Jaclyn Smith vs Pamela Sue Martin

Pamela is in a blue bikini with blue gloves and blue boots.

This bout was a huge deal in the year 1977 as both boxers were the stars of Charlie’s Angels and The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Mysteries. The two did not have any scenes in the second season opening episodes of Mysteries but the bout takes place after those episodes were shot. It was built up as the battle of the detectives to promote the two shows and forth coming episodes with Jaclyn as a guest star-cameo. The bout was held at an arena in Hollywood and it is packed.

Pamela surprised fight fans by being the aggressive boxer as she widely won two of the first three rounds. Her hooks and straights helped her move Jaclyn back during those rounds. The second round was a close one with Smith taking the win thanks to her counter punches and the fierce fire fights that seemed to go her way according to the judges.

The next two rounds saw Jaclyn comes out first and come out on top during the in close fighting that happened in those two rounds. Smith also went to work on Martin’s face with some jabs, crosses and some very showing uppercuts. Pamela found herself on the receiving ends of nasty leather as she was forced to clinch up during the two rounds.

Heading to the sixth round, Jaclyn now seemed to be in control of this bout. She now had a slight lead on the scorecards as well.

The bell rang beginning the sixth round as both boxers came out in answer to it. Smith came out looking to do more glove work on Martin’s face but Pamela was able to slip or counter those shots with some body shots of her own. Fight fans were up and cheering now as these two gave them more fire fight action. Pamela landed a nice right hook and left cross to Jaclyn’s body and then face as the round continued. A big right uppercut had Smith now backed to the far ropes as it clipped her chin. Martin now took control and went to cross Smith’s face over and over. She mixed in a couple uppercuts and SMITH GOES DOWN! Pamela was soon standing in a neutral corner watching the fallen Smith and smiling wide. Jaclyn had rolled over by the time the count had reached 7 but did not get up from her back as 10 came and went over her.

Martin then came out of the corner to tremendous cheers as she had won the bout which was a surprise to fight fans who has thought Smith would be the favorite. She soon had her arm raised in the center of the ring as her victory was announced by a knockout no less.
