finishes her remarks.

Sabrina doesn’t seem interested in what her opponent has to say as she seems to be angry about something. “I don’t see how people consider us to be in a similar situation. I fought against the best fighters this year and came close to winning titles. I’m still young and destined for greatness, while she is only getting old and forgotten. I will go on another winning streak starting with this fight!” She seems very self-confident and dismissive of her opponent’s chances in this one.

Fight night comes and Amy enters the arena first with her coach Ali Landry accompanying her. She waves to the crowd cheering for her as she walks down the aisle looking focused. She starts going through her warmup routine as soon as she enters the ring.

She is wearing a pink sports bra with white trim, matching trunks, white gloves and boots, while her hair is tied into a loose ponytail.

Sabrina makes her entrance next as she is accompanied by her coach. She waves and blows kisses to the fans that are loudly cheering for her. She enters the ring with a smile on her face and she pumps her fists as she walks past her opponent without looking at her.

She is wearing a black sports bra with red trim, matching trunks, red gloves and boots, while her hair is also tied into a ponytail.

Both fighters come to the center of the ring to listen to the final instructions of the referee and then they touch gloves with Sabrina giving a harder bump causing Amy to frown. They step back to their respective corners and we are now ready for 10 rounds of welterweight action!

Fight: Round 1: The bell rings and the fighters meet in the center of the ring, ready to throw punches. Sabrina is the one on the attack early on as Amy seems to be taking a more defensive approach. It is a new look for Amy and it is curious considering that her defense was considered to be the weakest aspect of her game. She might be showcasing her recent development in this aspect though as she seems to be dealing comfortably with Sabrina’s punches so far with a combination of using her head movement and guard to avoid them. She is also landing some crisp counterpunches in the meantime, but they don’t seem to be deterring Sabrina just yet. The American model keeps pushing the pace and continues to throw a significant amount of punches, but only a few of them land clearly.

As we enter the last minute of the round, Sabrina starts to slow down a little, but it is enough for Amy to switch gears and to go on the offensive. As Sabrina steps in to throw more punches, Amy gives her a push, which causes the American model to lose her balance and drop her guard. Amy quickly takes advantage of the situation with a one-two combo followed by a hook to the jaw. Sabrina dodges the second hook and starts backing away before things get dire. She is forced to defend for the rest of the round. As a result, even though Sabrina controlled the action for most of the round, Amy ended up being more effective and narrowly edges her opponent to win the round on points.

Round 2: Sabrina looks determined to turn things around in this round as she stays on offense, while Amy sticks with what worked for her in the opening round as she stays on defense. Sabrina seems to be depending on the volume of her punches again as she tries to get through her opponent’s guard, while the Brit is looking for an opening to punish her opponent with some counterpunches. It is clear that Amy’s defense improved significantly, but there is still room for improvement as Sabrina’s high work rate finally starts to pay off as she finds cracks in her opponent’s defense to land some clean and stiff straights.

Sabrina’s confidence gets boosted as she starts landing some good punches, while Amy starts to reconsider her defensive approach and it leads to some longer exchanges in the final minute of the round. Sabrina hits a one-two combo up top, while Amy answers with a jab on the nose and then a hook to the ribs. Amy lands a few shovel hooks as Sabrina scores with a hook to the jaw. They exchange a couple more short combinations and then they both go for a clinch, which takes us to the end of the round. There was no clear winner to that final exchange, but Sabrina’s effort throughout the round gave her a narrow win to tie things up on the scorecard.

Round 3: The action starts right away in the third round as both fighters are on the attack now. They meet at the center of the ring to stand and trade punches. It looks like neither of them seems to be caring about defense right now as they just swing at each other. It is going back and forth between the two as Amy lands a good hook followed by a jab-straight combo from Sabrina, then Amy goes to the body for a lead uppercut to the abs and Sabrina answers with a hook to the ribs. As the first minute is over, this frantic pace finally takes its toll on both fighters as they both go for a clinch. Before the referee can separate them, the American model gives her opponent a shoulder bump to create some space and then land two shovel hooks to the midsection. She then pushes Amy away and scores with a hook to the jaw that forces the Brit to retreat.

The rest of the round goes on with Sabrina chasing her opponent and landing a few good shots before the chase begins again. The first minute of the round was close, but then Sabrina dominated the rest of the action to win it easily. It was also more of a brawl, which benefited Sabrina with her age and height advantage, while it is a style that Amy was trying to move away from lately. So during the break, Ali reminds her fighter of that and tells her to calm down, go back to the game plan and be patient.

Round 4: The pace slows down in the fourth round as Amy listens to her coach and goes back to a defensive, patient style. Sabrina is still on the attack, but she cannot force her opponent to wild exchanges like she did last round. She is still landing some clean punches, but Amy answers with counterpunches and then steps back to avoid having longer exchanges. As the round progresses, the Brit starts cutting angles and getting inside to land a few shots to the body before going back to circling the ring, which also starts slowing her opponent down. It ends up being not as exciting of a round as the previous one, but it is exactly what Amy needed as she imposed her game plan once again and won the round to even things up on the scorecard.

Round 5: Amy sticks with her game plan as it worked well for her last round, so she stays patient while Sabrina not only stays on the attack, but she is taking more and more risks as the round progresses. The American model is taking some wild swings and while they can do some damage if they connect, they are also leaving her vulnerable for counterattacks. Amy hasn’t taken advantage of it yet, but she is defending them easily and seems to be waiting for the right time to strike back. That time comes as we get close to the halfway point of the round. Sabrina throws a wild hook, but Amy ducks in time to land a couple of hooks to the ribs. She then lands a lead uppercut to the midsection and another uppercut to the chin. Sabrina is having trouble keeping her guard up as Amy continues her assault with a double jab-straight combo that forces her opponent to take a step back and then the Brit steps in with a huge hook to the chin and that’s it! Sabrina spins and drops down to the mat face first! Amy goes over to the neutral corner, but she doesn’t have to wait long for the result because the referee takes one look at the out cold Sabrina and calls the fight! It is over!

Official Result: Winner via KO in round 5, Amy Willerton!

Post-Fight: Amy lets out a roar as she raises her fists in victory. She seems to be relieved that she finally got the win that has been eluding her this year. Ali enters the ring and gives her fighter a hug as she congratulates her. On the other side of the ring, Sabrina needs a couple of minutes to recover, but she eventually gets up to her feet and gets the thumbs up from the medical team so that she can leave the ring on her own accord.

After getting her hand raised by the referee, Amy takes the microphone to address the crowd. “I’m so happy to be back with a win! I would like to thank my coaches for their support as we worked very hard in the past few months and it paid off in the end! Sabrina is a good fighter too, but I was just better today.” With that she waves and blows kisses to the fans as she leaves the ring with her coach.

It is an important win for Amy, not just for the result, but also for the way she fought. We knew that she had the heart and the punching power, but her technical skill and defense were weak points, which she seems to have improved during the break that she took. As for Sabrina, this loss must have hurt more than her previous losses this year as these types of fights are the ones she needs to be winning if she wants to stay at the top level of the welterweight division.
